Destiny is not made for anyone with a job or family

I stuck with Destiny for a while. I defended Bungie through many changes and updates. But as time goes by I see a pattern here. A pattern that is edging me, and others like me, out of Destiny entirely. Who are "other like me"? People with careers and families. I feel like Bungie is looking at a small audience with many of the patches. I think Bungie is slowly edging out the gaming community that has money to spend; ya know, people who work full time jobs and have families that do not have 6+ hours solid several times a week to play this. I wish I could get my expansion money back because I am certain not to play it now. I hate that I fed Bungie money to do this to us. They will not get one more dime from me now that I know that they do not care about my type of gamer. They apparently cater to the "I can game for 10 hours a day" crowd. Yeah, I know, people are going to jump all over this and claim they are super elite gamers that got to level 28 and defeated VOG on level 30 with under 20 hours of gameplay. But ya know what? Ya'll are not the majority of players. I congratulate your gaming powers, but realistically you are not the market share. And before people start calling me a casual gamer or farmer, use the Bungie app and Xbox tools to actually look at my stats. I am not a farmer, I am not a "casual gamer". I just happen to have a job and a family so I can do things like drop $90 on a game and its DLC. I feel totally excluded from this game because I simply CANNOT play for hours and hours on end every day. I can do 3-4 hrs a day on weekdays and 6+ on weekends, but every update makes me feel more and more like Bungie is making sure that if I am not truly "hardcore" AND jobless I can't enjoy Destiny. When friends or coworkers ask me about Destiny I tell them it isn't enjoyable unless you can sink an incredible amount of time constantly into the game. If you have any life at all, the game quickly becomes boring and unenjoyable because all the patches are about catering to this small community of people who have tons of time to play. This prevents most people who have families from even giving it a try. Bungie needs to get its priorities straight. Until they do, I am done with Destiny entirely. I will gladly spend my hard earned money giving it to Ubisoft, Rockstar or Bioware who seem to understand people have to have a job to pay for their game content.

  • Dude, I have like an hour maaaybe two on weekdays and about 3 hours a day on weekends. It was enough for me to be able to get my hunter up to level 29 with maxxed legendary/one exotic armor piece. That took like a month and a half as a very casual player. Just spend the hour each day to do daily heroic, one public event at gold, and however many bounties you can. Between the Vanguard packages in the mail (from ranks 3+in Vanguard) and all the mats from the dailies you can max out easy. I haven't raided and probably won't but there's plenty to do with even limited playtime. I just can't feel much sympathy for this kind of complaint.

  • I love all these B.S. replies from people claiming to have it worse and still pwning the game. You realize your wives are being railed by other guys and your kids are in in the other room chatting with sex predators, right? Yeah, that's what I thought....

    • You type several paragraphs of complaints without even giving examples of what you're exactly complaining about. Because right now it seems that the patches are making the game more casual-friendly to me with the weapon nerfs. Give me an example that shows otherwise.

    • Disagree I'm a 27 year old guy with a career that frequently takes 12 hours out of my day. When I go out of state to train, Destiny does not come with me. When I go out with friends, the game stays home not getting played. In my clan we have a full time college student, a stay at home dad, a diesel mechanic who is going to school as well, and several other guys who are mostly employed and have significant others. The three 18 year old kids who have hours to play are getting more and better gear but that's cause the play a lot. Why shouldn't they be rewarded? But one thing is for sure, I don't feel like Bungie screwed me at all.

      • Destiny is a part time job. Log in daily to get shards in the daily public event and daily story mission: 1 character and maybe you can do it in 20 minutes but you really need 3 characters to get max shards so that's at least 60 minutes. An then there's crucible/ and the vanguard bounties each day. So add another hour PER character each day. So just that could be 4-5 hrs daily. Then comes Tuesdays. Weekly nightfall- maybe 45 minutes per character Weekly strike for coins - maybe an hour since they don't have Element burn And the raid maybe 2 hours per character depending on setup, organization with friends, and skill levels. We can say 3 characters on both weeklies (strike and nightfall) is almost 6 hours plus another 6 for 3 raiding and add the daily on that day so just one day could be 15 hours. So it's ALOT of time. You can says that's good to keep folks entertained or bad because it's hard to keep up. And I say 3 characters because that's the only way to get the maximum amount of materials to stay competitive in leveling up your weapons and gear. It's ALOT of work.

        • My biggest leveling complaint is the need for 10-15+ helium, relic iron, spirit bloom, etc per "box" to upgrade your equipment. I need to start doing more dailies for shards and that is doable. But walk around patrol and look for chests/materials? Not so much. I'll pass on that thank you. Might start to PVP more because of the number of faction vendors. I don't mind grinding strikes so much as there is the handy "progress" bar showing the cap for the week and it's a way to garuntee yourself some gear. I definitely prefer PVE but so far it is a bit lacking in depth.

          • Actually the problem with this game is that it's specifically made for casuals, and every update has been catered to whiny, crybaby casuals.

            • So you bought a game and think its taking too long? Not a common complaint these days... Most people find games to be too short. Just something to consider.

