Hi everyone! Please read before voting!
Was playing destiny with my mate today and I came up with an idea.
Basically, I'm at a point where rare engram drops are pretty useless. And uncommon drops are of no use at all, since I have like 600 sapphire wire.
To start my idea, uncommon drops need to be reverted back into engrams instead of direct items when you hit a certain level.
Now once you've collected say 20 uncommon engrams you can take these to the cryptarch and he can exchange them for 1 rare engram that is of a random slot (I.e helmet, primary, boots ect). 10 rare engrams can be converted into 1 random legendary engram. And 5 legendary can be converted into 1 random exotic engram.
Each conversion will give you reputation with the Cryptarch.
The numbers I've selected may not be ideal, but I fell they are a fair number.
To earn an exotic from scratch would be;
5 legendary,
50 rares,
1000 uncommon
(Is that right?)
EDIT; In respects to storing, how about making engrams of the same type stackable? If not in your inventory then how about in the vault?
EDIT 2; People suggesting that its too easy, like I said my figures were just examples and im not trying to set the standards
Just an idea! Let me know what you guys think :)
TL;DR
Convert 20 uncommons into a rare
10 rares into a legendary
5 legendary into exotic

A little tweaking to the exchange rates but yes.

Good idea bro

It could work.

600 sapphire wire? Man get to work I have about 1900.

Edited by Alchemy Sol God: 11/18/2014 8:12:23 PMIt's a good idea in theory but hard to put it in practice. First off, engrams don't stack so collecting them would be a burden on your inventory or vault. Second, the amount needed to trade for a legendary would need to be near 20 or 25 because doing Tiger Strikes practically guarantees one or two a round and Exotic Engrams would need to be ten because they are supposed to be that much superior. Lastly, the Cryptarch should probably charge a fee for his services because he to loves make us angry and because it's a guaranteed rarity.
-
Yes when converting uncommons to rare but not rare to legendary and legendary to exotic. being that rare engrams are quite common it would be way too easy to farm tiger strikes to upgrade. the conversion number woukd have to be much higher

I don't understand after lvl 20 why are we still getting green engrams? After we reach a certain lvl, we stop receiving white engrams. Green engrams serve no purpose except for taking up primary supply space.
-
I like this idea. I've got more weapon parts, sapphire wire, etc than I can count.
-
5 Legendaries is much too small IMO, but this is a good idea.
-
I like the idea.. I'm very tired of leaving a patrol with 20 greens and 6 blues.. I've gotten maybe one legendary engram drop in the past 50 hours of play time
-
Maybe...just maybe this could...work??

Self Bump

YYYYAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS
-
Bump! And I think when you refer to "commons" you mean the green ones right? These are uncommon ;)
-
Agreed and the numbers are fair
-
I like it.
-
Yeah good idea but don't think should be able to get exotics. But think same colour same type engrams stacking would be a great idea.
-
Would be even better if we could exchange 2 of the same color for a type we want. Example: 2 purple class engrams for 1 purple primary engram.
-
-
Make it harder than that, only ten rares for a legendary, way to easy
-
Try 25 rare
-
I had an idea just like this a while back, glad others think it would be a good idea. Only problem I felt was, where would all those engrams be stored ? Your vault ? Storage space is limited and your current inventory slots are only 9 spaces. Any ideas ?
-
Other issue being storage. How we supposed to save up all those engrams when our inventory and vaults are overflowing as is?
-
There are no more common engrams when you reach 20. Just saying. But as a matter of fact I disagree with that idea. But they should increase the base chance to get a purple engram in general.
-
I like it, but it will be easy with so low rare engrams for a legendary, something like 25 maybe, and 10 legendary for an exotic...
-
Numbers need to be bigger more like 30 rares for 1 legendary and 10 legendaries for an extoic so 300 rares is a good number
