Xur should be reworked or removed, *added suggested fixes*

*First couple minutes of the video hint on what was said over and over about the gear and what it was supposed to stand for. Regardless of the many other issues, Xur is the epitome of the exact opposite of what they were marketing. Lets be honest, no one really really loves the RNG system but Xur is not the answer and will be/is a problem. Exotics are supposed to be the rarest of rare and the beholder should be so happy to have one that they would go and tell all there friends how lucky they were to get it. Every time they pull it out during a strike or other event people should hear or see it and ask what the heck it is. Someone wielding an exotic would be so proud they would carry it into everything even if it wasn't the greatest gun (barring raids or events needing better gear). Exotic armor should be just as rare and flaunted. One would be so happy to come across it that they would wear it even if the perks were useless to them. Everyone would see the armor and be envious. A week or so before I was able to start playing endgame content and know of Xur I saw sunbreakers for the first time. They looked so amazing that I actually took a screenshot on my ps4. Now, not only did I cycle through them but they are a dime a dozen. Xur sells these items for basically free. This not only devaluates the item but it over saturates the community. When the ice breaker went on sale from Xur that was primarily the only sniper I heard in both PVP and PVE. This in its entirety completely contradicts what an exotic should be. Now not only was the gun I carried being used all over the place, I now felt ashamed to even have it. It was so common that I could have used a white colored common sniper and actually had the rarest gun in that playlist. Not only is the price point a major problem (coming from someone who only has one lv 20+ character) considering how easy it is to buy but the game cannot support this for long. There is not enough exotic content to allow this to happen. Only a month and I have cycled through 4 exotic pieces of armor. This wouldn't be a problem if the game had loads more but it doesn't as far as we know. Unless we don't know, all classes seem to have 2-3 exotic armors per section (although I didn't find many boots) for now. We will run out soon, and unless the DLC inevitable exotics aren't locked to DLC owners that will be all she wrote. Aside from oversaturating the market, making the rarest guns in the game the most common and potentially running out of content, Xur is what is wrong with gaming today. Granted no one really likes RNG, Xur is still giving the entitled the rarest stuff for doing almost nothing. Why should I constantly play strike playlists or raids every week for those engrams or possibly exotic drops just to get something amazing and then have Xur give it away next weekend? That's a slap in the face. Xur should sell legendary items. This should be where legendary items can be bought with random perks and the price should still go up. He should have one exotic engram item that can be bought for 40 motes of light or more. Buying something from xur should always make the player ask himself "well should I buy this or wait for next week?" and not "I likey this one, can't wait to buy whatever I want next week too". Not only should there be a price increase on strange coins but there should be a cap on them just like there is for marks and glimmer, sorry to the individuals using 3 characters (you can still farm shards and energies :) ). Instead of reworking teleportation mechanics or where a relic can be taken to, we should look at Xur. Bungie said early on something about explaining how you came across a certain exotic and how awesome that would be, ashame when people see exotics now they can simply think 'Xur'. In the end, exotics should be exotic. Edit: It seems like a lot of you read the title and just responded.. My sole purpose more so is to have Xur be reworked then to have him removed. Options could be: 1. He sells legendary items with different perks/abilities. Love that armor but hate that it only has strength and not discipline? Keep an eye on Xur. Want your favorite looking weapon to have better reload perks? Keep an eye on Xur. In this situation he could still keep the regular exotic engram. I actually wouldn't mind if he had one armor and one weapon engram. I would still like to see a price increase on strange coins here as well as a cap, negotiable. Also to account for 3 different classes, Xur should can carry more items with him. 2. Keep Xur exactly the same but with a revised price scheme. 40 strange coins for all exotics with a 50 strange coin cap. This is my favorite fix as it will instill that "should I buy or wait" mentality as well as not allowing people to buy 1-2 exotics a week. This will also be a price point for a lot that will make an exotic actually worth something and not just handed out. 3. xLethalLethargy had an idea about having him sell exotic bounties. This is a good idea and would make it to where those who just want to be given free exotics would still have to put time into the game to get them. This is also an amazing idea because it would stop people from buying 1-2 exotics a week as it will clogg up there bounty slots. This idea sounds better and better the more I think about it. He suggested a higher price point as well which may need to be in place if the bounties could be done and returned within a day or two.

PAUSE There's no market, so how could there be such over saturation. Also, relying on RNG to get more items (seeing as though that's all there is to do atm) is wholly retarded imo. EDIT: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/73744279

      • Agree but you forgot to mention since they fixed the engrams every third blue gives a coin or mote of light. If your like me farming badges each week and other events on three chars you end up with 40-50 of em not including the weekly herioc. I own most exotics xur sells I work one week on one off but feel free to look at my guys. know my bank is half full of exotics lol easier to get than legendary gear.

