Lore by Lorebot

Written by Lorebot: Rasputin, I seriously doubt he was ever human. The Ghost Fragment: Mysteries card definitely seems to be written by Rasputin. He talks about being created by humans to never die, to learn, and to not lose. He also talks about something he calls the Titanomach, which seems to be a powerful entity that entered the system and systematically destroyed all the other warminds and crushed humanity all the way back to earth until Rasputin 'made himself alone' so that he would survive and in doing so stalled the onslaught. In greek history the Titanomachy is the tale of [a ten year] war between the Titans and the Gods of Olympus, it's an odd choice of words since the Gods were the children of the Titans. If the word was chosen purposefully it seems to indicate that the Titanomach is somehow connected to the warminds and/or humanity, they somehow gave birth to it and it turned on them. It's also significant because the Gods didn't defeat the Titans alone, they enlisted the help of other Titans who had been imprisoned or repressed. The bit about him 'cast(ing) off the shield and shrugging his shoulders so that the billions fell off' is interesting too because there's other lore indicating that in the final hours of whatever the Collapse was Rasputin took control of all defenses and facilities on Earth in preparation for a defense. It's known that during that time most of humanity was killed and that a fleet of colony ships was launched in a make shift escape attempt. It's possible that Rasputin ordered the launches as a sort of shield against the attackers, sacrificing billions of humans in some sort of plan that stopped the enemy's advance. It's very possible that's where the Reef comes from, that it's not what's left of all the ships that didn't make it home, but instead is what's left of the ships that didn't escape Rasputin's final gambit to stall the enemy at the gates. In effect sacrificing the bulk of humanity so that a handful would survive and give him time to prepare for 'round 3'. If you listen to Xur in the tower he has a line saying: 'Your Traveler has a dark mirror' which most of us have interpreted to mean that if the Traveler is the source of Light then it has a twin that's the source of Darkness. If the metaphor holds that would make the Warminds the Titans and the Darkness the Gods, with the Fallen, Hive, Cabal, and Vex as those things released by the Gods to help slay the Titans. Though some of the other cards [indicate] only the Hive serve the Darkness. The Fallen and Cabal both seem to be on the run from it, and there are indications that both of those races once served the Traveler or were influenced by it. The Vex are extra-galactic, they come from somewhere/when else, far outside of things. The Black Garden legends cards talk about the Traveler creating the Garden, that gardeners came to tend the flowers there in ships of bronze and they travel on rivers of thought. The Vex came to protect the Garden before it was turned Black by the darkness and that they were turned Dark along with it. Rasputin talks about the Keeper of the Garden and that she was defeated by the Darkness even though she was stronger than Rasputin. There are a lot of unknowns, hopefully we'll start getting more pieces to the puzzle soon.
