I thought of that within the first hour of playing the game with a sparrow, I'm on board all the way

Sparrow racing, if done well could be just the hook to tide people over in between DLC, too. The game needs some sort of in game diversion from the usual grind. So, how do we do this? My suggestion would be to normalize all sparrow speeds and durability. The rarity of the vehicle would then tie into how many non-cosmetic upgrades it can be fitted with. Some upgrades could be sold by Xur same as they are now, and the rest would be sold by a vendor in the shipyard section of the tower for race credits. Race credits are earned via PvP races or possibly even by PvE race missions. Non-cosmetic upgrades could include Speed increases, durability increases, small shields (for limited durations, unless combat racing becomes a thing!), handling boosts, pike style front mounted guns (again only for combat racing), jump jets (for avoiding obstacles), and passenger seats (for combat racing or rally type races where the passenger acts as the navigator). Cosmetic upgrades could include Shaders, Emblem decals, Sponsor Decals (all rep gains go toward the faction who's decal you are using), boost colors, underglow, weapon and shield colors, and Jump jet 'Hydraulics' (either just for lols or possibly as part of a mounted dance animation) PvE Race mission ideas * The Hive are pouring out of the loot cave and farmers are in desperate need of ammunition! Quick, hop on your sparrow and deliver these supplies to them before they're overrun! * A working golden era relic has been recovered but the strike team that located it are pinned down by enemy fire. Can you and your trusty sparrow break through the gauntlet and bring it home? *Some dregs are joy riding pikes across the moon that have been outfitted with a new prototype boost accelerator. Get up there and confiscate one and bring it back in one piece for the shipwrights to study! * A guardian has been critically injured and is in danger of bleeding out. Carefully navigate your way to her ghost and bring them both back to safety! If you guys can think of any I'd love to hear them!

The way the sparrows speed is right now, based on rarity, they need better customization. Didn't they say something like sparrow shaders in the DLCs or coding or something? youtube shall answer.