              • I left destiny myself, and I totally agree with ya. The game is nothing but a grind fest. If you want gear you got to grind for hours!! what working man has time for that garbage. Grind for 3 hours and get nothing to show for it. Or replay the same strike 10 times to try to get better gear to level up.... I moved on to DIABLO 3 ;)

                • I have to disagree. I have left the game already but I believe this game caters to casual gamers. Unless you pay the PvP in Destiny there's not really anything worth doing after 20 hours. I mean sure you can replay the raid over and over til you get the raid gear but why? The loot system was designed to give the "illusion" of content. But I wasn't fooled, not worth it. Just not enough fun (I don't like the PvP). So if you only have 5-10 hours a week or you just love the PvP then Destiny is perfect for you. Casual PvEers and PvPers is what they care about.

                • Really disagree , if you play 3-4 hours a day you will have the same playtime as me wich have 2 level 30 and a 29 and dont get me started about guns or exotics as the only problem i have is vault space .... I am not a single case aswell as 4 people from our 6 ppl clan have at least 1 lvl 30 carachter . Raiding ? Hell yeah first time took a whole weekend and second time a day ... Nowdays we do the raid on hard in like two hours ... Only one advice for you stop cryin in forums and go shoot some minions of the darkness . Ooh yeah before you start im 33 have two kids a wife and a job ... Damn noobs just want everything without effort . Just go play a game where you can buy anything by adding credits to your account . I think that is what you r looking for ... Try wow

                • I understand what you are saying , most console owners are not hardcore gamers ( most I said ) . Now pc gamers yes but Bungie made this a console only game . I have many friends on PSN and I myself and other friends and even younger friends tend to have to find the time to game due to school jobs kids etc . Yet this game does require a lot of time to advance threw , even if you get your gear it still has to be leveled up and this takes a lot of time. Yes I know raid is a quick boost but getting everybody together and actually getting threw the raid can be difficult for some players, yes I know se of you out there are masters and you have your group were everyone in your team is a veteran vault runner well some of us do not . So I agree it is a time eater with little reward for playing just to grind for some ascendant shards or gear . Also I feel it's completely useless right now anyway ,why do I need to level up to 30 just to do the same missions over and over . The game has trailed off until new missions . In other words what's the point of being level 30 right now .

Sorry I don't agree, I work 54 hours a week and have a family and I'm Lvl 29 with a decent selection of gear, hell you only need to do weekly's once and your daily's and bounties and you will do ok. I normally spend an hour or two in the evening after everyone has gone to bed/settled down to watch tv I sneek off to play Destiny till about midnight then hit the sack, maybe it's because I'm older I need less sleep but I get 5 to 6 hour of sleep and I feel fine. Also days off when no family/friend stuff to do is a good time to catch up. Also if you work on a second character it will be easier in the long run as you can do weeklys more and put materials in warehouse for your main.

                • This is very true, fortunately for myself I work for myself and my wife is presently working away during the week which affords me a reasonable amount of play time, however I am victim of the other exclusionary functionality of the game which affect our demographic. That being the lack of matchmaking for the end game content. I'm 32 with a wife as are most my gamer friends, luckily a fair few have both ps4s and destiny, so I can quite often grab one friend to play with. But as everyone has different schedules and different play times getting 3 at same time is hard...getting 6 for the raid is practically impossible. Thus locking me out of a good portion of the games best content, and increasingly more as they introduce more raids, as well as their frustrating decision to make the raid the only route to the level cap. It's really rather alienating.

                  • I stopped playing for the same reason. Getting light to go beyond level 20 is cumbersome and playing PVP is very unfair. I like the stories and the raids with friends, but gearing up is complicated and time consuming. I like Destiny, specially the solid gameplay mechanics, but I wish it gave me alternate options to level up without having to play long hours.

                  • Not really following you here. The way I see it, if your goal is just leveling to 30, it's just luck and playing the raid once a week. You can also do te weekly heroic for the strange coins but that's just once (1-3) a week. Unless you're grinding for marks, nothing really takes time except waiting for a decent roll. Basically what I'm saying here is that this game, if nothing else, was built for people who don't have time. In any other game like this,(roughly) you wouldn't be getting legendary and exotic gear in the first 2 months. Typically, a loot/quest game will have certain missions that hve a chance to drop or reward certain pieces of gear. Seeing as there are a very limited number of missions in this game, even with patrol(patrol missions a joke beside the ones that you just kill enemies....sad) bungie decided to get "creative" and just make those same activities offer pretty much every and any piece of gear in the game besides raid stuff. An really the only thing keepin the raid from being time efficient is lack of matchmaking. I could see not wanting us to use it at first but since info on the raid has become more commonly known, matchmaking wouldn't be unusable. Anyway this game doesn't actually take any time. You can level to 24 in like 20 game hours easily and the rest is just more luck and raiding. If they wanted to cater to people who play more, there'd be tons more content, gear would be harder to get, and id be able to earn marks and strange coins to my hearts content without waiting for weekly resets.

                    • Sorry, but this game was always targeted to teenagers that have nothing better to do all day and have parents that give them money to shut them up and leave them alone. Bungie target is not grown ups in mid to late twenties with a family.. sorry but for the grown ups stick to something like Alien Isolation. I find that game far more exciting and I dont need to spend hours farming the same crap to get gear... because there IS NO GEAR.. only FEAR!
