Improvements for Next Iron Banner

Bungie, you have done a fantastic job with this second run of Iron Banner. I am not a fan of traditional Crucible, but this week is the first time I have found myself spending more time playing PVP than PVE. I feel like I am actively working towards a goal, rather than hoping that RNGesus deems me worthy of a reward (which he hasn't for over a month). The Iron Banner has definitely revitalized my interest in Destiny. However, since I know you're always looking for ways to improve this franchise, I thought I'd share some things that would make the Iron Banner a little less monotonous, and a little more accessible to the average gamer. 1. Bounties. This Iron Banner's bounties are well-balanced, requiring skill to complete, but feeling far less impossible than the first time around. However, the fact that they remain the same each day is a slight disappointment. Control is already a fairly repetitive game variant, and when everyone is trying to complete the same bounties during each match, this repetition is compounded. For example, when every day a player can get extra experience for using an auto rifle, it's no surprise that everyone will be running around with a Suros Regime. This is fine for a day or two, but after a week it gets both frustrating and boring. A simple way to fix this is to cycle through weapon types. Start with auto rifle headshots, then for the next day move to hand cannons, etc. You can't change the fact that players will still use the best weapons in the selected class, so there will still be Regimes on auto rifle day and The Last Words on hand cannon day, but at least this sameness won't last for an entire week. 2. Iron Banner Packages. After seeing that I had reached rank 3 in the Iron Banner, I instantly left matchmaking and went to the Tower to open the package that would be waiting for me at the Postmaster. Imagine my disappointment after realizing that Lord Saladin was keeping a tighter grip on his possessions than I thought, and I was left package-less. My greed may be showing through, but I think it would be great if Iron Banner packages were received after reaching certain ranks. Drops are very rare, and I think this would be a way to make the experience a little more rewarding. 3. Think of the Nine-to-Fivers. You've already heard people asking for an extension for the Iron Banner, and I'd like to say that I agree with them. I was fortunate enough to have some extra free time this week, but even then I am still working my way up through the ranks. For people who have obligations to attend to, they won't be able to truly take part in the Iron Banner, and that's not fair to them. There are a few ways to fix this disparity, and allow the working gamers an equal chance at reaping Iron Banner rewards. The first is the obvious one - extending the competition to two weeks instead of one. A second option would be to decrease the experience necessary to rank up, allowing for faster progression during the week. Finally, you could lower the number of ranks to three, allowing the workers to reach the maximum rank quicker. Those are all the ideas I have had, so I'd like to reach out to the Destiny community and see what other thoughts are out there. I would love to hear them.

  • Biggest problem with Iron banner plain and simple where the laggy servers. Some games where unplayable and there was a clear difference in lag from normal crucible to Iron Banner servers. Only other thing I would like is a wider selection of bounties and rewards(ones with pvp based procs not the same old procs on every other weapon).

  • Something has to be done about the connection to destiny issues. There are too many people with good internet speeds to have a poor connection to destiny. I wasn't able to play as much as i wanted to because of poor connections.

    • Boy I really hope they dont make it harder or longer to get to max rank. I understand that most of you say you work full time and got there no problem playing last week, but some like me work full time get home and spend time with the kids, have dinner with the family, put the kids to bed, spend time with the wife and the get maybe 1-2 hours tops on the game and then have to go sleep to get up for work the next day. Sure I got to rank 4 last week but it was by the skin of my teeth...any longer or harder and it would be impossible for guys like me.

    • There will normally only be 3 ranks, but they didn't want to piss ppl off since they had not announced the rep reset. However, they haven't said if it will be as easy lvling to rank 3 as this go around

    • I agree about bounties rotations, I was using Suros for the first 20 headshots each day then switching to Hawkmoon. Why time limits though? Make it permanent, in all game mode not just control, and change Lord Saladin to a PvP vendor with infinite ranks like the others. You have a chance every rank after 3 to gain a random weapon/armor that is not available in the pool he normally sells. I've won 3 Timur's lash and a ship, but I couldn't really profit of reforging because those weapons didn't interest me enough to use my motes. Those things should be permanent so that Crucible is for learners/beginnes/testers and Iron Banner is for the top of the food chain pvpers who wants a challenge.

