There are grayed-out areas on each of the planet maps (even more than those mentioned in the attached video). I only just noticed them and I haven't heard anyone else talk about this yet. Not sure if this is a theory that already exists (I've looked, but couldn't find it on the internet).
Anyway these grayed out areas correlate to objects on the planets (three circular launch-pad pods are represented on the Earth map and the silhouette is the same as the pods visible in the Cosmodrome distance, for example), and it's my belief that just as the planets on the hub-map became interactive after progressing through the story, so to shall these grayed-out areas in the planet maps become open for missions, strikes, and perhaps even exploration. Here's a link to a blog that shows pictures of some of the locations: http://thefuturemachine.blogspot.com/2014/10/destiny-map-mystery.html
I think the compass on the map hub might one day actually be the way to travel to another section of the galaxy where there will be more planets to explore. So I doubt the game will ever become the completely free-roaming Skyrim-like game we'd imagined/hoped for. I think it will keep getting bigger and bigger, but traversal will be similar to how it currently functions, going into the map and selecting and then loading the next part of the planet. While it's not the direct point A to B massive world, it's still a pretty cool, interesting potentiality.
It's been noted by others that the "moon" I mentioned at one point in the video is actually the traveler (so I now see that).
What do you think? Could these symbols represent entire currently inaccessible sections of these planets? Might we be able to visit the meteor above Mars or the Traveler itself?
It seems pretty simple, like the future of the game might be staring us right in the face. Curious to hear other thoughts from people who similarly enjoy the game.
