In the trailer, Eris says she "has seen what the Hive calls a god." Then we see a regular looking knight.
What if it is a regular looking knight using the sword to summon Crota and Crota is actually some huge, insane thing we've never seen before? I kinda hope he is NOT a regular looking knight. Anyway, just a theory.
