Is the content really on our discs already?

Does anyone have proof?

    • If it was all on the disc the people who trawl through the game files would be playing it on YouTube for all to see. The areas exist in game but are by no means complete and all the new enemies aren't there yet. The game has to be essentially complete long before the release date for production of the disc etc so they start on the DLC before release.

    • Not all of it, but People have glitched into dlc areas that seem if not fully complete, 90% complete.

No one has proof, and no one ever will. There were maps on disk, and despite the fact that several people who understand how release management works on this forum explained the rationale, people would rather believe guesswork presented in the forms of YouTube videos with horrible PvP montages. Bungie eventually came out, saying the same thing. They shipped what they could, in terms of maps, for the same exact reasons that people had pointed out - namely being, every little bit less that people had to download would mean that it was that much quicker people could get the subsequent updates. It is just easier to patch what you have, then it is to hold it back, sometimes. More telling, though, is the last patch. Nearly 2GB worth of changes, and more actual proof of content not being on disk than anyone has been able to provide to the contrary argument. Of course, most of the threads pointing out the massive amounts of details that were gleaned from the actual patch itself were buried amongst the noise. Bungie will just never be able to win the argument around it, either. They could remove every invisible and visible barrier in this game, and people would threaten to sue them for not having anything in those maps. Edit: A more detailed explanation that I gave on the same general concepts can be found in this thread: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/76396485/0/0

          • it is. the proof will be the miniscule download which probably just contains the key. DLC = Developer Locked Content

            • The infrastructure is. Think of it like this: It's like an empty town and the dlc gives it life.

I am sure some of it is. This has been done since the inventing of DLC. Bioware just came out and said that Dragon Age will have no DLC characters because of all the "controversy" from having DLC characters already on the disk from Mass Effect What the ignorant masses dont understand is that they feel like it is content that they are just being double charged for. When anyone that has any experience in software development will tell you, this is not the case.

                • Seeing how loads of DLC related stuff is being put into the game via patches atm, I very much doubt it.

                • None of it is technically on our disc, it's on their server.

                  • Only some low base textures and a couple generic enemies. All developers do it. It prevents you from having to download a huge file with tons of new areas/coding. This not only makes it faster to download, but also prevents corrupted data or download issue. Also it's less info that has to be stored on your hardrive. Nowadays the amount of info that can be crammed on a disk is a lot. There's no point in not using the extra space on the disk to make future downloads for your customers easier. Before developers could only fit a certain amount on the disk so there was no room for additional info. Now they can do it so it's easier down the road. A lot of people interpret this as content being hidden when that isn't the case at all. That's just entitlement. Simple question to ask: If the DLC was not currently on the disk (or at least the small part that is) and the entirety of it was sold later, would that have been ok? Would it be acceptable if that additional disk space was left blank and all DLC was left off of it?

Yes, you can glitch into some of the DLC areas and explore. With the cuts Activision forced Bungie to make and the early release date, a few areas weren't able to be completed, but rather than delete and remove everything, some of the locations were able to be saved to be worked into dlc. Ignorant people will say foolish things like "these areas are ALL FINISHED and Bungie locked the content on our disk just to make money!1!!1!". Wrong. Bungie has never done anything of the sort with any of their games. Some of these areas still need some extra polish to be finished, and they have place holder enemies in a few of them, but those aren't the real enemies nor are the areas finished yet.

                      • I will eat fried crickets if someone actually posts the source code and points out the actual code of the DLC and the code that's locking it.
