I Feel Cheated

I want to preface this post by stating that I have been a Bungie fan since the beginning, not halo mind you, but the MAC when you released two of the most amazingly written and complex story based FPS Marathon and Marathon II Durandal. It was playing those two videogames that I feel in love with the medium because of the stories it could tell. You then went farther and blew me away with The Fallen Lords and its sequel Soul Blighter, not only were you revolutionizing games but ruining entire genres for me, after those two story driven incredibly complex rts/rpg hybrids I could never enjoy another rts again. (Had to save the archers and grenadiers no matter what :) and the fact that you could kill soul blighter by healing him... GENIUS! I followed Bungie from that point on, never regretting a single purchase. I even own original copies of ONI and both TFL and TFL II as well as Marathon and Marathon 2 for the MAC (even though I can't play them anymore). I never regretted a single purchase of a game from you, until today that is. Destiny is nothing like your previous work, right now it doesn't even hold up to the material on its own packaging. You have no storyline to speak of, why do I go to the moon? What the heck is Rasputin? Why do we never hear about him again until Mars... and when we do it makes no sense. I feel like I am playing a game with a story equivalent to a Game of Thrones book a toddler has gotten to and ripped out huge sections of randomly. The content it not there. I heard the demo was only supposed to be 10% of the game, it was at least 40%. I have to compare this to either a fps - which you dont want me to do as recently I have had the experience of playing the new Wolfenstein and that storyline was good enough to make me tear up. When comparing content Wolfenstien had 20 hours of intense story driven single player content and levels with multiple ways to approach each enemy encounter. Or a MMO and you don't want me to do that either as I would compare it to either Wildstar or Guild Wars 2, both of which had individual personalized "meaningful" stories to play single player in the midst of the multiplayer game, as well as, a truly integrated world with group gameplay needed and done very well. Also on the content side of both these games they each had 80 + hours of NEW content with very little recycled places to visit or missions to do. I have tried to love this game, just look at the amount of hours I poured into it. The gameplay mechanics for the fps side are flawless. I am truly awed by the level of perfection. Yet that same perfection is ultimately damning when it comes to the rest of the game. No story, at least that makes sense, and no meaningful content, the little content that is here is incredibly grindy. I waited until now to say anything and to pass judgement but with the advent of the last update log you posted and all you talked about was the awful pvp and complete ignoring of the pve side of the game, and the pitiful DLC content coming I honestly have to say I feel cheated. The last time I felt this way was when Bioware released DA2 and ME3 I will not preorder anything from them again and I will not be preordering anything from you ever again, baring you fix the mess your pve game is in SOON, not two DLCs from now but starting with your next few weekly patches. You have my hard earned money already unfortunately that includes the two DLCs as I mistakenly bought the Limited Edition believing in your promises from your vidocs and own statements, none of which you have met yet. I know the Bungie I have followed for years can fix this. I know you can repair the damage, but by doing nothing but working on the pvp side you ignore your diehard fans the ones that know you as innovative storytellers and master world crafters. Please for the sake of your reputation, and your most loyal fans do right by us, fix the pve, repair the story, hell patch in new remastered story missions with new dialogue, something, anything, give me a reason to believe. As right now one of your most loyal fans is highly disappointed and feels like he was sold a lemon. I don't forget things like this, because of how Activision treated its employees I went over 8 years without buying a single game from them, only breaking my own rule to get Diablo 3 and now Destiny both because of the companies that made them. I know you can fix this, but to start doing so we need communication that at the very least acknowledges the current state of pve and some statements about what you are going to do to repair it. The question is are you still the same Bungie or is that Bungie dead and gone? The only way I know which one is real is determined by your answer or lack there of... Sincerely yours, A loyal fan.

  • they said that the beta was 18-23% of the game. i personally felt that was very accurate and that the final game had about 4-5x the content of the beta with about the same amount of story throughout and gameplay. i admit i wish there was more story or grimoire cards in-game, and i also wish there were more story missions. but for the first time out of the gate with destiny, i thought they created a rich new gaming landscape in several ways. i suppose i just was not surprised at all after playing the beta because i felt like i knew what to expect. maybe that was just me...
