Destiny: Become Legend (prologue)

Hey guys! I'm working on writing a series about Destiny and would like feedback on the prologue. Please no hate, just honest feedback is appreciated. Prologue: "All systems are operating smoothly." The console's gauges and displays shined brightly and indicated there would be a smooth and safe landing. There were three men sitting and waiting, eagerly. They were all nervous. Indication was one thing, executing was a different story. It isn't everyday you're the first men on Mars. "Landing gear and landing thrusters are green lit, 10 seconds till atmosphere break, 5, 4, 3, 2, and..." The spacecraft released the landing pod, and the pods reverse thrusters kicked in slowing their descent, they gripped their seats with white knuckles. "It's make or break people, fingers crossed and pray to Jesus!" Three people in the pod, but billions and billions watching from home. Countless eyes glued to every tv on earth. Every single person holding their breath, a team of techs watching, sweating and praying. The reverse thrusters kicked in and the descent slowed. The pod stabilized and settled onto the Martian surface with a thud. The people of earth cheered, the techs cheered, the astronauts finally exhaled. They had made the decision on who would be first down the ladder days prior. Not that it mattered; they would be the only ones to touch down on mars for years to come. Mark took a deep breath and clutched the latch that would open the door. As the door slid open he exhaled, they'd done it, they were really there. A vast red desert sprawled out before him. He climbed down the steps of the ladder and set the first man made foot print into the red dirt. "That's another small step for man, and an enormous leap for mankind." He said, through the broadcaster. The message was relayed back to earth, the gravity of the words sinking into the ears of all those watching and listening, and it would have been immortalized in history books, if it weren't for the discoveries that would come after. "Quit being so dramatic, and lets get going, I want to see as much as we can. There's storm coming." Quincy said as he joined mark in the dust. They checked and made sure there equipment was operational. Caleb was the last one down, he was cradling an automatic machine gun. "What's the gun for? There weren't any life forms detected on the thermoscans, no need to be overly cautious, man." Caleb pressed passed them, "Better safe now, than sorry later." The three walked in no particular direction, just scanning the landscape, climbing ridges and passing through valleys. Sand dunes rolled in a bright red, and waves of red sand crashed into fiery red rock. They walked for a few miles before deciding to climb up a plateau to get a good look at the landscape. What awaited them was jaw dropping, in the next valley just past the ridge. A giant sphere, a moon like object, sat suspended in the air. The three stood and stared, Mark was the first to speak, "What is it?" Quincy was already typing at his wrist display. "I'm getting some really strange readings... Almost like it's alive." Caleb thumbed the safety on his rifle and stepped forward, "How was it we didn't pick up anything with the thermoscan, if this things alive?" Quincy lowered his arm, and thought for a moment. "It, or something else could be blocking it's heat signature. I'm honestly not sure." After a bit of discussion, They all agreed that a peaceful approach would be best. Mark stepped forward towards the strange celestial being switching the suits radio coms to an external broadcaster. "Hello! We are humans from the planet earth, we come in peace! What is your business here?" Quincy's voice came over the radio, "Sir you are killing it with the clichés today" Then it spoke, in a voice that was neither booming nor quiet. It was a gentle voice and it was as if it spoke directly into there minds, as though it were their own thoughts. It made promises, and they believed those promises. It spoke, and now, Nothing would ever be the same again.
