What class setup do you use and why?

Hey guys, Timmah(!!!!) here. I find that throughout this forum and reddit etc, there just isn't enough information regarding class setups. Although there aren't many choices within each subclass, each selection you make is key to how you play. Some are better to use in the Crucible, while some are gonna bring you better luck using in PVE. I don't know much about Warlocks or Titans, but I've done much research on Hunters and think I have them down pact. I will explain what I use in PVE and PVP, and explain why. Alright here we go: PVE (Raids, Strikes, Nightfall [in a group]) Subclass: Gunslinger ---I choose gunslinger for many reasons. First off, bladedancer is great. I love both subclasses equally. But bladedancer is best used in the crucible, which I'll get into later. In raids and all that, you don't want to be up close with enemies because one melee hit from a dreg or Praetorian and your toast, and Bladedancer really focused on being close to your enemy. So Gunslinger it is! Also, in HM VOG, you cannot revive guardians so going invisible is almost useless. Grenade: Tripmine Grenade ---For me this is almost a no brainer. You can use this grenade as a sticky grenade that does a ton of damage, or stick it on a wall where enemies come out and take out multiple enemies at once. Incendiary Grenade is okay, but tough to throw and damage is minimal. Swarm grenade is a joke IMO. Jump: Triple Jump ---This is all preference, but jumping three times is the best to get out of hairy situations and I find it more fun that just jumping twice. Again, the other two are perfectly fine to use as well. Golden Gun Perk: Combustion ---This. Perk. Rocks. Whenever you kill an enemy with golden gun, they explode and damage other enemies. That can easily add an extra kill or two within the allotted shots you get (3/4 depending on gear). Deadeye is a nice perk, but I don't feel like you need more accuracy for GG. Gunfighter reduces the cool down of golden gun, but only by about 10 seconds. Really not worth it. Throwing Knife: Knife Juggler ---This perk is so much fun to use. Precision kills with your knife will immediately reset the cool down of the knife, aka you get it back right away. In raid this may not be best, but using it on weaker enemies in VOG or in strikes can give u consistent kills over and over in a matter of seconds. Not to mention it just looks cool ;). Circle of Life is just plain pointless, and Incendiary Blade is weak on raid enemies. Path: Unknown ---Again more of a preference. I chose unknown, which increases your battle recover and armor. First off, battle recovery is the most important stat, so always get that. I find speed isn't so necessary in raiding which is why I chose toughness over speed. Gun Perk: Gunslingers Trance ---This perk will depend on your gun choice. Trance gives you increased weapon stability with precision kills. I mainly use Scout Rifles, so this is incredible for me. Non stop 1 shot headshots will get you kills quick. Keyhole is okay, but combustion can make up for its loss. Scavenger I find pointless because your stats can help you get your grenade and throwing knife back. If you don't use hand cannons or scout rifles(or snipers), use keyhole I suppose. Way: of the Nomad ---As I said earlier "battle recovery is so damn important. End of story here. Gun Perk 2: Chain of Woe -Again, this is weapon preference. Headshots increase reload speed, this pairs very well with Gunslinger Trance. Gamblers Dagger is useless in raids. Over the Horizon is nice, you can shoot your golden gun from any distance and still do max damage. Recommend that if you use high rate of fire weapons. Alright, time to move on to my preferred PVP class build. Subclass: Bladedancer ---Its just so damn fun. Arc blade can rack up kills in a hurry and since a lot of battle is close combat, I find it a better pick than Gunslinger Grenade: Flux ---This is a preference pick. Flux is my current go-to since its a guarantee kill if you stick someone, which is easy to do. Skip grenade is okay but won't kill anyone. Arcbolt is a good one if you have the Lucky Raspberry chest, but again it isn't guaranteed to kill anyone. Jump: Blink ---No doubt about it. Very very fun and effective once you get used to it. Super Perk: Showstopper ---Showstopper can be a game changer. It is an AOE attack that kills enemies all around you. If you get into a zone area and have a few enemies around, you can take them all out very quickly. Razors Edge can be good but it's tough to use (aim is sticky) and vanish is pointless because invisibility doesn't work much in PVP. Melee: Fast Twitch ---A tough one to be honest. I choose fast twitch because every five seconds I have my melee attack ready which gives me a better chance to kill someone quick. Escape artist again is stupid because invisibility. Backstab is nice but getting behind enemies in PVP is tough. Path: Forgotten ---Remember when I said recovery is the best stat in the game? No more. Toughness and speed is so key in PVP. Take more damage and move quick. Simple as that. Subclass Perk: QuickDraw ---Another tough one. Having your weapon drawn first is so important so choosing this is best. Fleet footed is nice but it won't make much a difference, and shadow jack is invisibility so nah. Way: of the Fearless ---Toughness. Take more damage. Preference really but it's worked best for me. Recovery isn't that great in PVP because you can't hide from enemies like you can in PVE. Subclass Perk 2: Encore ---THIS. IS. GREAT. Encore increases the duration of your arc blade with each kill you get. The first time I used this, I killed three enemies in a row and stopped because I thought I was done with my super. Look down, bar is still 3/4 full. It's amazing. Recommended Weapons: PVE: For my build, Scout Rifle/Hand Cannon would be best. Sniper and Machine gun to finish it off. PVP: AR (SUROS), shotgun(can't stand them but they work), and Rocket Launcher (ballerhorn). I would love to hear all of your feedback on my builds, as well as what you use for your other classes. Let's get this thread building so people have a reference to look at when in need of a new class build.

  • Over the past week, I have started changing my loadouts and skills more frequently. BladeDancer in Nightfall using the cloaking skills saved us from getting wiped after the Warlock self-ressed and got overwhelmed again with a LightSwitch mob. GG with improved range at extreme distances does have a use. I was using it while Ice Breaker was "reloading". Chain of Woe for higher levels is a must. I like throwing 2 knives; but rapid reload, especially with Thorn, is essential. Arc Grenade with Lucky Raspberry and Arc Burn Just used the super that throws arc damage in a path for first time during Nightfall yesterday. Again, it was because of Arc Burn. I used my Super, cloaked, walked near Archon Priest, and hit him with it, tossed Arc Nade, and jumped out. Better control/Blade Dancer: VoG/Nightfall Platforming or getting back to a safer location is easier than with Blink. Blink rules PvP for disorientation. Higher jump goes higher than Triple Jump PVE: Shadow Price/Ice Breaker PvP: Shadow Price/Invective

    • Builds are based off each persons play style, not really like other MMOs where people take the cookie cutter builds to max things.
