Anyone here remembers the rule "Non-moving player facing walls means AFK -> Do not frag!"
I wonder sometimes, when this rule and sportsmanship got lost in the gaming world.
In the beginning of the FPS multiplayer era, there was an unwritten rule, saying: "If a player is not moving and faces a wall, he is afk for a moment and therefore its gunmanship to frag him then!". You just moved on than and looked for other victims.
I already played games, where this rule was respected. Of course it is not applicable to game modes where the opponent has to be decimated without respawn, like regular Counter-Strike or things like "Last Man Standing", but no matter what game mode I am playing the last years, the rule is absolutely abscent and nobody seems to care about it. I think it became obsolete, when all this tactical shooters came up and it's easier to apply in TDM or DM.
I just wanted to know, how many people even had contact with this former unwritten law in their gaming history and what you think about it.

Considering I've heard many people online talking about how they have no problem AFKing in Crucible due to the reward chance being the same, I've got no problem with killing anyone AFK as soon as I see him. The Crucible is no place for mercy.

Started with Doom (and a serial link cable....)... so of course I know the rule... But in Destiny you can get something even if you're not doing anything, so there's quite a big chance that the AFK-guy is just farming the crucible, so I'm farming him.... And I mostly play control, I have to help my team.... every kill counts...

I remember this but all that went away when the console FPS started to take over. Back on PC where FPS was born,raised and a pillar of the gaming community this rule was followed most of the time. Written or not. Now? AFK=A Free Kill. There is no other way of saying. It's one firefight you don't have to worry about taking a bullet from,so it makes that k/d stat look just a little nicer so that your friends will agree with how leet you are.

Never head of it but then again I haven't been playing FPS until cod waw. When I go afk I expect to come back dead (maybe even a few times depending on how long).

I remember this "unwritten rule" but that was 10-15 years ago. The world has changed. If I see someone AFK in Crucible, I'm killing them. I have no qualms about doing so because, while I respect that emergencies may happen, they're still in a combat zone and they, by virtue of queuing for the game mode, stated their intention to participate in combat. So they're fair game, AFK or not. If I have to go AFK for whatever reason (and I have, unavoidable bathroom break or cat-breaking-something issue) then I expect to come back and be dead.

Yeah, I think though since we can sit that if you sit down somewhere safe will mean you're afk as well.

If you go AFK during a pvp match you deserved to die over and over and over like the lame ass you are.... no exuses for going afk.... if you have to step away from the control leave the match

Ah unwritten rules. I also stare at the pitcher after hitting a home run in baseball just to let him know that he's a punk.

Why the hell wouldn't they just RTO and join the next game? If they get fragged from going AFK, that's their fault. There's no "honor code" to indicate otherwise.

That was before this bullshit of "Only weakest players get best rewards!" I see spread across the forum. I am now obligated to kill anything that proceeds to stand still long enough to make it a target because they're participating whether they like it or not.