    • Turn the tokens into a currency that can be spent on the drops instead of an insane amount of glimmer, and fix the rewards. 1 purple every 12 hours is so pathetic its embarrassing. 1 purple should drop every match. That is still a 1 in 12 chance that you might be rewarded that purple, and a 1 in 36 chance that its the purple you want. 36 matches is 6 hours. I think anybody who dedicates 6 hours of non stop 4 map event deserves at least one thing they would be happy with.

    • I would have agreed with number 3, but after actually attempting to I had enough time to level up to rank 3 in the IB and I only played on Saturday. I think it gives you a fair amount of time to complete it for those who don't have a lot of free time. Without simply guaranteeing everyone level 30 gear, but still giving them a possible challenge. There is also the bonuses of simply wearing the class armor, shader, emblem, and tempered buff ( increases more each day) which is an easy extra couple of rep points to easily rank up faster.

              • I agree except for a few things bugging me. 1. Why does everyone think the Last Word is the go to PVP gun? I have it and would rather use Thorn or TDYK. 2. Nothing is fair. Gaming is a hobby or past time. You can't have an argument based on fairness. I hope Bungie does some of the things you and others have mentioned. IB is becoming a great event.

              • I agree with all of the points made. This iteration was a great improvement from the previous, but there are a few more things that could be tweaked. In addition to rotating bounties, the next iteration would hopefully have rotating playlists, at least bouncing between clash and control (the 3v3 playlists might not be a good idea, as the impact of having a single unskilled player would be all the more frustrating).

              • 1. I think you're correct in that there needs to be more...and a wider assortment of bounties. Having only six non-recycling ones got tedious, and would have made progression difficult without the buffs. 2. Can't have it both ways. If you have the buffs/tempered AND a two-week event....you might as well just HAND OUT whatever Lord Saladin is selling for those two weeks. I think Bungie got this right. If its one week...then offer the escalating buff (tempered) as a concession to those who have lives away from the console. But if its two weeks...then the buff has to go. I work full-time plus...but was able to level up TWO of my characters from rank 0 to rank 4 (and get the armor they needed to get to level 30). I took my Hunter to rank 4 only playing a couple hours a day from Wednesday to Saturday Morning. I took the rest of Saturday off, and got my Warlock to Rank 4 basically by grinding away for 8 hours on Sunday. ...and it wouldn't have even taken that long if I hadn't kept getting punished by the matchmaking. Everytime I'd get with a winning team....the matchmaking algorithm would break it up, and stick me with a new one. So I wound up with a number of losing streaks because I wound up with teams that were either overmatched, outgunned, or couldn't play as a unit. Two weeks with the system of buffs they had in place this time around? Too long. 3. Also need to be a wider assortment of maps. I got much better at the end----playing the same maps----because you wound up knowing them so well. But it also got a bit tiresome basically playing on the same 3-4 maps.

              • I am a working father with a 2 year-old toddler. One week of IB is plenty of time to level up, especially with the tempered boost. That was pure genius to aid us employed folks. I have three days left

                • I feel like they should approach the IB like the do the raid. Take a level 30 and set as base. Then every level under does 20% less damage with maxed out weapons. That will truly make gear matter.

                  • I your going the two week route make it so iron banner has 10 ranks tempered is only available on weekends. If it goes to rank 10 they gotta make it worth it so make it so you can buy almost everything. If this takes place glimmer is to easy to get do why not make it a mix of glimmer and marks or a new currency all together similar to medallions of iron. Reforging is great keep that shit. Make it so you can refund it though but only your previous roll or else it would be op. If you got more ideas comment on this

                  • #1 improvement: get better anti-trainer / eboot mod programs. Infinite health and damage mitigation/boosting/unlimited supers is fun to play against.....
