1. The Night I Grew Silent

Once again I found myself surrounded by a field of red and white, and I felt as if I was gaining in skill. While I walked through the bodies back to my ship so I could return to the Tower to collect my Bounty's reward, I noticed something. Something I doubt many others had noticed. They had all seen it. They just never gave a thought to it. Because it would break their hearts. There, among the hordes of headless bodies that formed a red and white sea at my feet, lay a child. A Fallen child. And she was laying next to two bodies of which I can only assume to have been her parents. The two Fallen bodies touched at the hands with one set of arms, reaching for their child with their others. And I couldn't do more than stand there, speechless, as cold tears hit the ground between them. This is my fault, I thought, I am responsible for this. What cause could be so great to be worth this child's future? The child looked up at me, her face tear-stained though it had only been minutes since her parents' deaths, and she rushed for her mother's gun. She was quick to learn how it worked, and took aim at the empty figure in front of her. But she could not bring herself to pull the trigger. With an echoing clatter that shattered the deafening silence, she dropped it and ran to me, clinging to my cold, metal skin. I looked down at her as she cried into my robes and I didn't know what to do. So we stood there. For seven nights. Finally, she whispered to me that she was hungry. I nodded, understanding that what I had done had made her my responsibility now. And we silently walked off towards the twilight. So that was the first fan-fiction I created ever. I don't know why I wrote it. It was originally focussing on my observation of the Fallen bodies holding their chests and how seeing them that way makes them appear much less evil and reveals that they too are like us, fearing and fighting for their lives. EDIT: This is a rough draft and does not need criticism. I appreciate any positive feedback. Thank you for reading! Here's the continuation: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/71125957/0/0
