Customized Equipment Suggestion

Intro Current customization options for end game especially for PVE severely limit customization options both visually and functionally. This proposal is to allow players to create customized gear sets by using the existing reputation vendors, skins, and equipment to allow players to further customize their characters. Each reputation vendor would be given armor and weapon “shells” or “skins” at an appropriate tier that would provide a blank template that could be used to generate a new piece of equipment. The base piece of equipment would apply only the visual appearance of the item and the basic stats for weapons. Other pieces of legendary gear could then be salvaged to apply the desired stat/perk/max item level on to an applicable slot on the new piece of equipment. Alternatively, players could be given the option to hollow out an existing item, removing all of the stats and turning it into a skin. Example Warlock player really likes the appearance of the New Monarchy, but finds +STR to be relatively useless for itemization and wants to maintain level 30 for PVE raiding. Player achieves appropriate faction reputation and purchases Body armor skin from the New Monarchy vendor for some arbitrary Crucible mark cost. The item is unusable, has 0 base armor, and provides no stats and no perks. Player visits the Armor smith and clicks on the piece of equipment he wishes to modify. He selects equipment level under the modification option and selects “Cuirass of the Hezen Lords” (LVL 30 Raid armor). A box pops up asking the player they are sure of the selection and informing him that the item will be destroyed in the process, the player hits accept. The item now displays a starting Light of +20 (maxing out at +30) and the basic armor upgrades and costs become visible in the item detail page. Next the player decides that he wants the item to have Intelligence/Discipline, he selects the “Nerigal Savant III” chest armor from his inventory and hits accept. The item now shows +20 light, +65 Intelligence / + 65 Discipline and the old legendary is destroyed. Next, the player decides that he wants the item to carry more ammunition for scout rifles, his weapon of choice. He selects the “Queens Guard Robes” chest armor, and the Scout rifle perk, and hits accept. The item now shows +20 light, +65 Intelligence / + 65 Discipline, and the increased scout rifle ammo perk. Finally, the player decides that he wants the armor to have increased special weapon ammunition capacity. He selects another “Cuirass of the Hezen Lords” (this dude is lucky) and hits accept. The item is now complete and needs to be leveled as normal to make all of the upgrades active. ---------- This would require some new tech on the part of the developers, but would go a long way towards allowing players to further customize their characters and give them something else to work on to optimize and keep them busy. It would also remain relevant with each game update as new equipment becomes available
