RE: The onngoing discussion of “reward vs. random” approach to crucible loot drops; many people feel better players should get the better loot.
Just to point out a slightly different point here:
If the best loot goes to the best players then the gap between best and worst only gets larger. If the best loot is randomly distributed amongst good and bad then the best players evolve their "equipment power" at a slower rate than the alternative AND the worse players sometimes gain something powerful enough to make them more competitive with the better players.
So under the current system then, the more skilled players (“better players”) are forced to fight in a system where the competition level is kept artificially high because less skilled players (worse players) are augmenting their low skill with powerful equipment; similarly, this non-capitalist approach to loot is preventing the best players from going from modest skill-advantage with identical weapons to domination advantage with skill-advantage plus equipment advantage.
The result then, under the current system, is to continually make the matches competitive and challenging for better players; what’s so bad about that?
I understand that we have an engrained interest in seeing a strong positive correlation between skill and reward, but are we really playing PvP for the reward? Or are we playing PvP for the thrill of the competition?
My personal suggestion is this:
- Keep the same reward system and enjoy the highly competitive level
- Add a materials drop for the top 3 players on either team. That way the better players will level up what equipment they do receive faster; HAVE A SENSE OF REWARD; and be able to reduce the amount of time spent mindlessly farming. The less skilled players will have to do a whole lot of irritating farming which means they will have to put in much more effort into the game if they want to keep up with the skilled players. I also think that the top player deserves something Ascendent.

Edited by KoumuS: 6/2/2015 7:48:50 PMYes, thank you for creating this awesome thread. It's old but extremely relevant to this day, unfortunately. While I do believe that rewarding new players with weapons and armor is a great thing, letting the highest scoring ones to their own luck is just unfair. And it's not rare (at least for me) to see a scene like this one. http://i.imgur.com/3oHEheF.png Now, I'm not angry at Bungie for taking the decision to reward players randomly. Again, it's a nice choice and I personally have already received a legendary weapon (not a good one, but still) at a specific match where I scored the least. But please, give the top 3 players (or top 1, 2, I don't know) a higher chance of getting anything at all. I just don't want to work my ass off during a great match only to find out later that my hard work was not rewarded.

So if I get nothing with a high KD and someone below 1 gets a red death, does that mean I am 2op5u?

If the the bad players get better gear then there is no incentive to do good. It's called socialism. And it brings everyone down to the bad players level rather than lift bad players to the good level
-
I'm sorry, but the idea of the lowest players getting the best gear is wrong. I understand what you are saying about the skill gap, but this isn't an "everyone gets a trophy" system. If you can't score well in crucible, then its not your thing. Run tiger strikes instead or run with a team to increase your effectiveness. Doing well should equal a reward. That reward should be better than the reward for those who do poorly,

I feel it's one sided in that have been playing from day 1 an never got a gjalliarhorn.

Edited by Speck311: 5/7/2015 10:37:18 PMBad players are already kept good by kill trading timers like supers and colored boxes. That's more than enough. The material for the top players is not a bad idea

You know. Finding five people to carry you through Crota is not hard to find. Lv 32 in a month. Then play crucible.
-
How about something similar to csgo were you have a curtain amount of good drops through the week for example for every 5 games played you have a good chance at a legendary engram and after about 4 or 5 of those drops a week

I think that Bungie when they release Destiny2 that they should split the matches so only people who are the same level than you can play in your match. ex: lvl 10 people can only play with lvl 10 people. lvl 11 people can only play with lvl 11 people.

There should be a minimum score or K/D you have to reach to be eligible for legendary exotic rewards. Let's set that minimum at 1.0. That way say, you and your team work together well and you all end up with a similar K/D of 1.3-7. You all get rewards because everyone contributed. But say you play another game and you get 50 kills while your whole team goes negative. Only you would get rewards. Just an idea, expand on or criticize it however you want.

Hey... The crucible is balanced. Gear doesn't matter(that much). If I am BETTER than the level 30 I trounce, I should get a reward.

Good idea
