Five Nights at Freddy's 2: What we know so far.

BE PREPARED, THERE ARE SPOILERS AHEAD THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING Okay, so, even since it was just released today, we now know a ton about the game, probably due to a dedicated fanbase. We have gleaned a lot of information from the game, but there are still a ton of mysteries to solve, and things left to figure out. So let's start with the facts. You are playing as Jeremy Fitzgerald at the 'new and improved' Freddy Fazbear's pizza. However, this is not the re-opening of the old restaurant that we know and love. It is the reopening of a family diner. It was:
"Fredbears Family Diner" or something like that.
The events of the game take place in 1987, during the time when children are stuffed in suits, and before the Bite of '87. This game is, most indefinitely, a prequel. Need more proof? You get even less money in FNAF 2, suggesting that the minimum wage was lower. Additionally, after night 7, the player will be given a check for 'overtime', and behind the check is a newspaper. It says that the new restaurant is being closed down, and the CEO hopes to open again with the old characters, since the new ones are being scrapped. Although, it may be with a smaller budget. This is the final nail in the coffin, since it undeniably puts FNAF2 as a prequel. There are some interesting questions that arise, though, especially concerning the 'death minigames' and the 'Freddy vision after beating each night. Most importantly: What is the Marionette? In each of the death minigames, you play as an animatronic, mostly Freddy, and see some interesting things. It suggests that a child was killed outside Fazbear's Pizza, and that the Marionette brought the animatronics to life, and killing people. And during the death minigames, letters are repeated, different for each one.
HELP THEM during the 'Give Life minigame SAVE HIM during the 'Give Cake' minigame SAVE THEM during the 'Chase marionette' minigame
DISCLAIMER: SPECULATION AHEAD Given what we have observed so far, the Marionette seems to be the one that gave the animatronics some sort of consciousness, which explains their behavior towards adults.
They just...stare
The Marionette is likely a dead child, and is seeking vengeance, and is possessing the animatronics. Alternatively, it could simply be lonely. The child died alone, and presumably became the Marionette. So, it killed, or influenced killing, in order to not be lonely anymore. It trapped the spirits of those who died. Another thought is that the robots failed to protect the child, and are 'glitching' because they defied their purpose, as per the "Robot Laws"
The robot laws A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. A robot cannot, through action or inaction, harm humanity. Precedes all other laws.
The Bite of '87 may be a result of this. Foxy could have seen the killer, and recognized his face, and bit him when he visited the pizzeria once more. This speculation arises from the Foxy death minigame, where Foxy goes out to children, and they celebrate. Only the third time, the children are dead, and the man in purple is there once more. This could potentially link to the Game Theory I posted; The killer's hallucinations are induced because of brain damage. Rampant speculation is rampant. The visions into the party room from the first game seem to suggest that someone, or something, is attached to the Freddy mask. This could possibly be the Freddy mask you wear during your shift; wearing it could have had some adverse affect, either trapping his spirit within, or causing him to have nightmares. Either way, the 'it's me' is very interesting at the end of each one. Almost reminds me of a Metallica song. "That black cloud up ahead? Yeah, that's me.." It could actually be the Marionette, but this is just another theory. Rampant speculation is rampant. Expanding on that theory, perhaps Jeremy's memories attached to the mask. Strong memories and emotions are speculated to linger on objects or places. So perhaps, when Jeremy's mask was retrofitted with parts, it was attached to the Freddy animatronic we see in FNAF 1. The posessed parts allow the children to posses the suit, and also, the Marionette. Perhaps, the children are reliving the stressful memories that Jeremy had, and are imprinting their own fears into the experience. Shadow Freddy and Shadow Bonnie could be referencing the fact that both Bonnie and Freddy are possessed in FNAF. Golden Freddy also only starts after Night 6 because it was mentioned by the phone guy, and the children are remembering it. The new GF appearance could be due to Jeremy's memories of seeing the animatronic earlier. This could also potentially link Mike into this whole equation, with everything fitting perfectly so far. Mike could have been killed on his last shift, and is reliving those memories... Only, he's also trapped with the children, making it a more beaten-down and horrifying place than before. Golden Freddy in this case kills him because of the children's wrath and his guilt. Perhaps, Mike did come back to work, as part of his parole, and was stuffed in a suit in reality. There is work to be done to link everything together, but this is the strongest theory that takes everything into account thus far. There could also have been multiple murders, because the death minigames detail different amounts of dead children. It could have happened in the old diner, where nobody would have noticed, but in the new restaurant, it is more open to scrutiny due to more popularity and the free-roam. A lot of things are still unclear, though, like why Golden Freddy shows up on night 6. It could be due to the children having gone missing, but things still aren't completely clear. Hopefully, people can dig deeper into this game and pull out some interesting things to look at. Well, that's my two cents. Feel free to speculate below. Or discuss. Or mention how much of a nerd I am. EDIT: Two other things have been confirmed: A shadow figure that stands to the left of the desk A Foxy endoskeleton in the vents It is unknown what these do, but they have been confirmed in-game Shadow Foxy Endoskeleton Shadow Freddy Endoskeleton Purple Security guard? EDIT: The links appear to be broken, I will hopefully fix tonight.
