Destiny PvP Tips and Tricks! Auto Rifle Breakdown

(Video above is simply my last commentary, part one of my Destiny PvP Tips and Tricks series, with basic strategy for PvP, watch it if you would like to!) Hello guys, my name is Mercules, and I'm here to provide a few tips and tricks for Destiny. Some of y'all, in particular Hunters, may have stopped by my Legendary Armor Guide (http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/69630734/0/0/1), where I break down all the armor available from the Vendors, and now I'm back to discuss everyone's favorite weapon: The Auto Rifle. A lot of people just simply grab the gun with the highest attack, and play with it, but the weapons are actually significantly more nuanced than that. Specifically for PvP, there are several things you need to know about the different types of Auto Rifles, hereafter referred to as ARs. Basically, there a three main types . I like to refer to them as the Sahara class, Shingen class, and Cydonia/Galahad class. To break them down just try to remember the following: 1. Cydonia/Galahad Class - Highest Impact of all AR classes, Lowest ROF, Smallest Magazine, Medium Stability, Best Range. These are the standard ARs, and the first gun you get from Banshee in the tower is one of these (the Marshal-A1). The positives to this gun are that they are very, very good at close to medium range, with high impact for an AR, however, the medium stability makes them difficult, though not impossible, to use at longer ranges, even though their damage output at said ranges is pretty decent. These guns, if used correctly (all headshots, minimal misses) tend to have a high, as far as ARs go, time to kill, hereafter referred to as TTK. The smallish magazine size, while larger than most Pulse Rifle and Scout Rifle kits, generally can allow two kills per reload cycle, possibly three if one or more enemies are previously injured. This is my personal favorite as far as the AR classes, go, based simply upon the fact that the high impact allows for a faster TTK, as long as the higher recoil is managed correctly. It should also be noted, most of the Legendary ARs stem from this line, so getting practice in beforehand with one of the rare or uncommon models (Cydonia AR-3, Galahad-E) can be a major help in the late game. Examples of guns in this class: Marshal-A1, Marshal-A1a, Cydonia AR-2, Cydonia AR-3, Galahad B, Galahad E, Her Right Hand, Vanquisher VIII, Shadow Price, Grim Citizen III. 2. Sahara Class - Lowest impact, Highest ROF, Largest Magazine, Worst Stability, Worst Range. These are the equivalent of the Sub Machine Gun ARs. Extremely high ROF makes them work like chainsaws at close range, but are utterly useless at anything outside of that. Not too much else to be said about these guns. The high ROF helps immensely at throwing up a wall of shots in very close range, easily outclassing other ARs and relying less on head shots, however, even at medium range these weapons are no longer very viable options. Low stability, low impact, and low range are all cons of this branch of AR, however, they do make up some ground by having absolutely immense magazine sizes, generally upwards of 60-70 shots. That being said, I would stay away from these, although the Legendary weapon versions (Dr. Nope and the Dead Orbit version) are slightly better, more viable options for PvP. Examples of guns in this class: Sahara AR-2, Sahara AR-3, Dr. Nope, Unwilling Soul-09, Hex Caster ARC. 3. Shingen Class - Middle Impact, Middle ROF, Middle Magazine, Best Stability, Middle Range. Possibly the best all around ARs, they have a nearly perfect mix between the High ROF and High Impact classes, without giving up much of anything. The Shingen class seems to be very popular right now in PvP, and with good reason. They possess more impact than the Sahara Class weapons, and a faster ROF than the Cydonia class, along with better stability than both of them, and magazines usually numbering in the low 30's. This combination of stability, ROF, and impact makes these ARs very useful tools for PvP, with excellent forgiveness and easy to manage recoil. The only possible drawback to these weapons is that the impact isn't as high as it could possibly be, and it leads to minutely longer TTK than some higher impact ARs. Unfortunately, there are not any Legendary versions of this class yet, as most Legendary ARs are upgraded versions of the Galahad class, with a few (Dr. Nope, etc) being upgrades to the Sahara class. However, these guns are still excellent to use in PvP all the way up until you start getting the Grim Citizen, Shadow Price, and other Legendary weapons, and really, a fully upgraded Dustwind or Shingen-E is often more than a match for even the best Legendary ARs. Examples of the guns in this class: Shingen-C, Shingen-E, Silvered Hushwind. Well guys, I hope this helped y'all to understand a bit more about the various types of ARs available to play with in Destiny.
