DeeJ: There is a glaring disparity in the 10/03/14 Mailsack

Deej, On the question of "Destiny is so PVP heavy."Why can't the factions be opened up to PVE players?" in the 10-03-2014 Mailsack. Our concern isn't that we cannot gain Faction Rep from the PvE side. Everyone has known for a long time that you could. The isue of why the game is so PvP heavy is: "Why can't we purchase Faction equipment with Vanguard Marks as well as Crucible Marks?" The PvE lovers in Destiny are already gaining a ton of Rep with their chosen Factions (I myself am working on Dead Orbit rank 4), but most of the purely PvE fans cannot stand the Crucible. And that is where the issue resides. A person is forced to play in the Crucible in order to purchase Faction gear. For the people (like myself) who only want to run the PvE side, the competitive matchmaking is a distasteful, not-fun-at-all experience. We just don't like PvP. But in order to represent our Factions by wearing their equipment, we're forced to grind out matches in the Crucible (as my, and many other people's game history shows); which fosters the view that the game is much more focused on the PvP than any other aspect of the game. The Rep gains are easy to understand. The issue is that purely PvE Gamers are being forced into a section of the game that they find distasteful (PvP), in order to buy gear to represent their chosen Faction as they slaughter our enemies on the different planets. If the game is really meant to be equal on both sides of the coin, then make it so that the Faction vendors accept either Vanguard or Crucible Marks. Because that's where the real issue come from. ~Vampire Nox~ Edit = Besides, it's not like the Factions are PvP-centric. We have Patrol missions (a ton of them) for every one of the Factions. If I'm able to earn Rep towards my chosen Faction during Patrols, but those Patrols also award Vanguard Marks; why would those same Factions refuse to accept Vanguard Marks for their equipment as readily as they accept Crucible Marks? This needs to be fixed, Bungie. Having five out of seven Vendors locked behind Crucible Marks, is extremely biased towards the PvP side of the game. In my opinion, your Vendor list by currency should look like this: Vanguard Armory/Mentors: Vanguard Marks. (2 Vendors) Crucible Outfitter and Weapon dealer(?): Crucible Marks. (2 Vendors) Faction Vendors: Vanguard Marks and/or/mix Crucible Marks. (3 Vendors) This makes an even split for each side of the game, and both the PvP and PvE sides of the game have access to equal numbers of vendors. Also, the Marks should mix when visiting the Faction vendors. So as long as yout total Marks (Vanguard and Crucible) adds up to or greater than the cost of the equipment, then you can use Marks out of either category to pay for said equipment. This makes sense because the gear you buy isn't limmited to use only in the Crucible, or only in Patrol/PvE. Since you can use the equipment in both sides of the game, you should be able to buy the equipment with Marks from both sides of the game. Again; thank you for your valuable time, and I hope to see a quick resolution to this glaring issue. ~ Vampire Nox ~

      • I think the faction vendors should sell one set of their faction armor for vanguard marks, and another set for crucible marks. You should only be able to mix marks for weapons (to help overcome the fact they only sell 4).

      • I Can't wait until CoD: Advanced Warfare comes out so I can ditch this game forever. It seems like Bungie absolutely despises it players. It'll be funny when they starting begging on their hands and knees for gamers to give a damn about them again for Destiny 2 : ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

        • I completely agree, what the hell is with all the catering toward PVP? Why are all us PVEr's left out of so many faction rewards? Why does Bungie want to force us into PVP to obtain anything from all but a few vendors? Why even get rep from patrols and such? Crucible marks are the only currency they want anyway!

          • Right now, I'm almost exclusively PVP in this game because of the complete lack of story which fuels my love for PVE. Saying that, I agree with you. Bungie is catering way too much to the PVP side of the game making it just another Halo-like game that focuses on nerfing weapons rather than getting rid of the -blam!-ing invisible walls!!!