        • Other than cycling what he sells so he doesn't sell the something on consecutive weeks, he doesn't need to change.

        • Firstly Xur doesn't sell every exotic in the game. Secondly he is a way for those of us with limited time to play to actually get something good. I myself can only play an average of around 3 hours a week not a day like the average destiny player does (see weekly update from deej) I have only just gotten 13 strange coins to purchase something from him last week and I am asking "should I wait" like you wanted in option 2. There are two different complaints I see about Xur on the forums. 1 He keeps selling stuff I don't want. 2 Get rid of him because now everyone can get decent gear. The latter seems to always be from people who have what they want and want to be unique.

          • I agree that he should sell legendary stuff that have different stats but it would be great to have one exotic engam you can purchase with strange coins and mote of light together. At least then you'll have a chance to get something exotic but would be random.

          • Another thought is to make another class of weapons. Above and beyond. Prepatch mythoclast powerful. Maybe call them mythic Let the exotic become like legendarys, but really good. Full exotic armour and weapons that you can find or buy as they are right now (RGN, Bounties, Xur) But since exotics are already so easy to get (stop kidding yourself people, he's right) it's kind of to late to change them into the awe inspiring things they should be. I propose that another stage up from exotics be intoduced. Like, I mean CRAZY good. Mythoclast on the low end of the spectrum. They could have their own crucible playlist to prevent the strong from preying in the weak. No normal crucible if you have set weapon or armour equipped. You go to your own place with equally good people. As for PVE? Leave it. They should be OP for PVE. But have it so they can choose to do a crazy hard version of anything they want. Probably never going to happen, but I can dream.

Let's clarify, cause there's a disconnect here somewhere. Btw, you have come across in your posts as intelligent and as a stand up guy. Which is why I'm clarifying here. Quoted from Bungie Community manager within the video OP provided for his reasoning to change or Remove Xûr David D: "YOUR destiny is what ->you<- make of it. YOUR destiny is something that ->you<- are in full control over. There's a lot of different ways TO PLAY this game. There's a lot of different experiences that we're packing into this game. And the way those paths unfold in front of you will be the choices that ->you<- make". O_O I'm not arguing with you dude. I'm quoting what David said. And unfortunately, and I really dislike doing this because I spent four years working with lawyers and judges, you've basically defeated yourself by basing your argument (because you are saying I'm arguing) on what David is saying. At the very beginning he states "YOU" (that's each individual player), are making your own destiny (by definition the player individually determines their own) with your "full control" over it (you control your destiny with the choices you make). The way (Xûr the vendor) that those paths (obtaining rewards through earning coin and buying your gear is a PATH) unfold in front of you WILL BE the choices (a players own choice, made by them) that YOU (each individual player) make. Your video is proof, and fully clarifies that XÛR is a CHOICE that EVERY PLAYER has the right to select taking. For you to campaign against any player taking that path, or by saying Bungie is "slapping you in the face" for providing a path for players to chose, is in fact you attempting to disallow exactly what David said in this video. You are in fact voicing you don't want players to have that path and choice, you are stating you don't want that path others take to reward them. He said that the players have "FULL CONTROL OVER THEIR DESTINY". Not "The guy who doesn't like the path others take to restrict it because he doesn't like it". You, and your apparent goal, is to restrict or block or undo the path Bungie gave players to "chose". Yes, I've watched the video. Yes, I've understood it. What he states about each players freedom of a path to take is what they gave us. The ONLY players who are attempting to alter the paths of how we forge our destiny... are the players like you who ignored what he said. It's each persons choice to take the path of killing bad guys at high difficulty to go for the gold and enjoy their rewards meeting Xur on that path. He stated it's OUR RIGHT TO PICK THAT PATH. Not YOU. He stated it's OUR DESTINY to forge. Not YOU to alter it, decide it's difficulty, or deem it unworthy. He stated the PATHS that unfold are by OUR CHOICES.... not YOU, or anybody else who says it shouldn't be allowed. Bottom line unfortunately is you defeated yourself in this. The whole time, every moment you spent basing your argument on "how the game should make you feel" you ignored the fundamental basis for the game by it's very title. It's each players Destiny to pick a path. And your destiny was spent trying to restrict players from reaching their own from the very things he stated. It's our choices. Not "the guy who feels slapped determines our choices". We decide our path. And you are telling Bungie to restrict what they offered us. The freedom of choice, and to alter our destiny because YOU don't like it. I'm sorry it had to end this way, you seem like a nice person, TRUELY. But you don't have the right to alter the "choices" Bungie gave us. Anything beyond this post if it makes you feel better the last word can be yours if you wish. But David defeated you in your own argument. Good luck in your campaign in altering the paths we the players make based on how you FEEL we should reach OUR "Destiny".

