Sunsingers! Please Advise

Just want some advice on how to build/play a sunsinger effectively... Song of Flame, Radiant Skin or Fireborn, and Why? What's stats do you focus: INT, DIS, STR? Fireborns, do you just never use your super until your dead and no one can revive? Are Song of Flame or Radiant Skin even useful when death matters, like raids and nightfalls? I mostly PvE, but I do enjoy a few rounds of PvP if there's bounties I know I can do. Haven't done the raid yet, but I plan to next week. Currently, I'm running Fireborn with high INT but low DIS and STR because that's the gear I found. I find the INT is a waste because 90% of the time someone can revive me safely anyways and I never end up using my super so it's rarely on cooldown. Edit: Thanks for the advice everyone! Realized now that DIS and STR will keep me alive longer so I'd have to self-resurrect even less. :)

  • My 2c Sunsingers are a support class. For team PvE, Song of Flame or Fireborn are absolute marvels. Fireborn prevents wipes in Nightfalls or similar; Song allows your teammates to bust off abilities and supers much faster (so they generate Orbs, so everyone including you can super again sooner). For soloing and PvP, Radiant Skin is a wonder. Radiance already adds some damage reduction; Radiant Skin takes it noticeably higher, allowing the Singer to potentially do a bit of tanking while also hucking lots of grenades. If you use Sunbreakers, use Solar grenades, obvs. This is a really good kit. Dsc and Str are good. Use a Nerigal Savant III helm (until/unless you get a better Raid helm) so your grenades help super recharge faster and your melee charges off grenades. Sunbreakers will charge your grenades off melee, so they feed each other. Or can do a Justicar's Helm for similar bonuses and perks. High Str will allow you to Flame Shield a lot (HUGELY useful). This kit is a monster for area denial and room clear (strong in PvE). If you have Praxic Fire, go with Fusion grenades. Though not as good for area denial, this is the better build for sheer carnage, as you'll have quicker recharge of both grenades and melee while in Radiance. Generally the same helms help, and Str/Dsc are still big. I don't worry as much about Int as generally the super charges fairly quickly if you kill consistently. Having your melee recharge faster while in Radiance (when it does more damage) means you can really tank, since the Overshield and +Defense of Flame Shield do stack with the +Defense of Radiance/Radiant Skin. This is the mondo-scary Sunsinger PvP kit IMO. I don't like Gift of the Sun as it's so rare for both of the grenades to actually be charged. Even in Radiance it's not a big help. I'd rather have Angel of Light - I love the steady midair aiming and added point of Agi. If you're playing more a hit-and-run rather than tank-lite style, Viking Funeral and Touch of Flame actually work well together. If you have tougher teammates who are doing more frontline fighting, the DoT will help keep enemy shields from recharging (PvE or PvP). Just the basic DoT of Scorch isn't much though. Funeral is what makes it shine. Solar Wind's knockback can kill enemies (or players) if it hits them into a sold structure. That's all I got. Good hunting.

Fire born, Double Nade, Flame shield, and either increase radiant duration or scorch has chance to generate orbs. You want these on to spam nades as much as possible when you revive your self and you want to always hold on to your super in case the team is dead this same saved my fireteams on nightfall countless times, the only time you want to use it while you didn't die is if there are already orbs of light on the ground to gain the super back instantly after its over, because this means that your team needs orbs and you can spawn the most out of any one in the entire fireteam with sunsinger.. Flame shield because you don't have to kill an enemy to get the overshield just hit something and run away if you are in a jam. you should be using FUSION GRENADES they do the most damage and they have the greatest throw distance yet they are a bit harder to land but once you master them they are the best nades in the game. you want to have equal on Strength, Intellect, and Discipline. around 60% on each this ensures everything is on a low cool down, and when you pop radiance it will go even faster. When you get those kills while in radiance you spawn orbs of light galore just shoot and spam nades remember this is why you use fusion grenades you stick them, they take massive damage and get the those orbs out for your team..firebolt nades don't do as much damage, and solar nades enemies just walk out of it. If you can try and get a heart of the praxic for the raid, its by far the best piece of armor for a warlock in the raid, extra heavy ammo and even shorter cooldowns on the melee and nades while in radiance. Have fun being a god.

