Destiny Story via a Fan Fic

Destiny Theory. I’ve brought you here to tell you the secret that they are after me for. It’s a big secret and the weight is daunting. I can hardly move; I’m paralyzed by the fear of being hunted. I’ve been around for a long time and I don’t think I’ll make the next rotation of the Sun. I feel the pull and sway of the planets now. They’re calling me and I’m ready to return to the galactic dust that my little light resurrected me from. But before then, I’d like to site you down and tell you my tale and let you decide for yourself. I know it’s a peculiar saying, since you’re already sitting down, but it’s just a saying. I’m going to take off your gag now, and untie your hands. Remember I was a level 50 Warlock and unfortunately you’re not – so don’t try anything; just relax and listen. I remember the City. I remember the wonder of my first ghost, my only ghost. I remember the questions that I had and never got answers to. I remember the search for those answers, and the subsequent banishment for getting those answers. Unfortunately for you, you too will have those answers soon. My search started on Jupiter – the Vex Capital City was amazing. The Vex have changed over time but they are still the same. They value knowledge above all else, and I had to go there to find an archive – an fountain of historical information; a neutral history. The victors is said to write the history books. Good thing for me the Vex still consider this war yet un-won. To the Vex this war started yesterday and their memory is crystalline; even after millennia every detail is remembered. I went to their citadel, a huge building in the center of the city that glows blue with an unknown energy. Protected by some of the most amazing war unit’s I have – still to this day – ever seen. Deep below the planet they keep their library protected as it were the Glitter vaults of the City in tenfold. I fought my way in and died many times to only be revived by my reluctant ghost. My ghost knew that to not help me was to resign itself to the inquisitive Vex, and was the only reason it cooperated. Self-preservation works wonders sometimes and I finally entered the library through sneak tactics rather then force – acquiring access for my ghost to download the library contents. That was my first mistake. Every alarm was set not by accident but intentionally. This I know because my ghost told me. He called me a heretic and said I deserved a traitor’s death and tripped every alarm he could find. I fought for days in a small hole I found in the wall. My ghost was luckier; a giant Minotaur three stories high grabbed the ghost and tore him right into two. His last words again accusatory: “traitor”. I had no idea why he called me this. I hadn’t seen the data yet. I was still trying to survive and not perish. My self-resurrection ability came to my rescue that day to no limit. I eventually finished off the assault teams with an exotic sniper rifle that I pillaged from a Vex Hobgoblin (although it did not look like any I had ever seen before). I downloaded the data to my kit and tried to transmit it to my ship. It seems Ghost act as a booster to transmissions to our ships. Without my ghost I needed to find a way to transmit to and more importantly transport back to the ship. I found this in facility in a dish array. More fighting, more tough times, but that’s another story. When finally back to the ship and avoiding, not one but two intergalactic chases (one from my fellow Guardians) I had gotten to the safety of the Rift where I was introduced to the King (this was a long time ago). The King tested my prowess against a Fallen house in the territory, to which his daughter would eventually exterminate their Kell and take over leadership of. Yes, the Fallen were around before the Traveler but were simply pirates at that time with no allegiances, but that’s another story. No, they don’t serve the darkness but revere independence, power and opportunity. Their society, their houses, are always looking after only themselves. I’m about to tell you about it; stop jumping forward. Servitors? They are simply mimics in the Travelers image as an attempt to get to his power. Have you heard nothing so far? Do I need to gag you again? OK, good – now relax and listen. More tea? I lived with the Awoken for years, and the King took me into his fellowship. I studied the records that I plundered from the Vex Citadel. I learned so much – to which the Awoken could confirm some. Other parts were new to even them and had to be evaluated and confirmed elsewhere. The truth is this. The Traveler has been around for millennia in stasis. We have been told that the Darkness has done this him, and to a certain point of view this is true. For those living in the dark, the light is their darkness. And so this is the case. The truth is this. The Traveler is the darkness. And to specify; the Darkness that collapsed our golden