Actually there is a black shader an all black shader you get from getting your dead orbit rank up passed rank 3. You have a chance to receive the shader called Superblack

I wish they just did what mass effect 3 did. Instead of shaders you can unlock patters and amount of colours, then just have a colour pallet where you can pick whatever colour you want. While they are at it they should add transmog so I can look however I want. Nothing makes me feel more detached from my character when I'm forced to be pink, or rock some stupid looking helmet because it has the best stats. But when players are given large amounts of freedom to customize their character they really start to feel like it's their journey. Transmog was the best thing WoW ever did. Maybe destiny will be the first game to actually give us all the freedom to truly customize our characters so they look and play exactly how we want them too. One can only hope.

Level up dead orbit you get black shader randomly, shaders aren't non existent they're just rarer then most exotics

Yeah there aren't very many cool shaders unless you like running around looking like the joker. I got the Blacksmith armor shader for pre ordering Advanced Warfare and it's by far the best shader I've seen. I don't know why the different factions don't offer shaders. A dead Orbit shader that would boost rep by a small percentage would be cool.
