Titan Defender: Ward of Dawn WTH

So I'm a level 27 Titan and I've just finished leveling up my striker/defender sub classes. The whole time I was playing with the defender sub class I kept finding myself becoming more and more frustrated every time I used the Ward of Dawn, especially in the crucible. These are my two issues with the Ward of Dawn: 1) whats the point of having an awesome dome shield if I have to step out of it to shoot my enemies? 2) what's the point of having a dome shield that I can't shoot out of but my enemies can rush me and kill me inside of it? IMO, it should be one of three ways. 1st) If your enemies can rush and kill you inside the Ward of Dawn you should it LEAST be able to shoot enemies from the comfort of being in it without stepping out. 2nd) If you can't shoot your enemies from inside of it your enemies should it least receive some kind of damage or become impaired in some way if they come inside your Ward of Dawn. 3rd and my favorite would be allowing you to shoot your enemies from inside of Ward of Dawn and they would receive damage from entering it as well, but that may be OP. I just feel like gaining over shield, orbs of light, and extra weapon damage are cool in there own right but the issues listed above negate those benefits and make Ward of Dawn almost useless... What do you guys think?

  • It is very good in pve (except for those dang bubble-jacking bosses and phalanxes) but is lackluster in PVP. perhaps if weapons of light let users shoot out of bubble for damage penalty then it would be more balanced. hard to say but there needs to be some buff to the pvp side of things.

  • I play Defender main PVE. In pvp I only do Control and Salvage, Striker for the rest. In fact I finished a game with another defender titan last night. Score roughly 10k us, 4k them. Another salvage game with a K/D of 3.3. Check out my gtag and see game clips of proof of that, as well as capturing a point with at least 6 guardians taking me on. -use armor of light. Max your armor. Use the WoD lower cd perk. Use long duration of WoD perk. -I played Paladin in WoW and loved being support. Playing defender takes me back to that. Melee kills giving orbs as well as WoD taking damage giving orbs. I've supplied hunters and locks endless amount of supers because of this and high intellect (more bubble uses). Them killing with supers gives me orbs, which makes bubbles to give them ones. SUPPORT SPEC -"No back up plans" gauntlets plus Relentless perk and Unbreakable perk is probably what you want for that personal survivability. Also Max strength. -I'm having fun and can't play any other spec just because of these above factors.

    • Truth Defender Titans as a whole need a buff. Why? Their name to put it simply. You expect to be a walking tank. But instead you get a bubble. Yay. Armor of light should be a passive for WoD, why? So you can actually do cool stuff like pop your WoD and use Blessings of light and still have the extra armor to wreck in both game types. As opposed to being forced to chose AoL, in conjunction with a shotgun to make you an effective force especially if you dont have Saint helm. Moving on, Sunsingers get a overshield on melee damage right? That thing is invaluable, it pretty much guarantees you'll win your next gun fight if you shoot at the same time. However defender titans have to get a kill with their melee to get their overshield. Why doesnt this have the same criteria as Sunsingers? Who knows. But it would make defenders more tanky like their name suggests. Also, WoD should be cancelled by other super but not kill everyone inside. When shooting a golden gun at the bubble it should take 3 shots not 2 to break it (takes 2 to my knowledge) leaving 1 to kill our titan. Nova Bomb should break the sheild but thats it. While using FoH you have to enter then use it as opposed to Superman punching into it, you should just hit the sheild and thats it, breaking it but killing no one. Also, the titans protective bubble while sprinting should be a passive for Defenders as well. I think as it stands now its a very dificult class to make a case for. But with some tweaks it can be viable for both pve and pvp. Yes I know WoD + WoL increases damage which is awesone during Atheon especially, but I mean thats only one thing in the game its especially useful for...

Two abilities that I wish it had: Infliction: enemies entering the bubble have reduced speed and take increased damage. (as people have mentioned , like the Hive Wizard poison attack, and gets better with the Helm of Saint 14's blinding effect) Deflection: enemies firing at the ward of dawn have a 75% chance of having their attack returned to them in lieu of a bolt of void energy. (this would give the ward a sort of counterattack function)

      • Learn how to use the dome shield to your advantage. 1. You gain an overshield inside the dome. Hella OP. 2. You can control a situation by utilizing the shield and luring people inside. 3. Stop being a winey faggt

      • It's simple: Defender is not meant for PvP -- end of story. Plus, if you are sitting in a bubble, you better have a shotgun or hand cannon ready.

