@Bungie - My two cents of Creative Criticism

Dear Bungie, First off, I want to thank everyone involved in making this game. Developing a video game takes a lot of amazing people spending 14+ hour days, sleepless nights and weekend-less weeks at the studio and as an animator myself, I know just too well how exhausting, yet rewarding this can be. Shout out to the artists and animators who worked on this. You guys did an amazing job at making this game look so -blam!-ing gorgeous. You guys, like many other people that are usually not in the spotlight, deserve some attention :) Destiny has been a super addictive game for me, even though there are many things I can't help but shake my head at. I have been playing since launch and even thought it hasn't always been the most enjoyable experience, I definitely got more than my money's worth out of it. So, thank you for delivering something that has so much potential. Personally, I don't often write feedback messages to games I play, because most of the times I just don't care enough about the game to spend hours thinking about how to make it better, with the exception of Guild Wars 2 and now Destiny. Disclaimer: As someone who has played many MMO's and enjoys very story driven games, I will mostly comment on things relating to these topics. As for PvP, I don't think I am skilled enough to make suggestions. I would also like to stress that everything written in this post is my personal opinion and I do not claim to speak for anyone else, as I cannot do so. Cheers! Feedback The things I believe should -- in one form or another -- be improved. OK, let's get right into it. Grimoire Cards - part 1 The Problem It can't be said enough, how important it is to have this information accessible in-game. Certainly, at Bungie you are already talking about a system you could put in place, as the importance of this issue has been stressed by players many times. My Suggestion Create a place within the tower for people to access the Grimoire cards, enabling players to meet likeminded people, and to further enhance the immersion. This would support the suspension of disbelief more so than an interface accessed through the options menu. If the tower is a place for Guardians to meet up, swap stories (for which you'd need a chat system), gather information, show off loot and so on, it should contain a place resembling a library. Guardians, much like Jedi, being the elite keeping the last city safe, would need access to all information known. (Think Jedi Archives). A place where Gandalf would go to research information on the ring, scholars looking up details on the Vault of Glass. (Think Holocrons) I realize, this would take more resources than just simply adding a Grimoire tab in the options menu. However, I believe that having a terminal your guardian can walk up to -- inside a library space -- would be a more fun and engaging way for players to look up information. Grimoire Cards - part 2 The Problem There are certain Grimoire Cards that need to be voice-acted briefings or debriefs. I'm not entirely sure to which degree this is the case, however there seem to be cards that contain quotes from NPC's, commenting on certain points of the story, as you progress, that aren't in the main storyline. If I am not mistaken the Speaker tells you twice to be wary of the Queen, however I don't remember this being the case in-game. My Suggestion Even if voice-recording certain quotes would be too expensive, adding them as text to the loading screen would enable players to read this story content, while waiting for the game to load. I can understand if that is a conscious choice to keep any text from being on the loading screen, but that screen is just that, even if you have a fancy ship flying around. Otherwise, maybe a prompt to open up a certain Grimoire Card while you fly into battle would work as well. This content would help to make the overall story seem a little less like a personal affair, but more of an operation led by the Speaker, who seems to pull the strings. My Wish This is just something added, as I think it would absolutely be cool to see. Instead of the usual loading screen, I think it would be cool to see an inside view of the ship, as the player character might be talking with Dinklebot about the current mission. On other missions your Guardian might be looking at an intercom screen, talking with the Speaker while checking out a satellite image of the mission area. Raid Lore The Problem Raid lore is absolutely amazing and I think it's great that, for example you have to kill a Gorgon to get information on it. That being said, when I departed to test myself in the raid for the first time, there was no information given. My Guardian went on this dangerous mission without a clue of what was going on. Why are we going there? What is so important and dangerous that you have to team up with 5 other Guardians and might not even survive the ordeal. I wasn't expecting to get all the details, but maybe a few short sentences from someone telling me why I should care, aside from the loot. All the lore and story aside, it still is a raid, but there is a reason people are complaining about the lack of story and the raid would've been a great opportunity to take a step into a more story driven direction. My Suggestion All it takes is a quick.. "The Vex are