              • "Exotics are supposed to be the rarest of rare and the beholder should be so happy to have one that they would go and tell all there friends how lucky they were to get it." Where did you get that from? Exotics are so named because they have exotic abilities. It doesn't really refer to a particular rarity. I'm pretty sure the intend is for the players to have exotics. The you-can-only-equip-one-exotic limit hints that possesing tons of exotics is fine. " Every time they pull it out during a strike or other event people should hear or see it and ask what the heck it is" Can't communicate in-game. Kinda pointless. "One would be so happy to come across it that they would wear it even if the perks were useless to them. " Doesn't make sense. If an exotic is more terrible than a legendary you shouldn't wear it. Use logic, use your legendary. "Xur sells these items for basically free. " If you play at least 3h a day yes. Scrouging up 20 some coins takes a while if your only source is maybe one from a blue engram here and there in one of the two or three strike you do in a week. Not everyone is maxed out in marks on tuesday and keeps doing strikes until they're swimming in strange coins. "Only a month and I have cycled through 4 exotic pieces of armor. " Wait, you've MAXED out four exotic armors, shards and all? You're not the typical player you know. You're ashamed to carry exotics now? Ashamed really? Do you even think before writing? How did you get your icebreaker? A nice 0.001% RNG roll at the end of a level 24 strike? That is soooooooooooooooooooooo more skillful than anyone! Xur is a problem only to you, because he allows people who don't sink hundreds of hours into the game to beat the RNG and use those rarer items in their limited playtime. You play only to rub your character sheet on people, giggling all the while. There is no market, no saturation, no trading, barely any inspecting, no one cares what you're using, as long as you pull you weigth in a firefight. You're complaining that it's a slap in the face that other player get exotics because you can't slap your RNG-gained exotics in their face? Feel free to shard your in exotic in "shame". I suggest you go outside, have a nice coffee in a nice coffee shop on a sunny terrace. Then come back, read how terrible this post is just go have fun in Destiny with your friends.

Now that the OP has been discredited by his video, he added a disclaimer categorizing "what" you should listen to at the beginning of his post. Watch the WHOLE VIDEO. Because the very beginning of the video Bungie states you get to pick your path from the many in the game. OP is discrediting statements within the video where Bungie actually claims it's about "us " and the paths we take. Xur is a path we take for rewards. OP added his disclaimer after it was pointed out Bungie stated this in the beginning of the vid. To David D in the video. Thank you. You're right. I've enjoyed the different paths. It's why I enjoy the game. It's when people like the OP try to deny players the paths you provide that so many community enjoy this game. If Xur wasn't a good path, more than 88% wouldn't have voted for him in a poll made 24 hours ago. So Ty David.

                  • Xur is fine. People have to actually earn strange coins for him, instead of do a 15 minute Tiger Strike and randomly get a Legendary or Exotic because you participated and got lucky.

                  • I do the nightfall every week and do strikes a lot to get strange coins. I EARN the coins and go to Xur to spend them on exotics. Therefore I EARN my exotics. I'm still confused as to why people who get lucky RNG loot feel like they should be the only ones with exotics. It sounds delusional and selfish.

