Patrol missions meant for something bigger?!

I have noticed since the very first time I played through a patrol mission that something wasn't quite right. You can acquire different patrol missions from different factions; Future war cult, new monarchy, and dead orbit. So why can't we earn rep for those factions along with vanguard rep for completing these patrol missions for the specific factions!? I cannot be the only one who has thought of this!

  • I'd like to be able to do more than 1 patrol mission at a time. While I'm killing enemies for one mission, I could be trying to get to a certain location to scan something.

    • Yeah I only noticed this for the first time last week and thought it was strange. I was thinking more along the lines of faction specific missions which could include doing faction specific patrols as a part of them. (Maybe to unlock access to locked ranks or as a part of a mission chain for equipment you can only get from completing that mission)

What? You earn rep for one faction OR the vanguard for doing patrols. You can not earn multiple reps at once unless an event like the Iron Banner is going on and you're doing Iron Banner specific tasks. Whatever faction (or Vanguard) is represented by your class item is who you're earning rep towards. This may be confusing because the patrol missions make zero sense story wise regarding the factions, much like in the crucible. If rumors are true, factions played a much bigger role in the game prior to the head-writer leaving a year before release and every storytelling element of the game received a dramatic overhaul.
