Week long events for new content

I had an idea for new DLC that could add a lot of spice to the game and possibly ease a lot of frustration with the unfinished content. WEEK LONG PUBLIC EVENTS TO UNLOCK NEW DLC! I am a decent programmer and network analyst, so I don't pretend to understand the process of game development. A game I played in the past and mentioned in many of my posts is a game called Rift. They had to release an expansion by a certain date and due to unforseen circumstances it was released unfinished. There was a zone completely shielded off that hard core players like myself could not grind our way through immediately. What ended up happening is once the zone was ready to release they had a week long event where the players were responsible for opening the area through an extensive community process. Before I go any further I quit the game before this took place, so I did not get to witness the process of opening this area; however, I do have an idea of how it could have happened. This will be the idea I am presenting to you. The content could take any amount of time to unlock. It could consist of farming materials, rapid and aggressive events attacking progress, and a large scale community mission to complete. People would need to farm materials from different planets, complete strikes/raids to take down enemy leadership, and ultimately defend a position to protect progress. THE PLAYERS CONTROL THE RELEASE OF NEW CONTENT. Here is a quick example: Guardians have discovered a valuable military point on Triton, Neptune's largest moon, to battle the Vex, Fallen, Hive, or a new enemy. They have the research to make the trip, but lack the resources and manpower to make the trek. Guardians will be tasked to gather resources and help build the transporter that will help them to reach this location. Along with this they will need defenders because the enemy will be trying to get there first or stop you from succeeding period. Guardians will be unable to defend all of the hordes attacking unless key leadership is taken out. Gather your guardians to defeat the leadership of our enemies and defend until this construction is complete. Gather resources and turn them in to the appropriate vendor to assist in construction. Once construction is complete guardians may travel to Triton to defeat the dug in enemies and take control of a key military point. It's a rough sketch, but imagine the entire destiny community on all systems teamed up for one common mission. It could be incredible. Bump?
