TLDR: Make material farming fun.
First off, thank you for making Destiny. Much of the experience it offers goes far beyond what I've seen in other games. However, while I can see the rationale behind most of the decisions you've taken, one I cannot fathom: The system by which we obtain spinmetal, spirit bloom, helium filaments and relic iron. The volume of materials we need to farm means hours floating around a chest run hoping for random spawns. In a game where almost every other objective involves fast-paced, tactical, precision combat, this feels like tedious mockery.
Some ideas:
-Items similar to Ether Seeds and Polyphage, which would give defeated enemies a chance to drop materials. The item wouldn't need to be easy to obtain or give a high drop rate: Just something to bring farming back into the realm of gameplay.
-Material bounties. Either a separate class of bounty or the possibility to choose between rewards. Material bounties could be a lot harder; I don't think anyone would mind.
-A message, similar to the one telling us that a player has found a legendary or exotic item, whenever someone harvests a material. We could then try to track down that player's location before the spawn disappears. I think this would lead to bonding and camaraderie between randoms on patrol, and add just a bit of depth to the farming experience. Maybe an option to turn those messages off, if you're not interested in materials at that time.
One or more of the above, or of the many other possibilities, would make quite a big difference to the game. What do other people think? Any other ideas?
