Why I'm Still Here

Greetings Guardians After one-plus-something months since release and after having played for literally hundrends of hours I think it's time for me to, at last, sit down and give to anyone interested my two cents about Bungie's latest. First and foremost, I will try to focus every arguement on DESTINY's own merits, not comparing it to it's "father", Halo. Contrary to public opinion and no matter how popular it's become over the years, Halo's biggest achievement is not its mp. It's its world. A world filled with detail, information and which has its roots in a meticulously crafted mythology. It's a story-driven experience, a story-driven universe. This is not the case with DESTINY. DESTINY is an ip for the masses. Over the past few years it's become apparent that gaming's becoming a destination for various groups of people, with statistics moving mostly towards the human-to-human element. In simple words, most people like co-op, they like to compete and interact with each other. So, as like in most cases of games aimed at getting this aspect done right, story (NOT the lore, there is a huge difference) has taken a back sit. The ends do not justify the means and there's no way I can excuse the horrible script (as aperson who's read a book or a hundrend) but I understand that this is the bare-bones state of the game. Bungie got in bed with the devil (not worthy of a capital "D" Acti, sorry) and they might have lost a testicle in the transition but still managed to give us a very much functional game. For the time being, this is the state of affairs. So, this is still Forge by Halo's standards. It's still raw metal, being molded. They wanted to start generating income before it was 100% distilled, that much is apparent, but it is happening and it is happening right now. You, me, the devs: We are all part of the molding process. We are the smiths of this world, whether we are actually holding the hammer or by observing and providing productive feedback (a commodity rarer than a Mythoclast sadly). There are many things wrong with DESTINY at the moment, we can all agree on that. The RNG criteria are all over the place, the game is riddled with exploitable glitches, it's grind-rewarding and so on. I could throw in here a thousand suggestions that I suppose would make DESTINY better (don't reward the feeders in PvP, reward them in PvE so the Crucible will be an evenly contested ground. Found lvl 8 people in the Banner. A bloody disgrace) but this topic is not about that. My thoughts on the matter are clear, so here is the gist. I am still a Guardian for two reasons: (i) The entertainment that comes from playing with my clanmates paired with the gameplay and (ii) the potential. I can foresee new, interesting and worthwhile content in this universe and as time goes on the people who play DESTINY for what it is will be the people that stick to it. It will be the hardcore Iron Lords, the Raid perfectionists and the lore enthusiasts (take the last part with a bit of salt, since we've seen just a tiny bit of it to this day). If they manage to do SOMETHING to improve the script and dialogue it will be all for the better. If you have found yourselves wondering why you are still playing maybe you are a person after my own heart. Maybe we think alike, maybe we enjoy the same things. I don't believe that the people who made Marathon, Myth and of course Halo, a game that defined and refined a genre, got it SO wrong in some aspects. The Ahamkara eggs are still hatching. It will just take some time until we can see the dragons

  • The things that keeps me playing game are my goals that i want to archive in Destiny and poeple im playing with. First of my goal is to beat Fioth in PvP, (i know its hard) but he knows its comeing and his days of haveing 1st place at crusible are numbered! Other goal is to learn how to use Mashine Guns, since Cass point me out that im completely usless at it. Basically my knowleage of useing those heavy weapons are same as Her knowleage about Football! (none!). What i love the most about game is PvP! There is nothing more relaxing than shoot other poeple in their face with shotgun, or hear whineing Rick how Regime is OP, or how laggy he is, or how he kill someone but he didnt die, or any other of his reasons why he end it up last on the board with 0.8 K/D ratio :D And that lead us to the main thing WHY im still playing Destiny, wich is Community! Community! Community! There will be no day without waiting for Fioth and his famous '2sec', visiting Tower 20 times a day without reason cos of him or hearing him talking softly on the phone with his GF. There will be no day without Chris screaming out of nowhere to microphone so load that i drop already few times my controller on the floor cos he scare the shit out of me! There will be no day without Ricks Phoneix BASTA! - screaming every 5 min, cos his dog dont really give a shit about what he is saying anyway. Or his way to analyzed every single bullshit we say (like ur out of focus Rick) or when he pretend that he didnt hear anything. And ofc there will be no day without Prof who always is so serious with his politician voice of knowleage specially when his geting another 'Head' from Atheon! ;) All those small things always made my day and makes me enjoy Destiny even more, and im grateful to each and everyone one of you for it...even if im just a rude prick from Poland ;) Thank You!

    • Yeah, completely agree with you man. I 've been with Bungie since playing the first Halo on the original XBOX and and since I know what they are capable of I remain in Destiny for what is capable of becoming one day.
