Why do many Christians hate gays?

Wasn't that Leviticus verse in the Old Testament? You know, the same book that says eating shellfish and cutting your beard is a sin? I thought Christians followed the teachings of Jesus Christ, who obviously refuted a lot of the Jewish traditions in favor of more personal freedom and love for all humanity. Jesus never said anything bad about gays... Least I don't think so...
Why do many Christians hate gays?
Don't know, we're commanded to love our neighbor. A Christian is a person who follows Christ. Are you following Christ when you hate your brother? If you then hate your brother, are you really Christian (following Christ)? If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. - 1 John 4:20 But don't get it twisted, refusing to support homosexuality =/= hatred.
I thought Christians followed the teachings of Jesus Christ, who obviously refuted...
You can stop there... Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven - Jesus Christ
