Changes To The Loot System (Possible Fix To AFK)

Pasting this from another thread I replied to. Thought it deserved it's own, and expanded on a bit. The easiest way to fix the AFKers is to have the bosses drop loot directly, instead of having the end of match screen do it. Same with players in PVP, have loot drop directly from the corpses of Guardians. The higher your score the higher the chance for a drop, with the rarity of the drops determined by kill streaks. Didn't kill anyone? Didn't move at all? Oh well, nothing for you then except Marks, which have a cap. RNG would still be in place, but would now reward people based on their performance/particaption. The less skilled (in PVP, myself included) or the lazy (AFKers) would still be able to purchase gear from vendors, and progress through the game, it'll just take longer. There are Glimmer Consumables (Ether Seeds, and the like) that are already in the game, so I suggest that Grimoire Cards be added for these items (if they don't exist already) that can be leveled up to increase the drop rates when killing the associated badguys. Since Bosses would now drop rewards directly, AFKing during Strikes would be reduced (if not eliminated) by having players physically pick up the reward that would count as completing a Bounty (such as Complete Strike Without Dying). End of Match screens could then reward players with something specific to that Strike (like the Eye of a Gate Lord) that can be turned in for a reward, as well as upgrade materials (giving anti-farmers another way to collect them), and the possibility of another Engram drop based on that players performance during the Strike/Match. So, what say you Guardians? Am I on the right track, or should Ghost have left me in the junkyard?

  • AFK: An AFK "kick" timer might be possible - if the player has not moved in a set amount of time he is removed from the instance. Alternately a "Hit" counter (1 hit to register you are in contact with the boss) could work to verify involvement, this might even be possible in PvP if applied correctly. I am also a firm believer in the Boss Drop awards, which I think this game could use. I hate the slot machine method of loot and would rather see it in game. Grimoire cards do already award additional materials by location, enemy and activity, but I think you are saying for it to be more specific to the actual item, more like focused farming. I could see that as well as long as the boost was balanced.
