I think Activision forced an early release so the game would flop in time to force players to their other upcoming titles like cod.
Pushing players to play their other games will make them more money.
Its all about money.

.....no sir, you are barking up the wrong tree.
-
Eh, I think Activision is generally quite greedy but I doubt there's some deep conspiracy to it. Plus,... Bungie aren't the Gods of game development. They can make mistakes without the influence of some greater evil ;p
-
LOL at all the people saying this is a "smart" business strategy. Clearly your grasp of how business works is very...VERY skewed
-
I believe the strategy may have been: •Release Destiny (in the form we have today) before Advanced Warfare. -The Bungie fans, long time vets, will purchase and so will the Call of Duty fans, due to the Activision name. •Release Advanced Warfare (Inevitable Cash Cow) -Call of Duty fans will quickly move on to the next installment, leaving Bungie fans with Destiny, and most likely when we will begin to see more "Free" content being patched in to Destiny. •Release Destiny DLC -Slightly more casual Call of Duty player will purchase and come back in a moment of weakness. •Release Advanced Warfare DLC (Most Likely March) -AW picks back up.. Destiny takes the back burners for more "Free" Content.
-
All I heard was "Activision conspiracy". I'm in
-
Activision is a company. Company's are about business. Business is business. $$$$$$$$$
-
There is an Activision conspiracy for sure, but this isn't it at all.
-
All about money? But... I thought corporations and publishers only cared about the gamers :c -sues EA for emotional distress
-
its all business.
-
It actually got delayed so Bungie could have more time to cut out content
-
Simple. You dont destroy a new potentially lucrative IP. To boost sales of one that is already ridiculously successful And sabotage lucractive DLC You want both to succeed and grab a larger part of the demographic Im just saying it was intentional. It might happen but that was because if blind greed. Not brilliant strategy The ideal situation is you have two wildly succesful franchises
-
Regardless of your dissatisfaction"I am too"),tge game didn't flop because it was a financial success.

-Destiny is on a 10 year contract -Destiny has DLC coming out shortly after the new CoD Were someone to ship a stinker, knowing it to be a dud, with the intention of inciting discontent, they would not have made both contractual and monetary investments in its long term future. They would let it sink, and have planned for it to do so. Also, if you had even taken business 101 at any college campus anywhere you would know this notion is ridiculous. Yes, when you say it the way you say it, it makes sense, but when you look at all the pieces of the puzzle, unassembled and still sitting in the puzzle box, you realize that what you've made looks nothing like the picture on the front, and it was mere coincidence that the pieces fit together at all. Think first, mislead idiots second.

COD coming out will make Destiny better When all the hardcore COD players leave Or at least make these forums better
-
I could tell you
-
Game didn't flop
-
How does this make any sense? I like rpg's. If Destiny is bad (which, I don't think it is), why would I buy CoD? I would just buy another Rpg.
-
THAT MUST EXPLAIN THE REASON WHY WE GOT A SHADER IF WE RESERVED ADVANCED WARFARE!!!! Mind blown.

Edited by BillClinton69x: 10/23/2014 4:42:49 AMHmm... hear me out. They knew that destiny sales would be good no matter what. As a result, they botched destiny to still generate sales from it, but to push people to buy cod. This is kinda smart.... some kids might not get it.
-
Why flop and not sell a crap load of DLC?
-
It's funny that they delayed this game by almost a year.
-
Let's face it, Activision are not stupid. Far from it. 1: They knew they would get their money back within days of this games launch, what with Bungie's name on it. 2: Are they really going let the full version of Destiny come out and shit all over their golden CoD child? No. Release a small taste. Then allow enough time to pass for the CoDites to get bored so they will throw money at CoDAW and the Destiny fans can get frustrated and throw money at DLC to get a fuller game.
-
I dont think very many people bought Destiny to because it was a competitive multiplayer so it has a different target audience There is a poll on these forum about pve vs pvp preference and its like 97% pve

Edited by WTFisTrue: 10/23/2014 5:08:45 AMNot a bad idea business-wise. I don't like it, but I can see it if they want to hype up and make a killing on CoD. Let's face it CoD has kind of died down a little bit and it's their best selling franchise. Technically Activision and EA are the most profit-driven game companies in the business. I wouldn't put it past them because either way they profit. Think about it. They drive gamers away from Destiny to CoD, but still make money out of Destiny because there will be people that still play it. Also the publisher does set the release date and production date. Personally I think it was a stupid decision by Bungie to sign with Activision. I bet they got blinded by the zeros. I'm sure this business practice has been used before.
