Who prefers to solo?

I enjoy soloing very much, I'm a fallout 3 player at heart to give you an idea... I really wish that in the future Destiny offers more for us that just like to run around and shoot stuff by ourselves... Ideas? Comments? Who else solos? Glad to see I'm not the only one... I get there is some element to it but I just wish there was a solo mission type... Don't know why but all I think about is the water tower mission from orcina of time... Something like that but with shooting... Thanks for the feedback

  • I wish they had an actual WILD where it's a separate map with cool structures and a forest. Basically the enemy levels are random and you kinda need to be close to max level to go there and the level advantages are enabled. So there you are using your melee on a weak lvl 5 Vandal then suddenly a lvl 25 Centurion rushes at you with its shield so you decide to take cover only to have a lvl 30 Knight swing at you from behind. Next thing you know it turns out there's a civil war going on between all 4 races and you're caught in the middle of it! If you die you lose all of the gear you acquired from the area BUT if you survive and end up killing 1 of the races Commanders who just so happens to be lvl 32 and a badass you get a unique reward like the Nightfall would give you or maybe lvl 30 gear.

Solo. I have played with others, and well I don't get it. I still do it, I joined a clan, I will gladly help anyone but I am not a social chatty person so I am not talking unless there is a point of technical clarification. But now I have to listen to people instead of music or just enjoy the soundtrack or have a favourite movie in the background. Then there is the pace, most people do not play at my pace. They have their own unique playstyle and motives that may not match mine. The result is often that playing with a group feels mechanical, it becomes button hitting because the characters on the screen do not synch with the voices of the players. The exception for me is PvP and fighting Aetheon because the pace and strategy require discussion that is mission specific. Suddenly the voices and characters do synch and that is great. But then it is dependent on the team dynamic and those moments of good are hidden in a sea of not so good. And finding a team. Bungie says just find a team uh sure. I suppose if you are a Bungie employee in a Bungie building surrounded by Bungie people that you have years of history with picking up two people with a meshing playstyle probably does work just great. The world outside of Bungie, not so much. But yeah I solo, and mainly it is because I am trying to have an immersive experience and the group is not. The Raid is a great example of this, I despise the very idea of the Raid (yes I have played parts of it, yes I had a good time. This is about the idea of it not the practice). Something new, something expansive, something wonderful. Just around the corner your eyes fall on something you have never seen in the game before "sh1t" 'what is it? what happened?" "I dropped my sandwich' "what?" "ha ha Bill dropped his sandwich' "ha ha Billtard" "ha ha" "Guys, guys, focus. Stunning visual effects amazing music awe inspiring moment" "ha ha Billtard" "hey whats this thing?" "What?" whole team is dead. EDIT: From everything I gather the majority of people do not play the Raid to be immersed or to enjoy it. They play the Raid to get the freaking helmet they need or that one gun that never drops for them. They want to cheese it or rush it or just run it real quick or character after character. And that is awesome for them, I do not fault them one bit. If that is part of their enjoyment then all of the power in the world to them. It just isn't my enjoyment. For me the missions and the Raid should be worthy opponents and defeating them should have worthy rewards. With the loot system as it is however the Raid is only an obstacle to the gear and an obstacle to level 30. END OF EDIT But then I am getting the distinct impression that Bungie perceives games as mechanical objects intended as a device to fill time during human interaction. Like Jenga or Pictionary. I perceive games as complex puzzles, as interactive experiences, as cornerstones of Human evolution and learning. A game should immerse. The term it's just a game is used all the time by people trying to devalue games yet the original expression was designed as a reminder to the immersed that it was in fact immersion. now I am just rambling. tl;dr: I prefer solo

    • I team up with my little brother when I can but for the most part I fly solo, only relying on my quick wit and the big iron on my back

    • I solo as much as I can. I still do the strikes though. I'm not the best player so I try to make it up by reviving as much as possible.

    • i 10,000% agree. im a fallout player and my girlfriend and i both play solo. sometimes we team up for a challenge but we havent even done either of the raids. Not a fan of gaming with 4 other folks, and im usually too baked to communicate as needed.

    • I would have solo'd this weeks on all three characters but died on the final boss (just needed to throw in a few more sniper shots to complete) through stupid mistakes. Then I just stopped and haven't looked at it since!

    • Love to solo. I don't trust people not to screw up. plus, with soloing, I can find all sorts of hidey holes and such. If it wasn't for soloing, I wouldn't have discovered the Valus Pipe trick

    • Solo helps me go at my own pace. I take breaks in between zones and pour another drink, grab something to eat, etc... After several hours of killing stuff my hands get sore and need a break, especially if I am sniping, I get cramps. So having the pressure of people wanting me to keep moving, I can do what I want and end up killing all the spawn (except for last week's night fall where the spawn never stopped).

    • Yeah I soloed for the longest time... I even tried the raid solo lol I was standing at the door like "why isn't this working?!" Not realizing there are three capture points. I like the idea of an "enter at your own risk" kind of wild.

    • I solo everything I can. To be honest I wish that the strike matchmaker had options for solo'ers Sometimes random people aren't what I want to deal with... Nothing worse than trying to do something properly, only to have the 2 randoms run off to the hidey hole in the corner (happens alot on Mars and Venus Archon strikes) If I die, i accept the penalty of having to restart at checkpoint/orbit... I really dislike staring at my ghost while 2 inept -blam!-ers squat under a box and fire randomly at whatever they can see while adds and minutes wasted pile up. Would really like to see options for selecting which modifiers the enemies have. Would love to ramp up the difficulty to the level it is at with 3 people in party but do it myself. Or a Barefisted with a busted Ghost mode, where your ammo synth abilities are gone due to ghost being damaged....It can't process the ammo you pick up, but it can boost your melee damage(lights out for guardians). Would be an awesome challenge to have to deal with certain enemies at melee range. As for the WILDS idea... I can see it being interesting, but the loss of things on death gives me horrible Everquest flashbacks /corpse anyone? A Large world zone sized mixed combat area would be awesome (pve/pvp faction based) with bounties geared towards resource control/target elimination. Maybe a larger version of a Public event, with a HUGE boss encounter out in a normal zone.... One day a week the top of the hour event turns into a brutal slug fest that lasts say 10-20 minutes or until boss dies. World Bosses would be amazing things Bungie....

