Fusion Rifles - How do they Work?

So I still can't figure out these damned things. From what I can tell they fire out a quick burst of shots, the majority of which need to hit in order for a 1 shot kill making it akin to a midrange shotgun. What I don't understand is why I seemingly graze people all the damn time and rarely get kills while other people blow me away in 1 shot from miles away. What the hell am I doing wrong? I have 2 FRs I switch between (excluding my pocket infinity which I just finished getting the weapon power for) one with near-max impact, high range and decent stability and the other with slightly lower overall stats except for very high stability + range finder which should make it much more accurate than the other one. Neither gun seems to reliably kill in the Crucible. I'm pretty sure FRs are incapable of precision damage as tested by firing at enemy weak points (I get all white numbers on Sepiks Prime for example, even when hitting the center) so logically that means aim for center mass. I also push up on my stick to help mitigate the vertical recoil like with any gun, but still it doesn't work. What the hell am I doing wrong? Is it just god awful luck on my part?!

  • When I use FRs (77 Wizard is my first choice) I have trouble killing people who strafe to the side. Almost every time they are running straight or in mid air, I can easily 1 shot them. And FRs do more damage when aiming at weak spots (Like Sepiks Prime's Center) but the yellow precision damage numbers don't pop up. And if this doesn't help you, try out some FRs with high stability and see what you can do.

      • Unless you have great stability (Look at pocket infinty's stability perk for a reference) you might as well always hip-fire. Besides that, its getting used to drifting your weapon slightly ahead of your opponent and the charge times.