                • Because this isn't a pure pve game! I love pvp but I have to raid and strike, patrol, do bounties and gather materials because that's the game! What your asking is to be a 100% pver but if they allowed that I could never be a 100% pvper because if I wanted better than faction weapons I would still need to nightfall and raid! I would still have to do bounties in crucible and vanguard because without it the rep grind would be suckage! Oh and to lvl my gear I still have to pve gather! So in the end we all have to do both because this is a pve/pvp game

What nonsense, just wear your faction item whether it be butt capes, fetish arm rings, or cloaks and do strikes or regular bounties. Ta da cyka blyat predurra, you now have faction rep. Also why have different currency for different vendors? Idk have you ever been to another country vendor and use your home country money? Start thinking

                    • Maybe Activision is at fault. They sell millions of copies of Call Of Duty which is now heavily based on multi-player and even though they're different Halo was known for its great online multi-player. I'd like to see what you've wrote implemented as I mostly do PvE and hate having to ( not that I hate it ) go online to earn marks to purchase stuff. I've done ok doing PvE I'm level 28 and have legendary armor, purchased an exotic from Xur and had to buy my legendary auto rifle from my Faction guy after grinding away in the Crucible.

It always struck me as strange that they tie specific crucible modes to specific factions, but without any real explanation, benefit or unique reward. It's not like you get crucible rep AND faction rep for being good in that particular mode. Really, overall there are just way too many currencies in the game. Marks, Motes, Coins, Glimmer, Engrams, etc.... and there is not enough of an economy to justify them all. I mean seriously... If there are going to be so many currencies, they need to be more substantial. Example: -Marks universal to all Factions (including the 3 vanguard factions: Hunter, Warlock and Titan) -Glimmer universal to all Vendors -Motes Of Light no longer a currency, but an actual Upgrade Item (rather than tying Light to specific pieces of Armor which limits Customization and Uniqueness) -Strange Coins for all intergalactic commerce (which means there should be more than just Xur, put Agents of the Nine on random planets with totally unique inventory at various times of the month, and at a Higher Price. Include The Speaker in this category, as he sells Blessed Items of Galactic Origins)

                          • The reason why PvE players like myself dislike PvP is the following: 1) Lack of big maps like a good old fashioned "Sidewinder" or "Blood Gultch" 2) Everyone and their mom, brother, sister and dad can camp with Ice Breaker. 3) Auto rifles are way over powered. - my SUROS hits harder then my Vision of Confluence, what the . . . 4) Auto rifles are way over powered! The crucible can be patched and fixed but it has major issues as designed today. I'm a huge fan of objective type PvP games like the old halo capture the flag days and also invasion. I'd also like some high level PvE / PvP areas opened where people can go farm legendary engrams from level 34 creatures and also have the risk of a jerk dropping in and killing the whole party. Other MMO's have this, why not make Pluto a free for all!

                          • Speaking of pvp, it would be more enjoyable if you took off that bleeping active radar and set it to when firing only, really tired of the bleeping pre shots based on radar activity and knowing I'm around a wall before I appear. Tired of the who's gunna strafe out from the wall farther this time left right, left right, left right. Bloody shadow casters.

                          • I believe they should simply let Vanguard Marks be used for them as well. I like PvP for leisure... I don't enjoy being forced into it.

                          • It is an odd design decision to make all the faction vendors take only Crucible marks and not Vanguard marks even though a player earns rep with them by doing both Vanguard and Crucible activities. It's at best inconsistent, at worst a deliberate decision to make Crucible marks a more versatile currency (more gear options to spend them on). I think it's worth noting the vast majority of players I've polled with the question "PvE, PvP, or Both" identified as "Both" by a substantial margin (roughly 85%). What was more significant about my poll results was that not even 1% identified as a "PvP only" player. This reflects a community in which "PvE only" is a small minority, and "PvP only" is virtually a non factor. Hence, no matter how dumb the design is, the incentive to make changes that will only improve the game experience for roughly 15% of the player base is unlikely. Doubly so in the face of blatant issues that we can all generally agree should be implemented (voice chat options, an actual story, etc.). Destiny as it is presently is just designed for players who play both competitive and cooperative game modes.