If you could be so kind as to help me find a post prior to this week where a player who earned coins and bought an item from Xûr complained about a player finding that same item as a random loot drop I'd appreciate it. If players earned currency, bought from Xûr, and complained you or anyone found it for free as a loot drop id luv to see that person complaining. Cause "Bill" (the guy who earned coins), isn't on here complaining he got slapped in the face cause he has to earn his and you found yours. Points are simple: -A player earning an item you own differently than you only lessens your items worth because you "feel" it does. If your item was a waste of time because somebody else had it, you'd DELETE your item. Do you? Nope. -A player owning an item I own does not insult me nor degrade my item or what I earn because I'm "feeling" like my item was a waste of time. My item I played through public events for, and strikes, and weekly events was effort to earn my rewards, and it isn't of less worth cause you found yours elsewhere. -Players who are "upset the other guy has their item" literally have a personal issue. People complaining about others having what they have is childish. It's a contest of your own making, a competition in your head between you and someone else. And instead of earning better gear yourself, you're undermining the functions of the game by going to Bungie to remove another players form of EARNING. Your feelings of self worth or feelings and emotional status are not Bungies responsibility (when did Bungie become the girlfriend who is supposed to make YOU feel special?). .... because your feelings are hurt. Because you "feel" bad. You're letting the existence of a fictional thing emotionally dictate your actions, which are to restrict others from obtaining a fictional thing (and any feeling of earned worth). How childish is it you and others like you want to restrict players and what they earn because you "feel" they should not be able to obtain a reward differently because you deem it "too easy". You weren't there with them earning coins, nor there to see if it was difficult. But because they have what you have... You want it to stop and restrict them. Immature, childish, and selfish. This argument about Xûr, and restricting players who earn through him isn't about Bungie, it's not even about the item. It's about players who want to be special, and don't want others to have what they have because the deem their earning it was of greater value. And what's worse is, the demographic you're targeting isn't up in arms against you or anyone playing 1 mission repeatedly and having anything. But if they BUY IT, then they didn't work like you, and your opinion of how they got it should change the game for anyone who didn't earn it your way. Ugh. Dude... that's wrong. You earned your item differently. That doesn't mean OTHERS didn't earn theirs. If that wasn't the argument, then these anti-Xur threads wouldn't all state the same thing in different words which are all the equivalent of the same thing... "He has what I have, and it's a slap in the face." People earn differently. That's all.

I feel that ALL exotic items should have been made hard to get and should have a zero chance to drop randomly, they are after all supposed to be exotic and the fact that every player uses the same exotics kind of takes away from the game. Since xur sold the suros I haven't played a single game in crucible or iron banner where there weren't at least 2-3 people using it. Same goes with the exotic armor, every hunter has the symbiote etc.. And these items only offer marginal advantages in pvp and pve, thus making them actually hard to get wouldn't really impact the game besides for a bunch of QQing from kids who want everything handed to them. Imagine If every exotic weapon was a bounty and a hard bounty at that! A bounty that followed the history of the gun or armor and added content to the game. Bungle missed out on creating a huge batch of badass side quests. Imagine getting a bounty for the icebreaker where you actually learn how it was made why it regenerates ammo etc. why the last word is called the last word. They could have solved the Vex Mythoclast problem if they would have made it so a bounty might drop from beating Atheon on hard mode and then make the bounty hard, search the black garden for remnants of mythoclast, complete part 1 from killing praetorians, complete part 2 gathering 100 ascendant energy complete part 3 by killing the gorgons all of them on hard mode, complete part 4 by beating the hard mode raid in set amount of time. If they requires all of this and I saw someone with it in pvp pre nerf I wouldn't have given a -blam!- because they earned it. Also to everyone saying "Well I did earn my exotics..." Getting lucky on random drops and getting strange coins or knocking atheon off a cliff or opening a chest is not earning. You are guaranteed 9 strange coins a week if you spend 30 minutes to finish the weekly and they drop from strikes engrams and pvp very frequently. I think a good solution would be to have Xur stop selling exotics and instead have him sell exotic bounties for 10 strange coins and the bounties are for weapons and armor. Have some bounties drop randomly from beating nightfall, or strikes and if you are going to keep up with the chance on getting an exotic bounty from the bounty vendor make it a slightly greater chance and make it so you cannot repeat bounties he gives you, everyone has either gotten all weapons his bounties give you or has not gotten one at all because his drop rate on those bounties is out of wack. Make exotic bounties hidden too, example several games in crucible with at least 2 vehicle kills or 6 kills with a rocket will cause the crucible vendor or a faction vendor to give you a bounty for a exotic rocket launcher that aggressively seeks targets. Also where are the faction exclusive exotics? Sorry for rant, these are just ideas from a larger post I'll have later, also posting from iPhone so excuse grammar/spelling mistakes.

                        • So far I've "earned" 3 plan Cs , 2 invictus done bounties for bad juju and sound good advice, I broke down all except sound good advice cos frankly they were shit compared to some of my legendaries, I bought my truth and ice breaker as well as two pieces of armour. Because I got the chance to, I also bought 4 others which I broke down for shards and energy. Xur is a godsend for the shitty drops I get, I just wish he had legendary armour to push me past level 29 as from 3 completed raids I've gotten one weapon and one piece of armour both from my first run, My last two runs yielded me only shards. How the -blam!- do I break level 29 with this shitty drops, Each atheon defeat should result in garenteed drops, 1st helmet,2nd body armour, 3rd gauntlets, 4th grieves, 5th cloak or character specific speciality. Chests random weaponry. And each completion after the first of the reset should only yield ascendant materials.

                        • The third option is the best option my opinion. It would give the sense that you actually earned and worked for it. Plus, something more to do in the game.
