It took a bit of money, time, and effort - but I'm pleased with the outcome! Now my Dinklebot can watch over me when I sleep, do homework, and play Destiny for way longer than I should. I also bring it everywhere I go just in case I die (if you see a floating blue orb please revive me).
Let me know what you guys think! Please post any creations of yours in the comments as well.
ADD ME for XBox One and XBox 360. I make regular appearances on Destiny :)
INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOW BELOW (So don't read if you don't care)
1. Download ".stl" files from http://www.myminifactory.com/object/ghost-destiny-2396. You'll have to do some simple registering steps but it's free unless you've downloaded a lot of things from that website before. There is actually FIVE different files for the five pieces so please be aware.
2. Load the files onto a thumb drive and take it to someone who has a 3D printer (obviously don't do this if you own one). I went to my university library, but I'm sure there's many places and people that will let you use theirs.
3. One the print is complete (may take a day or two), carefully break off all the "support material". It's the thin plastic crap on it that isn't part of the original design. Support material is essential for the construction but it's made to break off easily after completion.
4. Sand down all five pieces of the print. This is optional but it gets rid of the micro ridges in the print and causes the final result to be much smoother. I used 100 grit sandpaper.
5. Use a light colored spray primer on the exterior surfaces of all the prints.
6. Paint desired colors and details. I used acrylic paint and it took several coats to look thick and bold. The red shading was a bit tricky. I bought a pack of mini-pots of acrylic paint and used the black and red to make maroon. Light sticking painting tape was extremely useful for getting crisp lines, but again it's up to you to decide how to accomplish this part.
7. Use a spray high-gloss acrylic clear coat to protect your work with the paint.
8. Fill the center ball (the two halves) with clay. (This is OPTIONAL. I just did it to give my model more weight)
9. Glue the pieces together. I used Gorilla Gule Epoxy and was very pleased with how it held. ***SIDE NOTE: the eye piece is just a hole, so I used a pice of support material painted blue and glued it behind it to create the proper eye glow effect.***
10. Enjoy your new Ghost! Make sure to bring it everywhere just in case you need someone to revive you.
Here's the breakdown of the cost:
3D print: $11 (charged for material used)
Epoxy, sprays, paints, tape, brushes, clay, sandpaper: ~$35
Time to complete: 240 minutes (not including printing time)
Cheers, guardians! If any of you make this please post pictures in the comments!

Edited by Olafaloofian: 12/4/2014 9:17:24 PMJUST CURIOUS: If bungie gave me a green light, how many of you would pay $50.00+shipping for a custom painted (you choose colors) Ghost? If I was trying to make money I wouldn't have told you how to make it yourself haha
