You Don't Understand Exotics
I don't think people understand what exotics are in Destiny. You assume exotic means: super rare drop. Destiny defines exotics as: armor and weapons that contain unique perks that allow further character customization. The reason this is hard to grasp is because Bungie needs to create a new color for "raid gear" which is different from other legendaries.
Do the tiers talk about drop rates? Yes, but not to the degree that you expected. People need to understand what Bungie means by exotic so this community can move on.

1 Replyif it was their intention to have exotics be so "rare" I doubt they would have had xur selling them from week one and they probably wouldnt have patched the ol douchebag cryptarch to increase your chances at better drops. every game uses a different system of colors to help differentiate each tier of gear and weapons. it doesnt mean that one color is the universal symbol of rarity in video games. I do agree with some guns being too much for pvp use but then again you have the same options available to you so my suggestion would be to just get better then the other guy. for pve purposes I never understood the reasoning. if im running the raid I would give two shits if everyone had maxd ghorns because its only going to make it easier on everyone.

5 RepliesMany of us are going off of what Bungie stated pre release. Exotics were supposed to be something unique and something that told a story of one's hard ships. What they had to do to get it. All exotics actually tell these days is how RNG took a break for someone. Don't get me wrong. I know they are not supposed to be super strong. But many of them are not worth using over legendaries that you can find. Which If it takes a slot up so I can't use another It better be worth it.

Exotic arms and armor are of a strange or foreign design, origin and purpose and are used to accentuate playstyles and switch up how you play the game. I implore anyone who thinks exotics aren't living up their name to find a definition of the word and then look at most of the exotics in the game. There is a reason legendaries seem to outclass exotics in a lot of ways, and that's because the exotic tier was never meant to always be objectively better.

+1 my take is they are like shaders a fashion accessory with that little extra Pizzazz "bling weapons" so to speak. this forums full of people complaining about Xur, about the value of exotics (which is zero) etc etc. So let's all get over it Xur is fine he's ok as is yes some exotics need a little boost to make them more special over legendary's but there no game changer just because Xur sells them. Like the idea that raid weapons have a unique colour as personally think I find the raid weapons more useful than exotics!

Eh some of the exotic perks aren't all that unique. As far as rarity goes, I sure don't have a badass story, a lucky one yes, but badass? No. The way they set up exotics doesn't really make them special. But it's not gonna stop me from wanting gjallarhorn and icebreaker XD

So with Exotics being yellow (the highest rarity) then yes, they are supposed to be rare. That coupled with the fact that they have the lowest drop rates infact means theyre supposed to be rare (after all, why have them drop so little if theyre not meant to be?). Yeah youre right, the definition of Exotic isnt rare yada yada. Theres no point in arguing over semantics. Theyre meant to be the rarest otherwise they wouldnt be the highest rarity color and wouldnt have the lowest drop rates. Which baffles me as to why they have Xur sell them so cheap. My guess is because they took out trading last minute and needed a way to even out the RNG.

9 RepliesTalking about understanding things... I think we all need to understand that 90% of these forums are teenagers that need to spend more time studying than playing games, 8% are trolls that don't even play the game and 1% are semi intelligent. Those figures are being nice too.