          • Alright guys I'm going to update my opinion on this subject considering most of the comments I've read. As far as being able to shoot through your WoD, as badass as that would be, it would be OP. Especially if you squad up inside of it with weapons of light. Everyone keeps talking about the Helm of Saint 14, ok that's cool. It's awesome that it blinds enemies when the come inside the WoD, the only problem is, what if you didn't have enough strange coins when Xur came around a few weeks ago with it? Not to mention I personally like the Helm of Inner Light and its perks better. I still believe if enemies can run into the WoD and rush you and kill you they should still receive some kind of damage or impairment and it should be standard considering the WoD is a DEFENSIVE class. For all those out there stating that would make it OP, how does that make it any different the wearing the Helm of Saint 14? It doesn't, hell I'd be ok if it did the same thing and just blinds the enemies that come into it! This would, IMO, make the WoD more balanced for PvP and PvE. You'll have your defensive cover and weapons of light during your strikes while facing waves of fallen and you have your inside protection during matches like control considering it will make people think twice before they bust in thinking they can just take you out with a blast from a shotgun! And yes I've been killed by people with just a shotgun, maybe it's because I have the blessing of light perk activated but still it just seems ridiculous you can die that easily inside the WoD. Which brings me to my next point, SUPERS! I get it, supers can take out supers but damn... I've seen striker Titans and warlocks destroy the WoD like it wasn't there at ALL! I know there are the suppressor grenades too, but do you think your going it hit a blade dancing hunter with that most of the time? It just seems like the WoD vs other class supers is unbalanced. Enemies should just face some kind of repercussion for entering the WoD thunda dome, lol! If I've learned two things its to switch to the armor of light and roll with a shotgun or fusion rifle inside of the WoD. Btw for all the peeps saying I'm a baby or I don't know how to use it... Come find me in the crucible guardians and prove your worth, cause I'll prove mine! Haha!

              • Your doing it wrong. I use the physical damage resistance buff. Hang out inside. Pop out when you need to. Combined with my helm I've killed 3 to 4 people stupid enough to run inside. Pop out when you need to. I've been killed in that scenario but more often than not I'm able to one man a point while taking down several guardians.

                  • Use the Massive DR while in shield ability. Max out your armor. Use a shotgun. If you die to anything less than a Super or a well coordinated gangbang, you have the Epic Fail.

                    • Ward of Dawn with Blessing of Light is an AWESOME asset in PvE AND PvP. That being said, you have to know the when and where to blow the amazing disco bubble: In PvE, NEVER blow a bubble in front of an enemy spawn point... it will prevent your FireTeam from hitting them before they can spread out. NEVER blow a bubble that doesn't leave room for you or your allies to step out and fire at the enemies or bosses... Like right in a doorway. You should use your bubble to extend a point of cover rather than create one. Always use the environment to allow you a quick retreat to cover for when it pops. Another use is to provide protection when reviving FireTeam members who were caught and killed in open ground, ESPECIALLY in Nightfall or VoG. A good set-up for PvE: Ward of Dawn w/Blessing of Light and the Crest of the Alpha Lupi. In PvP... The best use of the Ward of Dawn is to capture or hold zones. Again DON'T blow a bubble in a confined choke point where you force yourself and/or your allies to step into the fatal funnel of incoming fire... like a hallway. Don't blow your bubble too early as it gives your opponents time to adjust their tactics and/or switch weapons. When you do blow a bubble, if you haven't already, switch to your CQB weapon (shotgun or fusion rifle) and be ready to defend the Thunderdome. Don't step straight out into mid range or long range fire... step out of the sides or let them follow you out the back. NEVER fire a Rocket Launcher from inside the bubble... it's a hard lesson that's quickly learned LOL! The Helm of Saint 14 adds a GREAT perk of blinding people who enter your bubble... DON'T stand on the train tracks! When your opponent is entering you should be using lateral movement to avoid things like shotguns, grenades, and shoulder charges. Sometimes it's hard to save the bubble for the most tactical employment; however, we ALL suffer from the Panic Bubble Syndrome at some point or another. IF it saves you or your allies then it was well played. NEVER let a bubble go to waste... win or lose... when the match is over make sure to blow a bubble and have a disco party.

                    • I get what your saying and this is coming from a passionate Titan Defender. Ward of Dawn may not need a buff. And any buffs would likely make it OP. Think about it.....anyone entering your bubble without a super is done. Unless 3 people with shotguns gang up on you which is justifiable at that point. Yes it seems Ward of Dawn is a victim of other Supers when it is the main defense Super in the game. How come the number one defense ability is so vulnerable to the others? For one if the other supers couldn't counter Ward of Dawn then it would definitely be OP. But also you're forgetting one crucial part of the Titan Defenders arsenal: the suppressor grenade. This tool itself changes the whole game and is likely the most powerful grenade in the entire game. Why? Cause it cancels out other Supers. So if you hit someone with this they CANNOT use a grenade, melee ability, OR Super for 10 seconds. And IF a super is active such as Arc Blade, Golden Gun, and Radiance it CANCELS it out completely. This is a perfect compliment to Ward of Dawn to help your shield not get broken immediate while you're capping a Control point and time for your team to close in on them. However the suppressor grenade may need a buff itself. Either a larger radius and/or a shorter fuse time.

You clearly don't know how to use Ward Of Dawn, it's a great super. Not just for yourself, but for all of your teammates as well. What you're proposing would completely imbalance it.

                        • Nope bubble is fine. Bubble+shotgun is enough to kill. And there are enough people who go inside a bubble. (In pvp i prefer the defense buff when i'm in the bubble)

                            • The Armor of Light perk in the Defender skill tree gives you huge damage resistance while in your bubble. Stack this with that Titan helm, I think it was called the Helm of Saint "something", and anyone who enters your shield will be blinded. I don't like the idea of being able to shoot out of your bubble for obvious balancing reasons. My best advice for you would be to use a shotgun with the Blessings of Light perk and nail anyone too close to your bubble.