age is the Traveler. From the records of the Vex, I have learned the timing of events that had happened thousands of years ago. From the archives on various other planets I filled in the gaps. In the year 2757 the population of Earth had achieved enlightenment. A golden age lasted for the next 300 years. In that time the world was split into 3 to 4 major societies. Each governed under super-state of artificial intelligences, which controlled specific infrastructure and other ugly human needs. These are what we know as war-minds. However not all of them were responsible for security. In fact only two were: Rasputin and his counter part also called Rasputin. The Two Rasputins controlled an intergalactic standing army of androids. These are the Vex. One Rasputin was responsible for domestic security, the other external security. We had long before met a race of aliens called the Cabal. Our first interactions did not go well with the totalitarian Cabal who coveted our technology, causing occasional flare-ups at contested outer planet colonies. Yes, I will get to the Hive soon. Yes I know they are on the Moon and the Earth now, but they have been from the beginning of this conflict, please don’t interrupt. So to summarize, the Vex is the army of humanity still waging war on the Traveler, who invaded our space. The story of his landing on the Mars is an illusion. The Traveler has indoctrinated an entire race of resurrected soldiers as thralls. No I don’t mean Hive thralls, I mean you! Really? Well, before I stole you from your ghost, how many times had you said no to him? Not many, right? I didn’t think so. If your ghost told you to jump off a cliff, you would have absolutely done it I bet. Well, that’s a thrall my friend. Except, unlike the Hive thralls, the Traveler can’t take our ability to think for ourselves away: unless you let him – like the Speaker. The Speaker is the embodiment of the Traveler. And his sole job is to ensure that we Guardians stay on the path of servitude to the Traveler. Thus why my own people hunt me. Back to my story now, OK? Thank you. When the traveler was incoming, Rasputin saw this as an incoming threat. He communicated this to the other Minds and they decided that destruction was imminent and enacted their doomsday plan. Destruction of research facilities, most on Earth, would be a priority. Archival operations would be done to preserve key technology for later use by new generations of humanity. As the Traveler approached earth many people had become indoctrinated to his will. These people started to revolt against Rasputin forces. The outer planets were being invaded by the legions of the darkness: the Hive. Yes, the hive has been with the Traveler from the start, but respect none of his other servants. They are petty, cruel and jealous, and seek to be the Travelers only servants again. In response to this entire happening, all the population of the inner and outer planets were set to rendezvous at the Rift to wait until Rasputin destroyed the threat. Most inner planet ships didn’t make it due to Cabal and Fallen attacks. But those that made it to the Rift fortified their position and waited for a command to go back to earth from the stewards (the Vex) to rebuild. Outer planet colonist never made it to the rendezvous. The traveler was gathering his indoctrinated to his own City – a Citadel of his own. People were slowly being transformed into Hive like creatures although a full transition would take generations. Upon Rasputin getting a go ahead from his counterpart about successful extractions elsewhere, he blew the world apart. Incredible power from the ages disintegrated major cities and decimated the land. The Traveler however was not destroyed completely. He hunkered down and placed a shield over himself and his City and populace, but causing himself much harm. As such he was forced into a deep sleep. The traveler release his ghost, which are automations with one objective, setup a Royal Guard to protect the traveler while he is in stasis and to research ways the hurry the process. The colonists were stranded without a home now. As such they decided to settle in the outer rift, never forget, and return one day. These became the Awoken. Likewise the Jupiter colonies were intercepted before evacuation by a Race that has been fighting the Traveler for millennia. Rasputin still lives in the form of the Vex Minds. The other minds were destroyed early on. But, he is everywhere and nowhere at the same time in a distributive Vex networks. That’s why Vex are on most of our older colonies. They are not on Earth because the Army was never allowed to be on Earth and is why Vex still haven’t come back. Only the domestic units, called EXOs, which were smaller humanoid versions, which had autonomous AI of their own, were allowed on Earth. These units were later dissected and learned how to be revived and enlisted into the army of darkness. (cont'd)
