To all these people calling for Shotgun Nerfs, I think I have a reasonable solution.
I want to first say that the shotguns do NOT need a nerf.
In all of Bungie's past games, they had a similar and relative damage output and they were great......no one was complaining then. But why?
The answer is because, in Halo, you had to find and pick up special weapons at specific spawn points and the ammo was very limited. There would be a scramble to get the ammunition/weapon and then a couple minutes where those people rained hell on others. The 'Special Ammo' actually felt special, when you finally got a chance to use it and had a limited batch.
To avoid everyone simply/exclusively using a shotgun and, inevitably, taking away from the "tactics" of PvP, all that would need to be done is a minor limitation of the ammo.
Now hear me out: imagine in the first 2 minutes of each match (rather than spawning with enough to get you to the first 'Special Ammo Drop') no one started off with special ammo at all. The only 'Special Ammo' would be found in a crate, in a neutral location on the map. In simpler terms: no initial spawning with special ammo. Immediately, people would have to use a different gun, value the ammo location/drops (instead of the 40 that show up every minute) and it would actually be a 'Special Weapon.'
It would make guns like the Invective, the Ice Breaker, etc, TRULY exotic. It would add a whole 'hot zone' to the early stages of each game.....but most of all, it would put some shotguns away until the people actually find ammo.
All that has to be done is a limitation on ammo, and less people will be running around recklessly.....essentially playing Tag.
Edit: for those who love it the way it is, I would suggest a new game mode entirely: All players spawn with ammo in each category, supers/grenades/melee recharge much faster, ammo crates are everywhere and I give you...........(wait for it) "Chaos."

I think it should drop as does the heavy ammo. Special ammo incoming - would stop the campers argyle start with snipers and shot gun rushers just running the whole game with a shotty.

I agree that the shotguns are fine. If you don't wanna get one shot by a shotgun then maybe you should be standing away from the barrel. sprinting straight into a persons face without being sure what gun they are currently wielding is just asking to be blasted in the face with a shotgun.

I don't use shotguns, but I would suggest to those complaining about them to try not putting your faces in them.

My best friend and I were discussing the same thing. Special ammo need to be reduced to actually make it special. Right now, people are using their secondary weapons as primary weapons because they can due to an over abundance of ammo. I also agree with the new game mode where everyone starts with a super and sulk ammo for all weapons, with increased ammo drops. Great idea, keep it up!

3 RepliesThat won't affect the Universal Remote at all and it's probably one of the most overpowered shotguns in PvP. It's a primary shotgun that takes primary ammo. It's ability is insane. Once you scope in range and precision increase greatly while aiming down the sights and if you turn on snapshot you become wicked. This is a good solution but there's circumstances that allow weapons like the Vex Mythoclast and the Universal Remote to get away with this.

Suggested that long ago. Kids will cry, and nothing will change since Activision has a fetish for small maps and catering to kids so they can run around one shotting each other. As I said before they think shotguns are bad in Destiny don't even play BF4.

In Halo, you also couldn't teleport yourself into shotgun range.

1 Reply"LESS" special ammo - not zero Bigger Maps - and you may want to include fusion rifles. Bungie has all the stats - they know exactly what is wrecking and what isn't. I hate shotgun sliders/blinkers and fusion users - but I have the choice to use them like they do or not. I'd prefer no nerfs.

True the shotgun has limited range, but the levels are small and the methods of movement in the game are insanely quick. Someone blinks through my hail of gunfire from a machine gun and then lands on my head and one-shots with shotgun. Along those lines, and perhaps in combination with your ammo spawning idea, i think a "classic" mode with only single jump, and with special and heavy both being pickups would be fun. Give everyone a basic grenade and even out all the classes. No blink, glide, shoulder charge, etc. Lets just shoot each other. Not saying it should all be like that, but it would make for a fun game mode....

14 RepliesNo. Why would I want to have just 1 weapon... because that's what you just did. You are calling for me to have 1 weapon in my inventory? Learn to use active radar. If you can do that then shotguns aren't an issue. If you can't, you don't deserve to post on these forums.

9 RepliesOr how about this: there is an area of the map where you can pick up a special weapon synthesis, the weapon when picked up will automatically be whatever special you have equipped. This will make it a race to get the weapon. And multiple will spawn on corners of the map.

So if shotguns are so awesome and unstoppable just use a shotgun like everyone else? In my pvp shooter experience it's usually the less skilled that use shotguns exclusively and usually the lesser skilled that complain about it.
