Console players and MMO's.

My main problem with destiny is the players. I don't care if things are over powered, I don't care if there are glitches, I don't care if things work. All that can be fixed and slowly worked on to make a better game. Console players is what I hate about destiny. I've been a console player my whole life, never changed never will. But console players don't understand what an MMO or MMO like game is. Destiny is foremost an FPS with MMO characteristics. With the gameplay of an FPS but loot tables and experiences of an MMO. An MMO is supposed to have grinding, farming, random loot, and hard content. 90% of the fan base has whined about what makes these games so great. Farming & grinding: A key point in any MMO, the farming and grinding in destiny is no where near as bad as popular MMO's. It's what makes the games fun. Taking hours upon hours, days upon days, sometimes even weeks to work towards that one things you've been trying so hard to get. When you finally get it you are relieved beyond compare, the sense of accomplishment is amazing. But in destiny everyone complains it takes to long, people are cheating by loot caves and mob spawn farming. That's what it is supposed to be like! Engrams: Before the patch, getting a legendary engram was an amazing feeling, thinking you can't wait to go back to the tower to see what loot you have stumbled upon. Yes it was a sad time when you got a blue from it, but that's what made it so good. It made you want another and another and another until you finally got that legendary piece that you probably can't even use but who cares! It's a damn legendary! People expected these to be handed to them because you barely ever got anything from them. After the patch things got worse, legendaries were guaranteed, people were happy... For awhile. The patch was good and bad, one because you were guaranteed legendaries but also bad because that took away the sense of accomplishment. The worst was the fact people got upset that legendary engrams weren't guaranteed from the crypt arch. They were never a definite but was a high chance. Since then everyone has complained. You were given guaranteed legendaries from the engrams but got upset because you couldn't get them as often! That takes away all the challenge, that takes away all the excitement! What's the point of playing a game where nothing is exciting. Challenges: very few in the game at the moment. Probably the only things were the hard raid and some bounties. The bounties in the iron banner were a challenge. They were actually challenging. But due to people complaining they have made them easier as well. What is the point of a game if there is nothing hard to work for or achieve? Raid: meant to be the most challenging, most difficult but most rewarding instance in the game so far. I remember when it first came out, guns were found, armour was obtained, bosses were destroyed. All in the path of eager players wanting the best gear possible. Only for everything to be considered OP? Mythoclast, yes I have three of these beautiful guns, two legit and the other one cheesed. I obtained my first one before the patch, when it was a force of destruction. Players did not stand a chance against it, it ruined lives and friendships. It needed a nerf it did. But not how much it did, not how much everyone complained about it. It was supposed to be the gun of the game, the unobtainable and the destroyer of everything. Everyone complained because they couldn't get it themselves which has happened to everything. There are lots about this game people don't understand, it's supposed to take forever and things are not supposed to be given to you. Some things are over powered but you can always work around it if you used your head. My main argument is this. Console players shouldn't play games like this if they aren't ready for it. Every game we get given everything in like COD, Battlefield, majority of shooters and RPGS. Those games just levelling up gave you everything, this game you must put time and effort into. The game is going to get much better, bungie will slowly learn and improve. I love consoles and I'm a 100% console player, but they need to learn not everything is handed to them. Can't wait for even 1 person to say how wrong I am.

  • I personally like this game and I'm no stranger to the grind. Playing games like DCUO, Warframe, Borderlands, and the like. What makes Destiny frustrating isn't the random drops or engrams but the fact that the drop tables have nothing to do with the toughness of your enemies. You'd expect to get something good from tough opponents, even if it's a slight chance. I would spend hours or days fighting boss battles in hopes of getting something because I knew my efforts would be rewarded. This game offers no such reward. Even after finally getting a legendary engram, you're not guaranteed to get something good (shards & energies seems to always find me). So I ask, why bother replaying? What's the point of redoing missions in a harder setting if your chances are the same regardless? I hope to stick with this game because I really do enjoy it but not if my efforts are in vain.

  • I have no problem with the engram patch, if anything it made it more of an accomplishment to get a legendary engram because now they don't drop hardly at all. All my postmaster cryptarch packages have been nothing but blues and when I do get purples, they turn into energy/shards so when I do actually get a legendary weapon or armor it does feel like an accomplishment. Agree with everything else you have said here, most of the players whining and wanting nerfs or things easier wouldn't last 2 weeks in a real MMO game. Try running a raid or end game dungeon where you need 30 people to cooperate to get it done and then the boss might drop 1-2 loot items that everyone then has to roll for. Or a hardmode flashpoint where you need a certain item for a boss but he might drop something for another member of your party instead and you get nothing. It makes RNG look amazing in comparison. Can you imagine if the players on Destiny had to gather 20-30 people together to defeat a large world boss, that only dropped 2-3 items that everyone had to roll for? They really have no idea how easy they have it. Most of these exotic bounties can be done in a few days if you work at it where as in most MMOs for the really amazing "exotic" quality weapons and armor you have to grind for weeks/months before you can get it. I still remember there was an exotic level sword I wanted in WoW, just to get the materials I needed to build one of the parts for it took me nearly three months to get playing several hours a day. People in Destiny have no idea how easy or good they have it when it comes to getting gear, lol.

  • I think Bungie should have just marketed it as an MMO and adjusted appropriately. The end result was having features that felt like one, but a game that attracted the type of players who wouldn't play one. There's nothing wrong with Destiny, what's wrong is the preconceived notions that people had when they started playing.

"Console players is what I hate...I love console players" You are wrong because you seem to be confused by your love-hate relationship with console players. Joking aside... there it goes... You give too much credit to the players while Bungie is running the game. The nerfs are happening because they want to slow down any aspects of the game due to the lack of content until the next DLC comes out. For example , one of their priorities is that too many people completed the raid and have the Vex already. That's a problem because the raid was suppose to keep us hooked until the next DLC comes out. In order to slow things down they needed to nerf the Vex because it was too good there and make the raid harder. You see it all happening. Sure thing Bungie said it was a mistake about nerfing the PvE aspect " a bit too much" and they will fix it, meanwhile more time goes by. Players are complaining about many things but mostly asking for improvements, meantime Bungie execute their plan by keep on nerfing. Hopefully by the next DLC they have figured out what the player base really wants and give us enough content so there is no need for stalling.

I'm MMO player. 100% console. Have been for years. From Phantasy star, all the way back on the sega dreamcast, DCUO, defiance( 3rd person MMO), FFXIV( still have an active subscription) and I'm all FOR the grind. Destiny was watered down to cater to the kiddies for easy money. I prefer the grind for various tiers of my gear. As long as there IS progression, and not relying on pure luck to advance in level. Aka RNG

      • Destiny is so half-assed. It tries to be an MMO, but fails so hard. It's the jack of all trades, but master (even apprentice) of none.

      • You are wrong. You're not a 100% console player because you're familiar with the driving factor behind MMO's, whereas a Halo junkie would just cry on the forums.

        • It's true. Although I love playing "Destiny", after almost 5 days worth of playtime, I am not sold on the MMORPG elements. I would trade all the exotic loot in the game for a simple, big team battle playlist.
