Guide to Group Administration / Themes
Welcome to group creation 101. You will learn how to create a group, along with moderation and administration along with tips for keeping a healthy, active population!
I. [b][u]Group Creation[/b][/u]
To create a group, click up at the top of the page on the link that says "my groups". On the page you bring up there is an option to create a group, click there to begin. WARNING: [b]you aren't allowed to create a group until you have been an active community member for 14 days![/b]
II. [b][u]Setting Up Your Group[/b][/u]
Now that you have chosen to create you group its time for some creation. Your are first on a page that explains the basics, your group cannot violate any rules in the bungie.net [url=http://www.bungie.net/help/code_of_conduct.aspx]Code of Conduct[/url]. After you agree to these terms you can proceed to your creation.
II.1
The creation form is simple to fill out. You have:
Group name
Group Membership Approval (open or closed)
Group Motto
Group Description
Your name is unique. It cannot be changed ever, pick a name that best shows your groups goals and the discussions that will take place within. Membership approval is rather people can join freely, or if you decide if they can join or not. Your motto can be anything, you can make up something for now, but remember you can change it later (see section IV). Your description should show the goal of your group, its purpose, and what takes place within it.
III. [b][u]Getting Started[/b][/u]
Now that you have created your group, its time to customize! To the right of your screen is the navigation bar. You have links to your various areas of your group-

This link takes you to your Home Page
[b]Forum[/b]
A forum that you rule, can moderate it however you like. Make sure discussion here does't violate the code of conduct.
[b]Memberlist[/b]
This shows all the members you have. As an admin you can edit your members security roles (aka member titles)
[b]Articles your group covers[/b]
Simple articles your group covers can be placed here
[b]Faqs[/b]
a Faq area where you can create group related FAQs (like this one)
[b]Contact Info[/b]
Contact info for your members nothing more
[b]Group Links[/b]
You can manage your links here, these links can link to various other websites that help or promote your group, or random links you want (keep 'em clean links)
[b]Group Settings[/b]
Controls for your entire group is here. (see section IV)
[b]Admin Tools[/b]
Tools that only admins can have are here (see section V)
[b][u]Group Settings[/b][/u]
Here you can change your groups Theme (see bottom), your group description, your motto which you might change, group Hq and your group membership options. You can also create a unique Link ID for your group.
[b][u]Admin Tools[/b[/u]
This is a very important part of your group that you should familiarize if you want to have a great group!
[b]News Queue[/b]
This is where you can accept news submited by your members
[b]Blacklist Management[/b]
Managing your blacklist can be done here. You can blacklist members 2 ways. On the offensive post on your forum, each member has "unleash ninjas" next to their names. Click ing this will allow you to set a blacklist for an amount of time you choose, as well as a description to why they are being banned. This will show up everytime they try to post until the blackist expires (if ever). The second way is to choose them from the Memberlist which gives you the same options
[b]Security Role Editor[/b]
This allows you to create mods and even other admins, or just simple user titles. Your defaults are Member, Non Member, and Administrator. You can edit the titles of these be simply clicking "modify role", then changing the role name. You can also edit out what privileges the role gives. For regular members usually having Post in forums and submit news is best. What each option does is self explanatory.

Although I totally agree that the community should be able to contribute to the design, it's tough for some every theme to get noticed. Not that I'm complaining at all! I hope that a users creation will be used, I just hope that people actually take the time to view some of the permutations.

Most of the time, the forum banner is just a smaller version of the main page banner. so i left it out. SInce they are about the same left it out.

I ran past my 10,000 character limit so in a bootlegged way to complete my guide I have finished it in this post :P [b]Member Management[/b] Nothing special here, you can accept members is your group is closed, reject, boot alter roles, and blacklist here. [b]History[/b] History of what you've done is here. Usually pointless if your the only admin/mod. IV. [b][u]Creating News[/b][/u] Being the Admin, you don't have to accept news that you submit. Simple click "submit news". Once you have clicked this you are ready to set up your news. You first start by typing in your title. Next you can create a unique link name for your story (optional). Then you can create you news description (this will show up on the HP to your group only). Lastly you type up the article for your story. After this you can choose what type of news it is. There is: Statement, Declaration, Memoranda, and Directive. A statement or Memoranda will create a news top story, while a declaration or directive make an announcement topic. You are also given the choice of posting a topic for discussion of the news story. [b]Formatting News[/b] Bungie has been nice enough to let us decorate our news with the formatting toolbar. So instead of standard tags ( [b]text[ /b] ) you can use the tool bar. The tool bar has [b]Bold B[/b] [i]Italic I[/i] [u]Underline U[/u] Strikethrough (puts a line through the text) Superscript, Subscript, Cut, Copy, Paste, Hyperlink Management, A spell checker, symbols (€¢§≈»«), Insert Date/Time, Undo/Redo for editing purposes, changing the color of your text, format undo button, find and replace tools, and a help topic is also there for further question. V. [b][u]Forums And Moderation[/b][/u] Post in the forums simply by clicking the Forums button on the navigation box. Once in the forum you can post the same as you would any other forum. If you would like to reture to your group HP, there is a link located in your group banner (see OP for Theme Info) [b]Moderation[/b] You and whoever you decide to give this power to can moderate your forums as you see fit. When you view a topic you will notice at the top of the post you have the "moderator tools". You have the option of Pinning a topic (making it a sticky), locking a topic, revealing a topic (revealing a blacklisted users topic), or deleting it. You can also edit the title and posts of every member if you see fit. Other Info Even if you have the most active forum ever, you don't have a top forum topics feature like the one in the main forums. Your moderators and you don't have special colored text, only in your news (for the moment). [b]Recruitment and Group Government[/b] To recruit you can either create a great ad and spam members PM Box (not the forums) with a well written message to join your group and a link to it. You can also post an ad in the [url=http://www.bungie.net/forums/topics.aspx?forumID=9]Classifieds[/url] forum. (don't post there, only create a topic, and no bumping, this rule is strongly enforced you will get blacklisted) The better you recruit the better your group will grow. Create a group with a good topic that many people will find use for. Don't create a group talking about how much you love your pet, nobody cares sorry. Don't create a group just because you want to be a mod, when you have no members, you have nobody to mod anyways, abusing your powers will just kill your group. Create a well organized group, I personaly don't touch any admin tools without a popular approval from my members. If my group was a government it would be a democratic monarchy, although I have absolute power, I take all decisions from the people. This is a recommended way to govern your group. Giving admin controls to people put potential risk in your group. Giving full control to another member is strongly not recommended, they can boot you from your group and take control. If this happens, there is nothing you can do, it was your fault for giving them the promotion, Achronos has already stated that they will not help you if you do this.
