I'm sure this has been said a thousand times. It's hard to keep up as fast as the forums move.
Anyways;
Just have a wing, or use existing areas, with rooms dedicated to the event you want to play. Raid room, weekly's, strikes, crucible, bounties/patrol, story etc.
There's almost enough rooms now that they could just throw a banner up.
Go to the speaker to find raiders
(hard mode by the spinning thing, normal near new monarchy), to the basement for weekly's and so forth. I haven't given good thought as to which rooms would be good.
It would be much nicer if they just did a separate wing to divide up the game types better.
I think this could help where they don't want to add matchmaking. I'd like it just to find someone to run some bounties and the more boring mundane grinding. Stuff that's not worth looking for people to do it on LFG sites. And stuff that could never use matchmaking as it's just not played like that and shouldn't be. I'm actually on the side of no matchmaking for raids now. I think this could provide an acceptable means to get to enjoy co-op quick, when you don't have friends playing at that time. Especially when you just need one person or someone drops and need to find a replacement quickly.
TL;DR; separate rooms representing game types in the tower so you know who wants to play what and get someone in game right there ready to play with you. Could be a solution for people begging for matchmaking and very easy to incorporate via updates without worrying about further server(servitor) strain.
