On The Destiny Battlefield

On The Destiny Battlefield I wanted to see if we could contribute some positive ideas on how to make Destiny a game that we all want to player for the next coming years. For my contributing idea I would like to propose a larger scale multiplayer type of game. The idea is to mix two game that I enjoy quite a bit. I love the look, sci-fi settings and characters of Destiny but really enjoy the larger multiplayer gameplay of Battlefield. The things I really enjoy from Battlefield is the ability to play different sides, play either as the bad guys or good guys. The other thing I really like it that there are destructible environments, this has a huge impact on gameplay over the course of a map. The other thing that I find very fun about Battlefield is the large amount of players on the map. I find the chaos a bit more fun and for a player like me, I die quite a bit so it lets me enjoy the game a bit more. The last really big thing I enjoy about Battlefield are the vehicles. So I’m imagining a scenario where you can go on a large map and play as either a guardian, the Fallen, the Hive, Vex or the Cabal. There would be drop ships for all groups, tank types, land speeders (sparrow) equipped with weapons, hover vehicles (heli), and jet types equipped with weapons (guardian ships). The matches would be fought for control over land masses on the different planets. Imagine a planet by planet tug of war game where evil either progresses forward toward Earth or the Guardians repel the forces of darkness further and further into the recesses of space. I also really like the idea that if you played as any of the evil classes that you could actually even play the role of one of the leadership for that class. (Becoming a playable boss character at that point) Idea, you could reserve this option for whoever has the highest stats for that map session. I also like the thought that you could possibly pick up enemy weapons after they have been defeated and use them as well. Other larger ideas for this playing scenario would be that these matches could run every hour on the hour, and at any time from multiple devices you could see the progression of the Destiny universe as far as who is progressing forward or being held back. You could also set up platoons with your friends. There could be opportunities for larger roles like a general who views the match from a much higher level and sets spawn points for your side so you can plug holes or hold fronts during combat. A general could also order air strikes and deploy drop ship missions. I could see drop ship missions being important as well, were you need a skilled pilot and enough manpower to man the artillery for the ship so it doesn’t get shot down by ground forces. You could even have a single player modifier that ties into the multiplayer matches that are continuously raging in, to where it could make you or your enemies more powerful for that are depending on who has control of that part of the map/world at the time. And if your actions on the single player missions could contribute to overall stats for the larger multiplayer battle that is going on. So here is a framework for a suggestion, I would love to hear your thoughts as well. Would you like to see this type of game? And if so, what could be added to make it more of what you are looking for?

  • This is a really interesting idea for a game type. I think you'll find that many of the people who have posted in the "Attempt at Construction" thread share your sentiments and some even share your ideas (great minds think alike and all that). I think this level of tactical combat would be a massive undertaking for Bungie, but every game would create interesting, memorable experiences for the player. I hope that these are the kinds of threads that Bungie is looking at

    • Great article, great ideas. After reading the last 50 rants of depressed people spewing their various Destiny conspiracy theories, it's refreshing to read a well thought out post of good suggestions. I would love destructible environments like in Battlefield or even play as the bad guys. Won't happen, I'm ok with that, and I love the game how it is.

    • Nice. An all out war is always epic. I would suggest a 6 man horde mode game type. However instead of just surviving waves after waves of enemies, there will be other objectives that's similar to the raid. Maybe oracles will appear, two players must transport a heavy package to the designated spot to detonate. Competing this objective will net bonus xp/ascendant materials/various currency.

    • Nice ideas. I think there server issues would prevent such at the moment. Hopefully they can work them out and look towards more expansive maps/worlds

    • Easy, just use the ships as air vehicles triple the map size and raise the cap. Destinyfield 10/10 would buy
