Red Death improvement

So I have had red death for a while now, my first exotic I think. I hadn't leveled it though until I made my Titan and I thought it'd be perfect for adding to the survivability of a titan and making the defender class feel more tanky (along with strength gear and force barrier perks). I grind out bounties and such to get the perk and I unlock it only to find out it has the same limitations as a regular Regen.. Once you take more damage it doesn't matter if you just killed something you get no heal. That's almost pointless because that's the only time it would be useful! If you aren't under fire your health would just regenerate on it's own in a couple seconds. I hate that it took me this long to figure out this was a regular old pulse rifle with a slow fire rate and a glorified reload perk masquerading as something more. Well Bungie has talked a big game about fixing these exotics so they feel exotic and I really want this gun to be useful in PvE but as of now its just an ok pulse rifle. I think it should give an instant heal of either a quarter or a third of your health. I'd say instant regen but I know people would wine about that in PvP since Bungie refuses to use separate balancing. Either way this gun needs a tweak if it's going to compete with other weapons for that coveted exotic slot and truly feel like an exotic weapon worth using. Description sounds nice but aside from 300 dmg at max it might as well be a rare without anything else to set it apart.

Frankly, I think the people complaining about this weapon's health regen aren't using Red Death correctly. It's not meant to make you a run and gun tank where every single kill regens a huge chunk of your health regardless of whether or not you are currently taking more damage. The point of this gun is to stay somewhat behind cover and avoid taking a lot of damage at once. That way, when you take a few smaller hits and your health is around half, you can quickly pick off a tier 1 enemy with 1 or 2 bursts and instantly start rapidly regaining all your health as you retreat. This weapon is meant to keep your health constantly topped off during encounters that include a reasonable number of smaller enemies. I've been using this weapon for months and it has become one of my favorite guns. Small side note: most people probably don't know this, but Red Death is awesome for Crota's End. When the Presence of Crota stops health recovery, Red Death's regen perk will still heal you TO FULL HEALTH on every kill. Even if you don't have the chalice. Edit: I forgot to mention my thoughts on this gun in PvP. I've used it quite a bit both pre and post patch. Pre-patch, it was a pretty decent gun, IF you were accurate enough to hit headshots. Two bursts to the head would down someone, which was actually a pretty short time to kill. Post-patch, I don't like it quite as much. They lowered the impact and increased the fire rate, which means that it now takes a minimum of three bursts to kill. This is not a good weapon to use if you consistently try to take on multiple enemies simultaneously. With two people shooting at you, the health regen from the perk will be immediately canceled after you kill one player because the other player is still hitting you. However, this gun can shine in PvP if you know how to use it. You need to choose your battles carefully so that you can win a one-on-one gun fight, pop behind cover while your health quickly regens, and then pop back out to take on the next player. If you chain your kills correctly, you can take on 2 or more players in a row, while quickly regaining all your health between each kill. Problem is, you can't predict every encounter correctly and two people shooting you at once is enough to get you killed with this weapon unless you're a very good pulse rifle player.

Gotta love how they nerfed it harder than the Suros Regime. I guess bungie hates Halo 2 and 3 fans so much that they have to completely crush any weapon resembling the battle rifle. They love CoD fans though, stable ARs have been the ABSOLUTE BEST pvp gun since the beginning despite being the lowest skill weapon that and discouraging headshots. Yeah, once in a blue moon you get killed by the odd Last Word or Hawkmoon but the auto aim on hand cannons makes it pretty easy so I still find myself almost happy whenever I die to a pulse rifle. Bungie just wants to make the game accessible to terrible players that only know how to spray and pray, while those of us who were expecting a game that would stay fresh, cool and fun for a few years were expecting something with a slightly higher skillcap. Oh well, I'm sure a similar but but more balanced game will surface eventually. I still have some faith in the company but every time I play pvp I get so frustrated at whores who crouch in corners with a suros, a found verdict and a hezen vengeance who teabag every time they get a kill. I'll get Dark Below but if they don't show more dedication towards properly refining the third of a game that we payed a premium price for, I'll just move on to a better game from a company that more closely resembles the company I though bungie was.

  • I play a warlock and red death is my main primary to use in all PvE. It only triggers regen, yes, but considering how quickly warlocks regen, it makes the perk really overpowered, especially for a solo player

    • Even if the health regeneration stops, it gives a buff for your reload speed which is pretty nice. Beginning and ending of crotas end are a breeze with it.

    • It's not as good after the exotic buff patch which actually nerfed the red death -_-

      • I would have loved if Red Death had a punch option where you could stab or slash with the rifle. Why is there a bloody bayonet on the rifle if its just for show? I mean I thought the description of the gun was awesome when you read that its ordered to be destroyed on site. What about an option to make different types of rounds that make your gun able to shoot Void, Solar, Arc, and Kinetic. At least this would make your weapon that much more diverse.

      • If it continued regenerating your health regardless of being hit, that would be enough to fix the perk.

        • Idk this gun can compete with anything and has pretty decent output and mag size which makes up for the low rate of fire but you are correct about that perk being sort of useless. For me I've been getting many kills with it only to be in amazement at the one time my health actually does regenerate. It's been so uncommon for me that I forget about the perk's existence.

          • I just fully upgraded my Red Death a couple days ago and used it in Crucible. I can say that the health regeneration perk does work; several times it really helped me in tight spots; it doesn't work well when you're fighting more than one enemy because they constantly keep your health down, but in a one on one fight it works great. I was able to sustain my average K/D in maybe 4 out of 6 or 7 games. Anyway, I think it's a good gun and I've seen the health regeneration perk in action, both in PvE and Crucible. One piece of gear that I feel has false advertisement though is Apotheosis Veil, the Warlock helmet that's supposed to regenerate your health after you activate your Super. I got it up to that perk, and every time I was taking a ton of damage and set off my Nova Bomb, I didn't see my health go up an inch even after all the shooting was done; this has happened both in Crucible and PvE. While for me Red Death works fine, but that helmet was a major disappointment.

          • You know, I think it is perfectly balanced. I think it is just an all around good gun. If you want the most out of it, try to boost your regen stats in the subclass tree.

            • This was the gun I took into my first raid, it was terrible. I was at Atheon and switched to a legendary scout rifle and suddenly my crit hits were better. The Red Death needs a rof boost and maybe a slight boost to impact. As for the health regen ... Oh well.

            • I don't know. I have it, but I can't use it for PvE. For normal leveled enemy without shields it may be fine, but when you get into high levels and shields it just doesn't do the damage you feel it should as an exotic. I use The Devil You Know or a Scout Rifle for my PvE runs. I don't do PvP so I'm not sure how Red Death does against other Guardians, but it could use some love (buff)..

              • In pvp it is a 2 shot kill of they are both in the head, this weapon doesnt need a nerf or buff, it is fine the way it is.

                • Yeah, it was my first exotic weapon, I mistakenly bought it under the impression that it was an auto rifle and then angrily discovered it was a three round burst after immediately hopping into pvp to try out my new badass autorifle. I have the last word and I know that may not be great comparison but in every situation that I would use the red death in the last word is just better

i have had red death for a long time it gives you a third of a health bar and your health starts regen immediately every kill, you just haven't payed attention and it is better than youthink, just practice more and you'll see.
