DLC Can't Wait Until December If Destiny is to Survive

I've been sitting here thinking about my last few days in Destiny and it hit me, yesterday was reset Tuesday. In less than six hours I had 100 Vanguard Marks. I had done the Heroic Daily and Weekly. Nightfall had been attempted but we fell short and will try again later in the week. At 10pm last night i was trying to launch my new rare Sparrow off of rocks to perform flips. I had run out of meaningful things to do. To preface: Most of my friends are not high enough yet to attempt the VoG and I do not want to go with players whose playstyles I am unfamiliar with. The daily bounties have grown stale, the desire to get yet another 200 Fallen headshots for the Queen is simply not there. I am getting bored, quickly. I will make the very occassional jaunt into the Crucible for some abuse but apart from exploring and finding the two missing Golden Chests and some dead ghosts, I don't have much to play for. Destiny needs more content. Argue over the lack of depth to the story or whatever you want to do but Destiny is starting to lose its grip on my attention. I have Diablo III on the shelf and it is calling my name. Borderlands is about to drop for 360. New Assassin's Creed games are on the way. Super Smash Bros for my 3DS hits Friday. I am not sure that Destiny's player base will survive November. (Edit: I mean survive in a way that allows Activision to meet its profit projections and continue 10 years of support for the IP long term) The single best way for Destiny to hold its players would be to get the first Expansion out at the same time as MMC and not wait for a month to go by.

  • To drop new content at the sametime as COD would be a dumb move. Nothing can compete the release of COD and i dont even play it. Its best them to wait until the buzz dies down. After a month then drop ur own stuff. Sometimes competing is NOT the best thing to do.

  • I'm not paying $25 for dlc that should've been in the game. I payed $60 and got $20 worth of content. They want to try and fix this then they need to release the first 2 DLC's for free and you're right the first one should come out within a month or else this game won't last

  • It can and will. November will only bring a new CoD that many players will also play. There will still be plenty who play Destiny or both. The game has been out for not even a full month. Relax, play something else, and be patient.

  • Not everyone has as much free time as you. Take a break if you feel worn out by the game.

(Edit: I mean survive in a way that allows Activision to meet its profit projections and continue 10 years of support for the IP long term) [/quote] The player base will survive and you will continue to play and we all know it. The people threatening the forums saying this game will not last or survive is too funny, if anything the player base is continuing to grow. Patience, content will come and if Destiny is becoming stale than yes go play some other games, you will come back. Why not try this if you are so bored, collect 200-300 of each resource so when future content comes out you will be stocked up.

I totally agree Destiny gets old fast. Although Bungie didn't come close to fulfilling expectations, and the initial story is lacking, people will continue to play. Bungie provides JUST enough incentive to keep ppl coming back. Wether it's that piece of legendary gear or that exotic gun your...Bungie keeps us chasing that little piece of satisfaction meanwhile putting up with repetitive but good gameplay. It's so FRUSTRATING because I see the potential of Destiny but it's LACKING so much!! This game could have and should have been amazing. Someone at corporate screwed up the budget and now they are trying to maximize profit by finagling ways to turn a $60 game to a $100+. The strategy is to give us crumbs of content at a time in order to keep us coming back, and it's working so far. It's such a shame. I thought Bungie was really big on artistic integrity. Maybe it's Activision's fault. But the bottomline is DESTINY is a commercial success but an ARTISTIC FAILURE. *sigh*

        • Sir, since release you have played about 4-5 hours a day on average based on your played time. I humbly submit that you have more time to play than many gamers and thus your views of this game and it's repetitiveness are skewed.

          • Then again, shipping a rushed, incomplete DLC that's poor value for the money would probably upset even more players. If Bungie's taking the long view, they may well stagger DLC and count on people taking breaks, then coming back for a month or so when new stuff is released. Sizeable, well-made add-ons that try to address early fan feedback could help turn the complaints around and convince people to keep the base game and pick it up again later on.

I agree Destiny does need more content, very badly! I wouldn't expect much from the DLCs though, sadly! The full game gave maybe 3 weeks of content and the DLCs will give a day or two. Like I've said before, Bungie has our money and doesn't really care what we want now.

            • Technically we all already have the DLCs on our disks. People will be paying for the unlock code in December. That is why people were able to bug into the locked sections of the game.

            • Of course destiny not gonna survive, there are about three or four big games coming out soon, so not much people gonna be a destiny anymore.

            • It lost my attention completely after I picked up my exotic bounty today, so I leveled up a little COD and some Madden 15, most of my friends have moved on too. So that makes it even more boring

            • Bungie is relying on PvP to keep things alive. Unfortunately Storgy Gamers; such as myself, do not appreciate Bungie's efforts to push everyone to PvP. Screwing Story Gamers by giving us lame ass Exotic Bounties that require PvP play??? Come on that is just laziness on your part, Bungie.

              • Push your friends to level up because honestly coming from a lev 29 player the VAULT is the only thing I enjoy at this point I am however excited for iron banner but mainly just to see rewards and any new stuff not to mention I'm higher level than majority of players and will probably dominate if I'm taking less damage from any lower level people.

No school , work family friends ? Maybe that's why I'm not bored with it yet because I'm still trying to get legendary gear and upgrades..... I wish I had the time....

                  • I'm pretty sure the phrase "good enough" perfectly describes Destiny, as well as the mindsets of Bungie during the game's development. In case that was unclear, I completely agree with you that Destiny lacks good content.

                  • So you failed at the nightfall, have no raid gear and say there is nothing to do? Am I missing something here? I did the same thing on Tuesday, nightfall, raid, all bounties for PVE, daily and maxed out my vanguard marks on Thursday. So now I'm working on my alt so I can run all events twice, more so the raid for raid gear. Also I'm levelling up armor sets for my alt but grinding out shards and other items. I guess some people can't find the fun in the game. The raid is hands down the best gaming experience I've had in a long long time. Go master it.
