All about Jackolytes
Let's discuss this thing.
What is it, what does it do, how long does it last, is it one time use only, are there any hidden effects?
I'm currently at work and I'm curious.
If all it is is a consumable to change appearance, I think everyone is going to be highly disappointed. It could at least make rare or higher engrams drop more often, give a 4x multiplier to glimmer gains, increase chest rewards or give max stats (100%) to the player using it.
EDIT:
What we know so far -
1. 30 min consumable, from postmaster. Stack of 3. Just one.
2. Strange sounds can be heard while wearing it.
3. Pumpkinhead Does not work for everyone (glitchy)
4. Jackolyte sometimes drops from Hive enemies.
5. It changes your helmet into an acolyte Jackolantern.
6. Having completed the nightfall seems to be part of #3
7. Xur sells an extra item if you visit him after freshly using one. (Flight of shadows, changes respawn animation for 24 hours.)

5 RepliesI went to freehold station on mars down in the dark room. Then I waited until other guardians showed up and chased after them with a jackolyte on. A few pointed and shot/punched at me after running away from me. I don't know how many I really scared doing that, but I had fun so it was all good. After that I went to the hell mouth and trashed the place while listing to Rob Zombie's song "I'm your boogie man." Basically people just need to lighten up and have some fun with it. Unless your complaining because it didn't work for you. That is a understandable complaint.

1 ReplyI don't understand why everyone complains so much. I don't find it as a huge failure. I see it as a success. It intrigues me enough to want to collect some. And why does it have to make you better? Who cares! I just have fun playing the game for what it is. Enjoy the game instead of complaining so much. Nuff said.

Here is a pic to prove it: [url]http://imgur.com/MEPpAWJ[/url] You can only hold 5 in your vault and 5 on each person so max of 20. The drops are random so it could take a while, try finding a place where a bunch of hive majors are.

Jackolyte is basically a future jackolantern. The hive are undead.. as in evil spirits as in demons.. in tradtiditonal folklore the jackolantern was used to ward away evil spirts. So basically these are just to help scare away the baddies known as the hive. Does not really need any other speical purpose as in give more glimmer, give more mats, give more engrams. Not everything in a game has to have a special purpose. Guess you never played mmo games where on the holidays they gave you useless items that did nothing more than to be used for the sake of using it and being fun to do. in WoW you got pumpkin heads you could put on yourself or other players for halloween. they didnt really do anything else either.

3 RepliesI was passing by the original loot cave yesterday and in the cave was a bunch of bones with the option to use them, I clicked it and it said some spooky shiz, didnt have a jackalope or I woukd have tried it with that on to see if it had an effect. Dunno if they're related but it was cool to see, think it said "start burial chant" something like that

37 RepliesGonna say this nicely, you guys that think this item is stupid need to realize that there's a 99% chance it was a last minute idea. A Halloween event would've rocked, not gonna lie. But had they done one it probably would've gone all month or at least the last couple weeks. The game hasn't been out a year and they are probably brainstorming holiday ideas. When next Halloween rolls around and it's the same deal, then you have a right to complain. Consider this: WoW was out for YEARS before we saw the headless horseman and grinch. Give it time because you never know, maybe on Halloween we are suppose to investigate a haunted awoken vessel or battle a "hallowed" hive lord. Or maybe it'll be a year before we can expect this. But for you guys complaining, bungie didn't promise you anything for Halloween. So be happy you got anything at all you greedy kids

14 RepliesI'm currently trying to find these as drops from hive. 300 kills later I've only seen 3 wax idols and a silk codex... So far I tried the 3 yellow on earth, sword of crota heroic, lvl 14 summoning strike. Anyone have a clue?

If you wear it while talking to xur he sells a 24 hour consumable for one coin. I haven't done night fall, so I'm not sure what is does.

2 RepliesI think it may be tied in with the nightfall effect. If you already have the blue flames from the nightfall the jackolyte will not display on that character, however the effect does continue for the 30 minutes.

I found they only drop from yellow health bar hive and can only hold 5 in each inventory
