Clan Alliance Explanation

Can anyone explain exactly what happens when your clan forms an alliance with another clan? I have a clan for New Zealanders with the max number of clan members. Just wondering what benefit there could be if I requested an alliance with any other New Zealand clans. Does it matter who initiates the alliance request? Does it simply mean that you can see each others clan page and write on their wall + plus see their member list? Or is there more to it than that?

It depends how you want to set up your clan. I have a clan of Aus/NZ members. It's kinda complex to explain. 1 sec EDIT: You can either set up a parent/main clan->subclan system or join a group of clans. Option 1 - Parent-> sunclan system. An example is my Aus/NZ clan Ardent Hawks - http://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Detail/404376 - Bungie caps members from the same platform at 75 for some reason, probably because it wants to keep a more socially involved experience for clan players. In this setup, you have a Main Clan (Ardent Hawks) that everyone joins (and so has access to the chat). But no one sets the main clan as the Playstation CLan or equivalent. What you do instead is join a subclan, a group set up to cater for the other members. What we did: Ardent Hawks - >100 members Subclan - Hawks Ascendant. Players set as 'Plastation clan' and get HAWK 4 letter clan tag up until cap of 75 where membership is closed. Subclan - Hawks Supremacy. Players set as 'Plastation clan' and get HAWK 4 letter clan tag up until cap of 75 where membership is closed. There is an option of ranking your subclans or putting them into regional/city blocks but imho that just gets super messy. Option 2: Makeshift alliances This has a similar structure to the Parent -> subclan structure above but without the conistent branding or consistent clantags (e.g. Hawks is consistent across all clantags and subclan/main clan naming). You have the option of all joining the Main or Parent clan but don't have to, it's just another forum to find other players rather than a more cohesive organisational hub. You join an alliance to get the 'backing' of the Main clan in helping you find members who can use your clan tag, again limited at 75 per platform. This is what Shadow Ravens Allaince etc. do to a large degree, although this isn't consistent across the board. Option 3: Too Big To Handle Essentially Option 3 is Option 1 and 2 combined. There is evidence of cohesive subclan structures and branding, but there are also other alliances with other clans with similar values whom you don't mind sharing members with. Membership of many different groups within these structures is quite common and record-keeping nigh-impossible for admins. A little bit of anarchy in every corner. At the moment pretty much the only option for the biggest clans in Destiny.
