Destiny Saved My Life (probably)
Back in 6th grade, my life began to get tough. My grades were fine, teachers awesome, but kids mean. Everyday I would be called names, excluded from groups, shoved into lockers, and be ridiculed with insults. It became so bad that I started missing a lot of school. So after a few months I transferred to a therapeutic school. This school helped me, but not for long. I began to get more and more depressed, I had no friends, and my family didn't seem to care for me. In seventh grade, I tried to kill myself. My parents sent me to a mental hospital where I stayed for a few weeks; when I came home nothing had changed. I feel the hospital did not teach me to deal with my depression but instead mask it. I stayed at the same school for a few more years, but I just let my depression boil up inside of me.
Early of this year I began to plan and new way to kill myself. I had failed once so I came up with A new idea, so this time I wouldn't. It was right around this time Destiny came out. Destiny helps me get everything off my mind. I can play it without feeling angry or depressed. Destiny has made my life more fun and fulfilling. Without destiny I would have killed myself.
I know some of you will think of this as stupid, but it is the only thing that helps. I have been seeing a therapist for many years and been on a variety of medications. The only thing that has helped me so far is playing destiny. So thank you Bungie for creating a amazing game, and saving my life.

My diagnosis is Major Depression, recurrent. It took being hospitalized and a really brutally honest doctor to make me see that there was something wrong, and that I did not have to feel like that. Like a number of other posters here, I can attest - it can get better. And there is NOTHING wrong with finding something that helps, especially something like Destiny. Video games do more for people than you think. How many times would someone have been out on a weekend night and gotten killed by a drunk driver had they not stayed home and played?

1 ReplyBro, if it makes you happy, how is it stupid? Who cares what others say? I'm 20 years old, hated high school. Barely graduated, was a shitty kid to be honest. Went to tech school and now I'm an aircraft mechanic with a beautiful fiancée. Things always work out. Keep that head up brother!

As someone who suffers from PTSD and depression I am glad you have found something. Just know there are others out there that feel the same and have seen the darkness you have. Keep your chin up there is light after the darkness. I still have few friends, but they are as close as brothers. Give it time.

4 RepliesFirst off, let me say, -blam!- the naysayers. Those who haven't experienced depression or suicidal thoughts have no idea what it really feels like. People who haven't encountered the darkness don't know how it feels, and therefore may not understand how to deal with it, or unfortunately, with you. May I offer some things that help me fight the darkness: Exercise Eating a balanced diet Taking Vitamin D supplements (5,000 IU or more) Finding something that you enjoy (like playing Destiny!) A therapist/Counselor The Vitamin D is something that has GREATLY helped with the mental struggles, however, it's not a fail safe. Having someone to talk to (who isn't just going to prescribe you drugs) is a great outlet and is normally pretty safe. And also, it does get better. I know it may not seem like it, but I've fought my way through and I still get sucked down into the depths every now and again. But you can make your life fulfilling and full of happy moments, you just have to push your way through as best as possible. Whatever - only you can change your life. If a simple game can bring you "away" from your dark minded thoughts, you are able to survive - but it depends on you, make a sanity check - it is your responsibility, SOLDIER! So - get a grip, don't make shit and the light will be with you!

Regardless of whether or not this post is real, the fact that some of you morons make fun of this kid is pretty sorry. Obviously you've never had to feel the pain of losing someone to issues like depression/suicide. I hope you never do, but if you do, I hope you remember this and learn from it. Life is tough enough to not have to deal with internet-toughguys kicking you in the nuts when you try to be honest. As for bdhlax101, hang in there man. Read the posts on here from people who have been through this kind of stuff and take it to heart. It sucks while you're dealing with it, but there's a lot of different ways to get well. And once you do, you'll look be able to look back on things and be proud that you bitch-slapped depression.

Havnt been so depressed im suicidal but ever sense ive bought destiny i have been a lot better. Especially this week. I made lvl 30 got the ice breaker red death and vex mythoclast all in 2 days!!!