      • I like soloing weekly and nightfall. I prefer to not have someone drag me down because they decided to go guns a blazing in the nightfall instead of being discreet. I swear it feels better to solo it. I don't need to worry about anyone but myself.

            • I'm a solo gamer myself as I mostly played offline single player games since the mid 1980s. When I did play multiplayer back then, it was usually offline versus modes (Street Fighter, Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat) and offline co-op modes (Contra III, Konami beat 'em ups). That said, I have had some online multiplayer experiences over the years. First, I had fun with Mario Kart DS's online multiplayer, but an assortment of cheaters, hackers, sore losers, and connection issues were utter buzzkills. Second, during my Final Fantasy XI days, I quietly logged in to solo or assist other players as Linkshell members talked about various topics (Linkshells were another name for clans in FFXI). As for Destiny, I tend to stick with the single player content because I DON'T enjoy competitive multiplayer in recent FPS. Granted, I played offline multiplayer in the N64's Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, but those weren't enough to make me a fan of that mode as a whole. It would be great if Destiny had more solo friendly modes to appease players who don't enjoy The Crucible. I feel modes add some much needed gameplay variety besides running, shooting, and looting are definitely welcomed. To date, my favorite boss in Destiny is the Fallen Walker because that boss battle felt like a boss from the recent Legend of Zelda games. In those games, players had to expose that boss's weak point in order to do any considerable damage and that weak point only available for a brief period of time. I find this game mechanic more interesting than gratuitously shooting bosses that only move and shoot.

            • born in 72 gaming since the beginning. games have always been about personal challenge and achievement until this obnoxious social wave of tards demanding everything be oriented towards their childish "cant do $h!t without circle jerk buddies to pick up my slack" needs. and then running around trying to gloat like a bullfrog about whatever thing they did whilst conveniently forgetting how they couldn't do it alone. doing nightfall is a serious challenge for most as solo fraggers except for those like us whom clearly understand what this type of accomplishment is. im ok with group work where its required in order to play. HOWEVER I have posted my thoughts about wanting a solo play through for the v o g. doesn't have to be changed just tweaked for solo playthroughs. or perhaps a mode added in for solo hardcore thump skull on wall types like us that thrive on the challenge. and yes there are those out there that think theyre superior because they can accomplish things in groups as TEAM players. that's a fraking lie and they and the rest of us know it. the true testament to a gamer is their ability to adapt to and overcome SUPERIOR challenges BEFORE they start whakkin their balogne in a "team" which usually consists of bone heads that cant do it alone and would scream about their great superiority the instant the match or mission is over. PAH and HAH. been seeing that k/d ratio thing flying around a lot like its a status thing in the real world. im retired and give a flying tick turd about k d ratio. when you can support your family and yourself and retire comfortably like me with a destiny k d ratio let me know how you did it then throw your k d ratio flag around like its more than a pretend number in a pretend universe. not an advertisement but anyone curious can check out my clan "THE RULES OF DEATH" just for laughs if no other reason. and look at my other posts in the feed back area "suggestions/ non nerf tweaks" . WORKING ON A TEAM IS RESPECTABLE IF ITS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE TEAM. IF ITS NOT YOURE A LOSER . IF YOU CANT STEP OUT AND DO JUST JUST AS WELL WHEN PLAYING SOLO YOU ARE A LOSER. SOLO AND TEAM ARE SYNONYMOUS WITH THOSE WHOM UNDERSTAND THE "TRUE" MEANING BEHIND BOTH AND CAN SUCCEED AT EITHER. SOLO IS THE TEST OF WHO AND WHAT YOU ARE. ALL ELSE COMES AS A RESULT OF "SELF" ACCOMPLISHMENT. PERIOD

Fallout 3: Loved that game. The subway systems were a whole world upon themselves. I like solo and enjoy co-op with my brother. The Public Events are my favorites. Bunch of randoms working together to get gold. I would love to see a solo section of the game, but I do enjoy the mix of randoms in patrols and events. After doing much of the game co-op, I find I miss that extra gun or flanking teammate when I play solo. Up till Borderlands 2, I had done all games solo. I still like the choose your own pace and direction of a solo game. Even with the malaria aggravation, I really enjoyed Farcry 2. No wild animals hunting you, just enemies to shoot and a vast open world to explore and take out enemies.

              • I don't mind doing co-op with others (since i enjoy doing co-op missions), but it's one thing to allow us to have a co-op option and another to be forced into it. And i for one don't like being forced to co-op when attempting to raid, that's why i wish a solo mode was implemented into the raids.

                • Yes, Solo FTW but on the other hand...Some of these Ideas are just messed up. They are so bad that it makes not having the dark below at this point look like a pansy problem... then again... I can empathize with those with groups that are full of (pardon the term) NOOBS Regardless... I still agree with a true solo gametype that actually promotes XP gain and other faction gains (No, Rumble doesn't count) Good luck Developers, P.S. Don't give so good Ideas that companies can't but agree with them and end up messing with everyone in a negative way