      • Mostly use Fireborn when my whole team dies or just in a really unlucky death encounter and need to revive and run. I run it with armor as the highest and fast grenade and supper reload and dont really worry about my punch but it comes in handy because it gives a 15 second fire shield which helps when running from mobs. I have been playing sunsinger since i hit level 15 and dont go back to voidwalker very often, its not even half way leveled up. you seem to be doing a good job with it so far. Not sure if agility might be better but i always think that the armor helps but some enemies can one shot regardless. i am currently level 27 with my armor

      • Song of Flame is mostly a huge waste unless you have a decent group and are vocal about it. If I'm with randoms and tell them I'm using my super so they'll have short CD's so throw those grendades.....I'm lucky to see 1 guy near me throw a grenade once. Radiant Skin is pretty nice, its a decent damage reduction allowing you to stand in the gunfire a lot longer to throw your grenades. It would be my go to choice if the other option wasnt... Fireborn. This skill is just amazing in pve. The only problem with it is that you'll tend to save your super just in case you happen to die, so you get less super usage. Using when I die is basically a judgement call. If I see a guy next to me or can easily get to me, I'll usually save it. If I'm in the raid (where there is a 30s cd before you can rez somebody) or off on my own or something, its invaluable to be able to pop right back up and be back in the fight. The other 2 options are both decent and helpful in raids/strikes/etc. But in my opinion they don't compare to being able to revive myself. If you are running fireborn, INT isn't as important, since you'll tend to stay on max super more often (at least I do, some sunsingers might use radiance every chance they get and just hope its up if they die) STR is pretty great with the flameshield skill. High STR means you can use your melee more often for that shield. It's saved my ass quite a few times. DIS is great for more grenades. Sunsinger is kind of the "grenade spamming subclass" so increasing that is pretty great.

I do INT and STR. Why INT? Because if i have fireborn on it goes back up faster, revive myself faster. It works the best in raid, nightfall, and pvp. Why STR? Because my melee can reduce the cooldown of my grenade, gives me more super and can generate orbs of light for my teammate. Also if im using a sunbreaker, being able to use my solar grenade all the time helps a lot. P.S. Having a fireborn is amazing and yes i only use it when im dead. But its clutch, saved my team and in a lot of trouble.

      • Most of the time I run two grenades, but I found that the Solar Grenade, Viking Funeral, and (I forget the name) all grenades ignite enemies make a good DPM build on your grenades. There really is no point to run the Radiance last longer perk if you're running Fireborn, so enemies burn longer is a really good choice

      • I role Firebolt Grenade, Focused Burst, Fireborn, Flame Shield, Arcane Spirit, Radiant Will, Divine Order, and Gift of the Sun. I find these perks are great for the Raid and Nightfall. If you get the Heart of the Praxic Fire with all that on you'll do so much work. I'd get DIS and STR up as much as possible if you can. That being said I do prefer Void Walker over Sunsinger in PvP, I find it more effective with Blink, Axion Bolts, and the Super. Just a matter of opinion though, you'll find what works for you.

I like to think of the Sunsinger like a Pyromancer from the Souls series. I use Solar Grenades paired with the Exotic Sunbreaker gauntlets (which boost the duration of the burn on Solar Grenades). I think of these as essentially hurling fire balls at enemies, to that end I use Gift of the Sun to gain an extra grenade. I use Fireborn for self res. You can either go with Radient Will to lengthen your super (allowing you to toss a handful of grenades) or Viking funeral which I prefer (causes enemies you ignite to burn longer and take more DOT) I prefer Flame shield to reduce incoming damage when I melee. Finally for stats I focus mostly on Recovery and Agility with a little Armor. Then use gear mostly focused on DIS and STR so I always have grenades and Scortch as often as I need them. A little INT is fine too but I find I mostly only use Radience when I die meaning its mostly always filled anyways. Hope that helps.

      • Resurrection for Raid/Nightfall/Weekly Heroic. Super Tough Radiance for everything else. I love having two grenades. With the Voidfang Vestments you get two lovely grenades every time you spawn in Crucible. Makes defending Control points a breeze.

