Girl Gamer Explains: Why Crucible loot drops are RNG

Before I get started, I want to be clear that I'm NOT directly endorsing the design of PvP loot rewards, merely providing what I think is Bungie's logic and because it is CLEARLY a mechanic that's still bothering people. I honestly think they have PvP gear rewards totally random as a bit of a social experiment because what it does do (aside from piss people the -blam!- off) is: 1. Reward anyone, regardless of skill level, for trying out PvP. Carrot meet stick...*nom nom nom*. 2. Attempt to eliminate tryhard multiplayer arguing over kill steals, KD reps, and all that dumb internet epeen measuring. 3. Attempts to make the focus of the gameplay the most interesting thing about the experience. Not just a means to a reward. This is why the dude that went 2 / 25 will get a shiny Exotic despite your dominant 30 / 10 massacre. Winning is rewarded via Marks and Rep, NOT loot drops in the current system. EDIT: I've been silent about a lot of the blatantly hostile misogyny and insults but trust that it's being reported. You ARE responsible for your actions and if you don't like this thread, you're not obligated to post in it. Insulting myself and others is a flagrant violation of the user agreement and code of conduct for the site.

I'm sorry, but "social experiment" or not, the RNG loot system is trash. And no, saying "you get marks and experience for winning" is not sufficient to balance out the sheer BS the loot system puts out. You get 3 marks for winning. You get 2 marks for losing. Experience proportions are roughly the same. So a player can start up the Crucible, poke at the controller every few minutes while they binge watch youtube, and there's only a marginal difference between their guaranteed reward and that which is gained by the player who gives 100%, leads the charge, and puts on a dominant performance. And the sick joke of it all is that the person doing absolutely nothing, in spite of the alleged "randomness" has statistically proven to receive not only more loot drops, but BETTER loot drops than the people who actually put forth an effort. Which begs the question: what is the point of trying? By the time you hit the Mark cap you'll have the same number of marks and the same amount of experience as the "try hard" and a much better haul of post-match loot not only by virtue of having "played" 16 more games than them but also because the current "system" (if it can be called that) has proven time and time again that doing piss-poor (or absolutely nothing at all) will get you ALL the best loot. Seriously, there was a "player" who had no kills, no assists, no medals, didn't even put forth any help on acquiring a single Control point, and this person got a piece of exotic armor (rare enough, but even more rare because it was actually for the class he/she was using) AND a legendary weapon (not just an engram that would probably turn into a coin or mote). I got curious enough to dig into this player's stats and here's the rundown: Low level, means they haven't invested much time in the game. Exceedingly low Grimoire, means they haven't really done squat with what time they have put into the game. Abysmal PvP AND PvE stats, so not only have they done very little in the game, they don't even do it well. But they get exotics and legendaries while people who have invested the time, put in the effort, in short actually PLAY THE DAMN GAME get nothing. And I don't mean "worthless junk" nothing, I mean literally NOTHING. So yea, not only is the "system" complete garbage, even the explanations for why the system even exists do nothing for it. It needs an overhaul. Desperately. You want to argue that winners get more marks and experience it's just not displayed so it only seems like they're not getting anything? I'll lay it out bluntly, they need to be getting more than a marginal increase over the people who do absolutely nothing for it to make any difference. Winners get 4 marks, losers get 1, perhaps. Or how about winners are guaranteed at least ONE quality post-match loot item plus the RNG factor to decide if they get anything else while losers get the RNG treatment with a greater probability of getting nothing. Winning should feel like winning, and there should be more to it than just the feeling of having won. And this is coming from a guy who actually kinda hates competitive multiplayer altogether (I know, I know, "dude you don't like competition? Turn in your man card right now, it's been revoked") and has avoided the Crucible on all occasions unless an exotic bounty demands participation. The spoils of war should go to the ones who actually fought and won. Just saying.
