Sword of crota and why it's important. *long*

Before you start reading this is NOT another post asking to have it put in as a heavy weapon :) but I mean....you could totally do that too. What this is *hopefully* is a post about how to improve destiny going forward. As we alllll know destiny has received mixed reviews. After reading a ton of them and logging a disgusting amount of time into this game I've clearly had my own positive and negative thoughts. This game has problems and I think at this point even the fans accept that. Lack of socialization, weak story, lack of in game lore...blah blah blah. The stuff has been said a million times. So I'll get to the point. For me I figured out the most disappointing part. The repetitive missions and strikes. In a game that on the pve side is about repeating the same content over and over this is, in my humble opinion, one of the biggest issues. It's made me cringe more than any other aspect of this game. I began to wonder why. It's not because of the grind. I've played just about every mmo to hit the scene for the last 10 years so I'm no stranger to that. It's not the basic game play. If anything that's the strongest part of game. The true issues is simple. Every darn misson and strike is the same thing. Go here, kill guys. Go here, 'defend' the imp. Go here, kill bullet boring bullet sponge boss. You never feel like you're doing anything new or engaging. So what does this have to do with the sword of crota misson? It's simple. It's the only misson I can think of that I played and absolutely loved for the mission itself. At first I figured it was because I got to swing a evil sword at a pile of hive dudes but I thought about it more and it hit me that this is the only misson I can think of that truly changes up the basic game play in a meaningful way. You get to do something new and unique to this game. Is it some leap of video gaming technology? Hell no, but it's fun and it pulls you in. I can't even begin to tell you how important that is in a game that is at its core about grinding. What if every mission and strike had something like that? turret sections, REAL defence sections, meaningful vehicle sections, timed escapes and of course more fun weapons. These are just few ideas I've had. Of course bosses with actual engaging and interesting mechanics would help a ton. Every boss in wow was at least a little different and end game. if you didn't know the fight you figured it out quick or died and that in and of it self was engaging. Anywho, I really hope going forward we see more missions with unique mechanics. Most of us are past the story. If it was amazing that would have been great but either way we all would be past it by now. At this point gearing up and the game play is what keeps us going. I think that adding new and interesting mechanics to both the missions and the strikes could do more to extend the life of this game than any other single act. Most people don't mind doing the same thing over and over as long as that thing is fun ;)