      • Fireborn 2 grenades if you have it heart of praxic fire and kick on your super and you havw a bout a 10-13 grenade doucheage mode, throw in all grenades ignite enemies instead for extra doucheage but a few less grenades

        • Honestly, all the skills are so watered down its almost impossible to tell the difference when you change them around unless its one of the obvious effects. The only things I worry about are switching grenades for situational use. I always keep the resurrection perk and the two grenade perks up and I run with full speed since your going to die in a couple of hits no matter what your "toughness" rating is. I am working on a new character and honestly am not even choosing perks while they unlock since they are that pointless. Its like wearing armor........really is just a cosmetic thing in this game so if your a min/max type of guy this game is definitely not for you.

i like running with double sticky nade and gear and stats working towards faster melee and grenade energy. kinda synergy, where melee hits cooldown grenades very quickly (5 or so will about get you a grenade off cooldown) and you cant really go past self revive, even if used as a last resort its by far the most useful super for pve. pretty standard, but ill only use it for extra dps if i know i'll get another one up before a tight spot where i might need it in that last resort sense, where i promptly revive everyone and keep going. and as for toughness/recovery/agility i usually try and go for maximum recovery and agility 2nd. toughness doesnt seem to do much, so quicker health regen when you're in trouble and higher/faster jumps and general movement also with gear i cant say i really planned out the stats to build a certain way, i have what i was lucky enough to have drop and those are the stats. rather than say levelling up your rep with whoever to get the pieces of gear with the stats you wanted to stack up

          • For serious PVE I prefer Fireborn. If I am over leveled I would swap it to Song of flame, because its unlikely I will die at some point anyway. I prefer high DIS, moderate INT (90% of the time I am going to be sitting at max super anyway, why make it more?), low STR. I usually self res on any death, as almost always I will have my super back before dying again. If you are in an area where death matters, go with fireborn. It honestly is the highlight of not only the sub-class, but the warlock currently. In PVP I usually use radiant skin instead of fireborn. The self res animation takes a while and you can easily get shot down without the extra damage reduction.

            • Definitely want high DIS for them grenades. Sunsinger is definitely a grenadier. Pvp: radiant skin super, flame shield melee, arcane spirit, viking funeral, divine order, touch of flame. Pve: mostly the same, except fireborn for solo runs, or song of flame for team runs. I don't really like fireborn for team runs because I feel the super needs to be more beneficial at any time, not just a last resort.

Fusion grenades are a sun singers biggest asset (especially in PVP) but pve too. Max out discipline if you can as intellect only improves how fast your ulti recharges via no action (as in if you were afk) it doesnt increase the amount each kill adds back... so it really saves no time as kills are what charge 90% or more of it (PvP you might want a bit more balance though as all three are useful) Keep fireborn on but use your ulti to deal massive damage with fusion grenades, if things are getting tough save your ulti for a clutch or to KO a boss. I leave fireborn on even when doing easy things although I use my ulti when ever there are a large number of enemies I can't easily 1-2 hit with scout rifle such as yellows and shielded fellas. just spam those guys with grenades while floating around.

PvP Go Radiant Skin for defence buff. Radiance gives you bonus defence already but the more the merrier. I like to keep my Super around until I feel it's a good time to use it. Don't sit on it too long though because it can be wasteful to do so when it's so useful (it's no Arc Blade or Golden Gun though). I use it either when I'm surrounded, being cornered into a bad spot, or when I'm about to storm into a room and nuke the Zone with grenades and/or melee people. You can use your Super's defence buff to survive fights you wouldn't otherwise (Here you can see it helps me to survive a tripmine Grenade), and to one-hit KO most people with a melee (doesn't work every time though). I think Strength is also useful here since it will allow you to kill more people in one super use. --- PvE Go Fireborn to revive yourself. Especially useful (perhaps even OP) on Hard mode raids where teammate reviving is disabled. I'd recommend this. Or this if you like to cause damage over time with your burn talents I don't ever turn off Fireborn when I'm in PvE. Also Armour and Recover > Agility (IMO). In PvP you can't really go wrong with either of the 3 stats, take your pick. In PvE, avoid Intellect since you'll have a full super most of the time. Pick between Strength and Discipline depending on whether you like to get up close with your melee (strength) or stand back with a long range weapon and spam grenades (discipline). Edit: Also, play with what you're comfortable with. That said.... if you like to improve your game it never hurts to come out of your comfort zone and try new things. That's how you discover new tactics and tricks.
