My Eurogamer dot net interview reaction w/ positives not negatives.
A suggestion for future interviews is not to start with : Q "What, exactly, is in The Dark Below expansion?" A "There's going to be new armour, weapons and gear, including new legendary and exotic items for players to earn."
Then get to the meaty part, "There's a new vendor character in the Tower, with a pretty interesting story to tell, that you'll be able to experience and play through once you buy the DLC. Her name is Eris."
I'm sure the new gear and weapons are wonderful designs with great attributes, but that's not the first thing I wanted to hear about.
"The structure of the story in this expansion is different than the story in the core game. Looking at how the story plays and how we wanted to repackage it and reacting to fan feedback, we're taking a different approach to the story in this one. So it's going to be driven in a very interesting way for players, as you meet with Eris in the Tower and follow her guidance through the story."
I'm all for experimentation in how to narrate the story. I've seen the Thorn exotic story line, and for my own experience the Invective story line is pretty cool because the little quote blurb makes next to zero sense if you haven't completed the exotic bounty. I can't remember all the bits and pieces but did like how the "story" played out. If Eris becomes the home base for more variety story missions - not guard against 3 waves - for what is available now and possibly in the future of The Dark Below I'm for it. When more TDB story missions become available, you get a prompt to visit Eris.
I'm still rooting for ya Bungie. I don't want to ditch this game in 6 months. Oh and that "Dragon's Breath" rocket launcher looks like an A-10 Warthog mini-gun. Niiiiice!
