I was about to quit Destiny. Then I did VoG.

I took a week off of Destiny. I was considering quitting the game because of the dissapointing story, lack of interesting and dynamic characters and dialogue, and being forced to play PvP to finish certain exotic bounties(I loathe PvP, especially that of Destiny). I got back into town and my friends were doing VoG. So I said, sure. Hopefully it's fun and will make me stay. Well, it did just that. The variety, teamwork, 6 man fireteam, mystery and sheer epic nature of my surroundings had me in awe. I'm an old Halo fan and it LITERALLY brought me back to CE and and parts of 2. I was nostalgic and impressed simultaneously. It literally saved the game for me. So many others have documented the shortcomings of Destiny better than i. I won't attempt it. However, I want to encourage every PvE player not to give up on Destiny until you've attempted the raid. Find a fun team and go for it. You may bang your head aginst the wall a few times, but if you're like me, the rewards (which are FINALLY doled out IMMEDIATELY following the defeat of a boss or hard battle. Thus should have been mandatory through the game to combine rewards with action) will be worth your troubles. I want to give a shoutout to Luke Smith, lead designer of the Vault of Glass raid. You and your team did a masterful job and have become my reason for staying with Destiny. THANK YOU. I have attached a link. It is a long read, but it outlines a conversation between the he writer and Luke Smith. It explains why VoG is SO different from the rest of the game and doesn't feel grindy, to me, at all. It mentions how Smith's team was allowed to be nearly autonomous, and operate outsode the normal restraints of the standards set for the rest of Destinys PvE and story missions. I hope you all enjoy the raid as much as I did. PLEASE BUNGIE, ALLOW THE SAME FREEDOMS AND LIBERTIES TO THE OTHER DEVELOPMENT TEAMS THAT YOU AFFORDED THE VAULT DEVELOPMENT TEAM. It literally changed my game.

  • Agree 100% the raid is just fantastic. If the rest of the game was that good we'd see less people leaving. It's challenging enough to be interesting but not so impossibly hard that you end up hating life. I've never seen a "normal mode" raid so perfectly balanced. I could wish there was a tad less rng in loot distribution, but that's literally my only beef with it.

  • Yeah man, I just did it for the first time last night. It was awesome, nothing like what I expected after playing the rest of the game. We couldn't beat Atheon though, we were all new and had no idea what was going on. We'll get him next time.

    • The problem is its essentially one mission in a whole game. That's not enough to retain a good amount of PvE crowd. I ask you to consider taking steps to make this game go FFXIV, it needs that kind of love to last 10 years. I suggest not buying dlc right away and waiting until its discounted or free on PS+. For some reason Bungie thinks PvE is just fine right now, and think the only reason anyone is playing is PvP. They need to get their act together IMO. I'll be back when this game is VoG quality the entire game.