working on something and it's big. Guardian, you and a small team are tasked to investigate what the Vex are doing inside the Vault of Glass. This is of highest priority and we need you to dispose of any threat. Be wary, reports suggest the Vex are extremely powerful within the Vault. Good Luck" That way getting Grimoire Cards as you progress through the raid makes sense. You receive information as you investigate and dispose of any threat you might encounter. The information might still be shrouded in mystery, but at least this way there is a story element for why you should care, as you go in there. Social Aspects The Problem A lot of people have mentioned this many times, but Destiny needs to have more social features. Ultimately better social features would improve communication between players and help to turn Destiny from something like an online single player/co-op shooter with multiplayer arenas into more of an MMOFPS with competitive arenas. My Suggestion Trading / Auction Place Trading and having an auction place would definitely create a lot of problems within Destiny. Not only would it make the crucible gear dealers, weapons dealer and trainers useless, because you can just buy your gear from other players, but it would also destroy the way the reward system currently works. So, I'm ok with not being able to trade gear, even though I want that Octopus Cloak really ... really badly. You could keep legendary and exotic gear account bound, much like MMO's do with certain gear and instead enable players to trade rare, uncommon, common gear and materials. Crafting System This would be something that would be really cool to see further down the road. In one of the videos about how the characters/classes came to be, you described the hunter gear as something the hunters would put together from things they found on missions. Crafting their gear so to say. This would be really cool to have and create more content for players to stay busy until DLC releases. Guild / Clan Management / Bonuses It seems to be really complicated to recruit people to your clan or guild, which it shouldn't and it would be beneficial to have an in-game menu where you can manage and follow the progress of your guild. Giving the guild a progression system would be really cool, as it could allow them to purchase certain timed bonuses at certain ranks. For example, Guild ABC ranked up recently and now is able to buy rank 2 items, like a 30 minute glimmer bonus on all Hive kills or a +2 all stats bonus for one Vault of Glass run. Proximity Chat Probably won't ever happen, but I could imagine it being a cool feature to have.

 • part 2 Daily Story Missions The Problem I'm not sure if this is just me, but I am getting really bored of the story. I feel that daily story missions are destroying what little story there is. Personally, I enjoyed the story even though it had its flaws and I was really excited about the cutscenes. However, many story driven games don't give players the option to replay the story content, unless they were to create a new character. Assassins Creed would definitely be an exception, however it makes sense in context. Many MMO's on the other hand have a very straight forward progression, where after you've completed the story content, you are in a different world than the one you started in. You have progressed through the timeline and the events actually mattered, because you cannot replay what has happened in the past. This to me means persistent universe. What I like about Destiny is that I do have the option to replay that content (please let me watch the first reef cutscene again), but in an online game it shouldn't be one of the main feature to keep players busy until more content is released. Daily story missions are of course optional, but it feels as though Destiny doesn't have enough content, thus using story missions to keep you busy on your grind for better gear. If my character has beaten the Black Garden and completed the story, why does she have to go back and beat it once again? Is there some time paradox we don't know of? Again, I understand it's optional. My Suggestion Rather than destroying the story completely by making players replay it for reputation and gear, daily, I would love to see different kill missions, gathering missions, research missions, etc. that are separate from the story timeline. Strikes are one thing, but these missions could be random missions that characters within the tower would send you on, similar to patrols, but longer and harder. Instead of daily story missions it would be like a daily quest. This creates more content for people to keep them busy and wouldn't make us long for a skip button so badly. Anyhow, I feel like I have written way too much for just two cents and even though I have a few other things I could talk about, I'd rather mention my personal highlight of the game. My personal highlight were two short cutscenes in the middle of the game's story arc. When for the first time my character had more than just a single line. When I saw her face reacting to what Dinklebot had to say, dealing with the Queen and her sassy brother. I would love to see more of these cutscenes and even though its likely we will only get 5 short story missions with the next DLC, I'm hopeful that one day I shall see another cutscene. Cheers! Azure
