Micro transactions for gear... Can we have them?

Pay real money for any item in the game. Let the poop throwing begin!!! I would like to see a pro's and con's list about this topic. For those "people" out there, a positive and negative list of why we should or should not pay real money for items.

  • Absolutely NOT! Pay to win is never a good option. Would ruin destiny quick, andbungie knows this.

I can't think of any viable pros. There is a very major con...and that con is not defined as just simple negative. Let's say gear was made available for real money purchase. What deterrence would bungee have for reducing an already abysmal RNG if they can actual sell items for real money? We can already see and have witnessed many nerfs that include now consumables. Drop rate percentages reduced repeatedly. For example and hypothetical; 85% of drops will range from 260-270 light. 15% of drops from 271-280. 5% drops at 281-290. 4.5% at 291-299 and .5% at 300 or higher. Bungie stated that the amount of gear in this new dlc exceeded the original vanilla. The loot table (excluding exotics as they have a separate table), for the sake of argument , is 3000 pieces. You have a 1-150 chance of getting a good drop using basic math. However, RNG is different as actual odds are much greater and more akin to a lottery drawing. Lottery days you have a 1:7 chance at winning a prize. Anyone who has ever played can attest that they've not won every 7th try or before. Rather than get overly complex, simply put, the actual chance of getting that drop in 150 or less is much lower than .5%. This is the current format although I don't claim factual percentages. Merely random to show my point. So to continue the lottery analogy, if you want to decrease the odds of winning the jackpot, you increase the playable numbers. Odds of winning a smaller prize goes up giving the player a sense of victory. It's like increasing the engram drop rate but also increasing the chance at more lower tier gear. Because the pool of lower gear is that much greater, the better gear only sees a much more minimal increase as there simply isn't many of them in the pool. So let's say they make gear available for purchase. Money rules. This is capatalism at its worst. Greed. All it takes is a bit of adjustments to the drop percentage rates, reduce even engram drops and the grind for a minimal chance at something good becomes overwhelming. You can't get past 'x' light after weeks of playing!! But wait, for $5 you can buy 'x'. It's worth it isn't it? It's only $5 after all. The grind will not stop. You'll be forced to buy to keep pace because doing it the old fashioned way isn't getting you anywhere. A year later, after going back over your finances, you realize that you'd spent $250 on items. (Just an example) I know you've heard the term 'pay to play'. Why sell a cure one time when you can sell treatment for a lifetime? That is a con and is the con.

  • Definitely not, I'm against micro transactions but I suppose as long as it's just decorative items then it's not so bad

And that kills games fast.

  • Pay to win in a game where you can easily get high level gear just doesn't make sense. 3 of coins, the raid and court of oryx is all you need to get high level gear.

  • This type of gaming has ruined great greats understandable they need money in a dying economy but micro transactions in games absolutely demolish everything that makes gaming fun

  • I'd say yes and only for specific items and that should be the only way to obtain said item. Therefore, when ever I see someone using said item I can persecute them for it. Muhahahaha!

Not for gear no, for materials needed for upgrades maybe, I have no problem with people being able to buy a short cut to the grind as long as said materials are still available for free to people who don't mind grinding. It's players choice then. Spend money or spend time, some people have one or the other but rarely an abundance of both.
